This Proc is fairly reliable and works great agains Shadow Priests Fire Mages and other Warlocks. I have also seen this proc off of campfires. This talent is a must for a heavy destruction pvper.

This definately can save you against nuke if it procs, then you can laugh at your opponent because he has burned all his cool downs :D

This talent is absolutely amazing, speaking from a mage point of view, no spell is more annoying than this. One main factor to a mage is their burst dps :) and if i hit you with a fireball it procs and my scorch + fireblast combo dont hit you, you just saved yourself from at least 1k damage. This spell is a must, it allows you to eat shadow priests, warlocks, and fire mages ( frost mages dont cast a firespell too often after fireblast). Amazing passive talent, and trust me :) for the oponent it seems alot longer than 4 seconds.

This talent is quite nice in PvP, as people have described.

But it does have limited uses in raiding. The only fight I have seen it be useful on is Vaelstrasz in BWL (and maybe Firemaw, but I have yet to fight him with this talent). It can proc off of his fire nova, and when it does it will make you immune to the next fire nova. Nether Protection doesn't proc while you already have it up. It will reduce the damage taken by his fire nova by approximately 23% of what you have without the talent. (For an explanation, see bottom.)

This is a very large amount if you haven't been killing Vael for long, and enables you to wear less fire resist to gain more DPS. I would recommend it for any Destro spec'ed warlock in a early BWL guild. Otherwise, probably better to put the points in Emberstorm.

(Here is why:
Let a equal to the chance to to gain immunity from the n'th fire nova. Clearly,
a = .3
Then for the n'th element you gain nether protextion 30% of the time if you didn't just receive nether protection from the last fire nova. Which is:
a = (1 - a) * .3
This sequence converges to 3/13, or approximately 23%.)

You can definitely notice when fighting a warlock with this talent. He will go immune to all fire and shadow spells that you throw at him during it. It stinks to fight against one warlock like this, but imagine being the warlock, it must rock!

This does proc off campfires and braziers and such. You can drop a campfire and sit on it and watch it proc.
My question is.. will hellfire proc this? Is your own hellfire dmg considered fire dmg?

This has been recently changed so that enviroment items like campfires and braziers will no longer proc Nether Protection.

I dont think I have noticed this proc from hellfire, I will have to test this tonight. Also I do not believe this will proc from lava either, but again, I'm not 100% on that.

does anyone know if ALL damage from these classes does it, or initial damage. Like when a dot is first applied versus proccing off a dot?

does anyone know if this is procced by non dmg spell? such as fear, curse? those are shadow spells.

I seriously have to say this is a worthless talent. Being a shadow priest i have really enjoyed fighting the destruction warlock, since he/she will be easy to kill. simply put, destruction locks are easy because: 1. i can dispel their nether protection proc 2. i have a 20% chance to resist stun 3. i have 115 shadow resist 4. i have silence, fear, and stun procs 5. i have a shield, healing abilities, oh and way more dps than they could ever put out.

this talent can be effective on a nub, but unfortunately useless against a player like me.

If you are raiding and are the Warlock tank, this can cause issues.

On Leo in SSC this doesn't proc, however on Caperian (Kael's buddy) and Ilidan this will proc, making the boss attack someone else until this buff is off. You can use a /cancelaura Nether Proctection macro, but it isn't foolproof.

For it's usefulness, it is good on Illihoof and Teron Gorefiend, and invaluable in PvP.

Since the nether protection is magic it can be dispelled by a shadowpriest because Dispel magic is a discipline spell, not shadow.

It makes me laugh when Warlocks try out Destruction and they say it has no survivability...so I ask them:

"Did you put points into Nether Protection?"

"...no."

"Now there's your problem."

Burning Crusade Classic - this does NOT activate from your own Hellfire. Hellfire will never trigger Nether Protection by itself.
