Another hearthstone item? Sweet! Likely shares the CD with the normal hearthstone though, just like Ruby Slippers. *edit* yep, comment on the spell page confirms it's from the TCG, so the chance/cost to get this will be rather low/high... :/

Facts:

Functions as a hearthstone but with more expansive graphics.
Shares hearthstone cooldown (30 min.) effectively replacing hearthstone.
Character uses an Ethereal gate as used by the Consortium faction when hearthing.
Sets to current hearth location when received and location can be changed by any Innkeeper.
Useable at any level and therefore available for twinks.

Rarity: 1/121 booster packs (speculative)

How much would I expect to pay for one off eBay or similar?
According to http://www.wowtcgloot.com/ethereal_portal.htm (most information sourced from there), the Icecrown expansion released on the 14th of September 2010 and the set loots are Wooly White Rhino, Ethereal Portal, and Paint Bomb. Current price is around $40 to $50 USD.

It has a neat sound. The portal does not persist after hearthing but the effect goes up instantly when you start casting, and goes away when the cast is cancelled. You can still bubble hearth with the Ethereal Portal. There is a different cast animation with the Ethereal Portal. The size of the portal you create scales with character size (i.e., ogre costume = huge portal, using the portal while tiny = small portal).

Hey! Another tip for getting that Portal extra huge!

Mount on a mammoth and then use the portal. It will be absolutely huge! Im a draenei and I popped an elixir of giant growth and did this trick and the portal was as tall as 5 toons stacked on top of each other!

I picked up this item today and it's pretty awesome.

To clear up any misconceptions, it is affected by the guild perk 'Hasty Hearth.' The tooltip is not updated though, so it will still say 30 minutes. Also, there is another bug in which it does not tell you how long it is on cooldown.

It's a lot cooler than you'd think at first. Worth every penny :)

One annoying thing is that the crackly sound that plays in place of the normal hearthstone sound doesn't cut out if you cancel the hearth partway through. You can wind up overlaying the sound multiple times which makes an unpleasant din :P
