The design for this gem is available when the crafter is Friendly with The Scales of Sand. It is the epic version of Solid Star of Elune (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24033)

The gem, Empyrean Sapphire (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32228,) is attained by trash mobs in Black Temple.

It is currently the game's best gem for tanks.

All BT epic gem drops also drop inside CoT:Battle for Mount Hyjal now. Also, after a sector of the instance is cleared special mining nodes spawn along the way to the next area which often contain these epic gems.

Alternative for this gem is Eye of the Sea which is BoE and can be bought from AH. It's unique-equipped however, so you can have only one.

It can be obtain through fishing daily quest. You also need to be a bit lucky since proc rate is 1% according to wowhead data (but I had it procced 3 times in one month, so I am not sure if 1% info is correct).

As progression continues, I expect to see these gems drop in price. They all have pretty high drop rates off of black temple trash.

no, its not a good deal.

however if you are running BT you should be getting these gems as drops, not purchases, and be giving these to your JC to cut for your raiders, to include your tanks. these really have no business being on the AH until you've cleared BT so many times all your raiders have their new gear and have gemmed up all their gear with the gems that drop in BT.

If it's on AH at all it's probably some GM needing some cash ;p

these things probably cost serious raiders dragon kill points... not money. And if that extra bit of health stopped them dying from a crushing blow it was useful! Once you get gear you won't replace (until the expansion) you want the best of everything

my friend was quitting wow and he was on Maghterdion Eu..
They sell theese for 300g on ah there so i made an alt lvl him to 10 used the 3k g my friend gave me on theese and swoop back to my old server (where theese newer will come on ah) atleast not before the patch

To address the order of people getting these gems....i dont see a healer getting them...i know that our healers in in gruul/mags/ZA/Kara get 1 shotted if they pull aggro anyways, so the only way this gem would benefit a healer would be from fights that involve aoe damage done to the raid.

that doesnt happen enough to justify swapping out a +healing/mp5 gem for extra stamina.

i know our healers certainly do not die often enough to need gems like these, i would say tanks then dps and lastly healers.

i dont have any BT's under my belt so i could be speaking from inexperience but i have been playing this game for ~4.5 years (and yes that is possible if you include beta).
