It appears these are going to be used to upgrade iLVL 378 Valor Point gear into an iLVL 391 heroic version as recent datamining shows 391 versions of VP gear. The firestone only drops from the heroic bosses.

What this means:

Most if not ALL VP gear will be your BiS gear excluding Heroic Rag drops. Since Firelands is only 7 bosses, this means a smaller loot table. So the iLVL 391 version of say the VP bracers is more than likely the BiS. My guess is the gear from VP is your only source for that particular item for this tier i.e. Wands, Bracers, Rings, Necks and that the remaining slots are spread out among the Firelands bosses.

This could all change but overall I like this change as it also means 391 iLVL relics!

Correct and wrong.

This item really drops from Heroic modes only but it has nothing to do with legendary. You will use this to upgrade your 378 ilvl item to 391 ilvl item (my previous guess was almost correct :oP).

And for those who wonder - "shards" for completing legandary are Seething Cinder.

Yay, Blizzard finally listened and gave us heroic relics. I had posted about this a while ago on the official Dungeons and Raids forum and they finally delivered.

Confirmed, only drops from heroic Firelands bosses and is used to upgrade your thrown/relic/wand and BoE trash epics to their heroic versions.

GM response from ticket said they are currently aware that there is an issue with the Crystallized Firestone drop rate. Take it for what you will.

Okay, uh, since nobody on this page seems to understand how Wowhead works...

Those drop rates listed? Those include every single NORMAL MODE run that has been done on those bosses so far. Obviously, since Crystallized Firestone does not drop in Normal, these drop percentages are going to be terribly skewed. Instead of being, say, 50/200 heroic runs drops a Firestone, it's 50/200 heroic + 2000 normal, which would drop the chance from 25% to a mere .03%.

Go look at the Heroic drops for each of these bosses. Those pages show the CORRECT drop rate, which is probably about 10% (some bosses have 12%, some bosses have 7%, but we haven't had enough drops to normalize it yet.)

Anyway, the droprate on these is relatively reasonable. Given that Raggy's droprate is probably higher, you should get basically 2 drops per three runs. A little low, but I'm sure it'll go up in the future.

But seeing as each person only needs 3-4 of these, they should be able to get most if not all by the time they've got the rest of their gear.

As of Todays Hotfix (16th of August)(Not a Patch) they are Now including this item in the *Grab-Bag* List on HC (Heroic if you dont know what that means) >.>

So instead of getting a random Weapon you can get this instead.

*Grab-Bag* is what blizzard refers to as the shared boss loot.

It does feel like the nerf increased the drop rate for this to me.

We had i think 4 drops out of 26 heroic kills pre-nerf as compared to 3 out of 6 heroic kills yesterday (2 from the same boss).

My guild has seen 1 drop so far, after 25 heroic kills.

Adding the Crystallized Firestones was a good idea! It seemed to me they were trying to add more universal loot drops, like a kind of "intelligent loot drop" system. Perhaps especially 10mans who often only have one or two people with same gear preference would have benefited from this. (At least my guild end up sharding a lot of stuff even though we are far from completely geared.)

But the drop chance on these is really not good enough to complete this task. Our guild has done 25 heroic kills in Firelands. We've seen one Crystallized Firestone drop (which I got to upgrade my crossbow). That makes it a 4 % drop chance for my guild, and haven't really helped with gearing.

In Firelands we keep getting the same drops every week. Ragnaros (normal) drops the caster staff and the strength trinket every week! EVERYONE has it for mainspec, offspec and third spec. While Fandral's Flamescythe only dropped one time, and of course in the raid when our feral druid wasn't there. And Shannox's scalp? Still attached to his head apparently.

I really hope the 4.3-equivalent of Crystallized Firestone will have a better drop chance.

On the same note, I wish they'd make tier tokens available for all classes instead of divided into three tiers. I think they were in tier 9 (Trial of the Crusader). Our guild seems to keep getting the DK/druid/mage/rogue-tokens dropped, while the other two tokens hardly ever drop. Not sure why they changed it back from tier 9, I think the "one size fits all"-approach was really good.
