As an unholy dk this part should actually be very easy, provided you have the right spec and are willing to invest a bit for a resistance set.

First buy Icebane Chestguard, Icebane Girdle and Icebane Treads, altogether this should leave you with about 287 frost resistance, feel free to gem them with whatever you please, but remember it WILL be a dps loss equipping these as they are purely for survivability.

Next make sure there is a paladin or shaman in the raid who throws down frost resistance totem/aura.
This combined with your resist set should get you to the frost resist cap, giving you a fair chance to COMPLETELY RESIST her breath attack or reduce the damage done by it by 75% if it hits you.
This should bring the breath damage down to roughly 9500-10900.

Now the final step is speccing for Magic Suppression.

When Sindragosa is about to launch her frost breath attack, hit Anti-Magic Shell and dive in front of it, this will absorb all magic damage done to you up to a cap 50% of your maximum health.
Now, even if you only have 22k health (which you shouldn't, tier 9-10 should get you at least 25-27k) this will still be enough to absorb the entire attack, allowing your healers to not have to worry about healing you/shielding you through the breath during this quest at all.

Now simply rinse and repeat until done. This may be overkill (completely preventing it rather than simply mitigating it to a safe level) your healers will thank you, as you will be taking 75% LESS DAMAGE AT ALL TIMES from her frost aura and frost bomb attacks, as well as being able to spec into Anti-Magic Zone to increase the survivability of your raid.

Now you will experience a dps loss from not equipping your proper chest, leggings and boots (and from having a less than optimal spec, but the difference from that is minute) but you will just have to convince your guild to let you drop dps by a couple of hundred (depending on gear) just for that fight, and remind them that once you have Shadowmourne, your dps will sky rocket.

P.S. From thinking about this, it occurred to me that I had completely forgotten about bone armour, if your're looking for a higher dps (and cheaper you sneaky sneak you) way of doing this, you could instead ask a priest to bubble you, using Bone Shield for minus 20% damage, Anti-Magic Shell for absorbing at least 12-14k damage depending on your health (speccing for Magic Suppression is still mandatory).
According to my calculations, if your have at least 24k health raid buffed, you should survive the breath, even without PW:S or Frost Presence, and you will still have AM-Z in case of emergency, but you never know when a boss if going to crit,or when you can't get all your abilities up for the breath, so if your going to use this method its best to use as many mitigation abilities as possible.

Retribution Paladins trying this tactic will obviously run in to a little bit of trouble from not having Anti-Magic Shell, or Frost Presence, so they will have to make do with whatever abilities they can pull together, as will warriors.
Paladins and Warriors will NEED to use Tactic 1, simply because the frost resistance mitigation is all they can rely on.
Paladins can use Divine Protection for 1 or 2 of the breaths, but warriors will have to use any magic absorption pots or spells and shields they can get from the raid, as will paladins when Divine Protection is on cooldown.

P.S.S. Upon proof reading this, I realised that the frost resistance set will reduce a LOT more magic damage than I thought it would, and so long as you don't suffer any spike damage afterwards (and try to use Defensive Abilities when Possible) it should be fairly easy, rendering this whole guide pretty over the top.

Ah well, had fun writing it, and at least unholy knights can be all "Hur Hur Hur I dont take any damage from that raid boss's nuke and it almost killed our tank Hur Hur Hur" :)

With the availeble cd's like pain suppression, priest wings, shields, hand of sacrifice, class specific cd's this should be very easy. Topping off one person wont rape healers mana. as UH dk it might actually be good to stand there to fill RP:p.

Of the 3 infusion quests, this looks to be the one that you'll have to make sure everyone knows you're trying to accomplish before you even pug up.
I'm thinking that maybe if you, and perhaps multiple others are trying to finish this quest all at once, a normally sub-optimal raid makeup would be best. (more healers and less DPS than normal?)
My thinking is..... you aren't going to want more than 2 people getting blasted by breaths at any given time. With less DPS and more healing, the battle will take longer for sure, but more breaths will pop off too!
Say 10 breaths occur in this slow bleed meathod and you have 3 people all trying to complete this quest. You'll only have 2 hairy situations where you'll have 2 people getting intentionally breathed on purpose.
toon 1 gets hit by breaths 1234, toon 2 getting hit by 4567, and toon 3 getting hit by78910. 4 and 7 being the only healing intensive breaths. Then once all 3 have the quest completed, all the overkill healers can switch to doing DPS to finish the job.

The Shadowmorne questline may be much more difficult than it looks on paper and having 3 people on any given part at the same time may be an extreme rarity. I hope not, but only time will tell.

PS, being an (Orc) Axemaster BS and not getting ANY love at all in WoTLK, it would have been sweet to craft the "little brother" to Shadowmorne that everyone would have to buy off me..

So DKs have the advantage over paladins and warriors on this quest? Considering how many DKs there are, This could, or could not be a blessing to healers. The extra protection is nice but it seems Warriors and Pallys put out more damage overall than DKs do so the healers would have to heal for alot longer than normal.

Edit: What about Mark of the Wild? How far would that actually go towards helping with frost resistance?

Unless you have to survive 4 of those attack IN A ROW, we will be fine. 33k raid buffed at the moment, so I imagine ~35k hp on my dps DK. And if this isn't good, get yourself a tanking gear, 50k would be more than enough. And don't forget about all "oh sh.." cooldowns other characters have (pain suppression, sacrifice, holy priest angel e t.c).

Imo, biggest pain in this quest will be gathering 60 shards, and it would take us at least a few month to do...

Luckily, I'm a paladin with retribution as main spec and protection as off spec. I have gathered quite a nice collection of tanking gear to help out the guild when needed. Looks like I may have to gear and spec for tanking to help surviving the frost breaths from Sindragosa. Lots of stamina, some frost resistance, some cooldowns to increase survival and some healing from the healers should do the trick.

Doing the above should mitigate a TON of the frost damage, however you can also:

►Use Glyph of Salv https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=45747 on a breath, possibly two, read below.
►Use Divine protection, NOT Divine shield to cut one of the breaths in half.
►Use a Mighty Frost resist potion. https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40215 on another breath.

You may also want to consider an external cooldown of any type (sacrifice from another pally, priest cheat death thing, etc) for the fourth breath. It may be possible to use Glyph of Salv twice if you use that as your first cooldown providing there is 2 minutes time between the 1st and 4th breath.

For the https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40215 you can use that before the fight starts and again during the encounter. Same with any other encounter.
The https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=43582 is also adds a fair amount of frost resistance if you really want to stack up.

As an ICC/ToGC geared arms warrior, I'm sitting around 35k life raid buffed. Warriors should take these measures to be safe. Aside from the obvious need for resistance, it's also possible to have a holy paladin use Aura Mastery with frost resistance aura up or Shield Wall with the Shadow's Edge and a shield on if you're fury.

As stated by ewhenn, either spec or any class, you should still wear frost resist gear to be safe on top of potions and flasks.

As a Fury Warrior, wouldn't it be easier to be in tank gear and equip the Shadow's Edge and a shield. This way you'll have a lot of health and being in tank gear with the weapon. Also having a personal healer spam healing you on the breath attacks.

When you are hit by the correct spell you will gain the buff https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=72292. However, i am unsure if you will gain this buff per breath or after taking all four, if i was too guess it would be a stacking debuff just to make it that little bit harder, will get back if i see anymore info :o)

You do get https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=72292 per breath, stacking up to 4 times. Anti Magic shell doesn't break the quest, as a matter of fact the breath can even Miss (or be fully resisted i'm guessing) and you still get a stack of Frost Infusion.

Make sure you stay a good distance away from the tank/head when running to get hit by the breath, cleave hurts :<

Obviously you will want to get hit by the 4 breaths before phase 3, where the chances of getting one shot regardless of class are much higher.

On a side note, the debuff is worded poorly - having Frost Infusion does not reduce frost breath damage even though it reads "Shadow's Edge absorbs Sindragosa's frost breath."

You only get 6 minutes after you get the infusion to kill her. So try to get the infusion from the last breath before 35%.. or stack ams, bone shield, ibf, and pick up the last breath sub 35%

I did this as an unholy DK without speccing into magic suppression. Here's what I did:

1) Wear two or three frost resist pieces - mine was a bit over 300 with gear and buffs. You can fully resist a breath and still get credit for being in it.

2) Only take breaths with your anti-magic shell up to ensure you never die. If you're a warrior or a paladin use some cooldown to survive each breath, even if it's a pain suppression, guardian spirit, or some other healer life saver ability. Do not stand in cleave range - the breath has a 60 yard range. I stood back and stopped dpsing for a bit, took the breath, then ran in and continued to dps.

3) You will be slowed quite a bit by the second and third breath, so when she goes up and marks targets for icy tombs, find a way to increase your movement speed in case you're picked. I had a priest give me power word: shield who was specced into body & soul just to be safe.

4) The second and third breaths you take give you a dot which does frost damage - make sure your healers are aware of this.

5) Only take the fourth breath after she has gone up twice - you have 6 mins to kill her from the time you take breath number four, and this ensures you won't be in phase three when the 6 mins expires. When you take the fourth breath the frost dot wears off.

6) Stay alive, turn in quest, and get ready for fun as you collect 50 shards for the next part of the quest :)

Just done this as a Fury Warrior, using chest, belt, boots + Ring, sitting at 485 frost resist. Max frostbreath was ~20k. I was probably just lucky though.

Sindragosa seems to do a breath every 15-20 seconds.

Being in an Iceblock makes you immune to the DoT.

Just did this as a unholy dps DK,

no frost resist gear required at all, full dps gear, make sure boneshield is up, run into breath & hit AMS just before cast ends. Can IBF if you have it up but don't really need.

warn healers as you're about to take it of course :) didn't spike below 50% ever. (often resisted whole breath)

Just completed this last night as a Ret paladin. Only had 352 frost resistance. During the first ground phase I used Divine Protection for first breath, glyph'd Salvation for the second. Use HoF while running out from explosion since you are slowed from the breath. I then waiting until her third ground phase (after second air phase) and did the same thing. At this point there is ~5:30 left until enrage. If your worried about dying during phase 2 just let your raid leaders know your going to be nearly permanent DPS on the ice blocks.

This was way easier than the other two infusions. All you have to do is get 400 FrR then be ready to use your cooldown moves like Shield Wall and IBF and AMS, of Divine Portection

1st ground phase wait
2nd air phase wait
2nd ground phase go get 2 hit then run away. you must stand 30 yards from the tank, so run back so you don't get the stacks too fast.
2nd air phase wait
3rd ground go get another 2 hits and then you have the infusion. and how we get to dps with our team.
This is by far the easiest infusion,

I used 532 FrR gear and it was a little overboard, likely 410 would have been fine.

To be honest i think people worry way too much about this part of the quest (myself included til i did it). As melee we have a hell of a lot of HP (34.8k hp myself) so all we need is a few cooldowns blown on us. On my infusion i did the following:

First breath - Divine Protection
Second breath - Divine Sacrifice
Third breath - Divine Sacrifice
Fourth breath - Divine Protection

Warriors can do very similar to what i did with my cooldowns, DK's i guess it's even easier for you but still use your guildies CD's.

After this you get a 6 minute timer which is easy to meet provided your DPS'ers don't do anything silly. We managed to mess up the last phase nicely (typical when we one shot it every week but now i needed something on it!) but still managed to meet the timer in order fo finish my quest.

Have your paladins and even priests pop CD's on you and you will have absolutely no problem doing this, don't bother with Frost Res gear, just make sure your guildies pop those CD's when you ask for them!

Lots of theorycrafting in the comments, so here are some real numbers from when I did the quest a couple days ago. The quest was a walk in the park. Of course I was wearing the three Icebane pieces (which are comparatively cheap), and with the frost aura/totem I got the often mentioned 417 frost resistance. I gemmed the items with 24 Sta gems, pushing me slightly over 40k hp raid buffed in fury gear.
I didn't even make it into the top 10 damage taken list, but that's probably because of the relatively little damage I got from Chilled to the Bone: I spend quite some time getting hit by the frost breaths, running in front for Sindragosa early, steering clear of her paws to not get cleaved by accident.

Anyways, here are the numbers:

I just did this with an unholy DK, and did not change my spec in any way at all. The only changes I made were in gear.. I have a tank offspec so I wore my trinkets (Juggernaut's Vitality and Corpse Tongue Coin). You ideally want to have two stamina trinkets to soak up as much damage as possible (also to help you survive much more easily in phase 3). That should definitely be enough.

I did use AMS, which trivializes the frost breath damage, but even without it, you can just run in with frost presence and Icebound Fortitude as backup and survive just as well. Jugg's Vitality's cooldown also helps, as well as Corroded Skeleton Key's (I would assume).

I just wanted to add on a way for Paladins to do this. Haven't seen this mentioned yet. I basically put on all my Holy pvp gear(keeping the Shadow's Edge on) and put on the 3 set Frost resist gear+2 stam trinkets. Also used a HP flask, just for the sake of extra hp. I think I had around 42.7k hp raid buffed(tossed a few stam gems+enchants on frost gear), and by using CD's, the hand of salv glyph and the 6% extra reduce damage from RF talent. It really made this infusion trivial. All of this and I pretty much just put beacon on myself and kept our "real" healers healed lol.

I'm a warrior tank and I will be on this step hopefully next week. If I'm tanking her and swap to the Shadow's Edge while she frost breaths me can I then switch back to by tank weapon and shield and still have the debuff and just swap back to Shadow's Edge for the frost blasts or do I need to keep it equipped full time til i get all 4 blasts and then can I switch back to tank weapon and shield? I know that worked for the plague infusion with proffessor.

With the 30% buff it does help absorption effects at this point if your an unholy specced DK this is what you do.

Icebound Fort if possible which does effect the frost breath
AMS which should be possible on every frost breath
Unholy Armor which will take the hits very well.

I wear 2 +stam trinkets and run this and need 0 frost gear I barely went below 20k when fully buffed I was at 50921 health fully buffed in 25.

Well the buff is 30% now. Going to do this on my warrior. In full Fury gear I usually sit at about 43k hp. I'd hate to lose DPS... Anyways, I figure just Frost Resist Aura + Disc priest Bubble should allow me to eat each Frost Breath. Gonna test this out when I get the chance. ^&*! it, we'll do it live!

My nerves are wrecked...

Managed to complete this quest last night on my DK while being the Blood Off Tank.
Every time I start taking the breaths after the second Air phase so as to have enough time to kill her before the 6 min timer runs out.

I timed the breaths so I get the final breath that gets rid of the DoT at exactly when P2 starts
After several wipes and at the last try of the evening we hit phase 2.
I change with the main tank so he can drop off his Magic Buffet debuff.
Things go well for a while until she does the second Magic pull.

I am left with no heals and 11 stacks of magic buffet.
The main tank taunts and I die losing the four breaths pre-requisite.

I get battle rezzed, blow CDs and taunt.
The main tank goes to drop his 11 stack debuff and she starts breathing on me.
I get 3 breaths in and the MT gets back and taunts.
Sindy is now at 300K life left.
I stand there pop AMS and get bathed in the fourth breath.
She dies.

My nerves are wrecked...

As a retribution paladin who just completed this quest, I figured I'd give a few minutes to potentially help those of you who have yet to complete this quest. I actually attempted this twice before and failed. One week I was disconnected due to horrendous lag and the second week, I clicked outfitter to equip my frost resist set before the fight and it didn't equip Shadow's Edge (which you need to have equipped to complete this quest). Make sure you have Shadow's Edge equipped and not Heroic Bloodfall or whatever you might be using regularly instead. I should have noticed I was wielding a huge frickin' polearm, but I was not focused on myself. So please check your weapon if SE is not your primary!

Despite those failures, this quest is actually a breeze if you have a competent guild and don't disconnect or wield the wrong weapon.

For frost resist gear, I wore the standard 3 pieces of the Icebane set (Icebane Chestguard, Icebane Girdle, & Icebane Treads) plus the Titanium Frostguard Ring from jewelcrafting.

I also equipped my Bubbling Brightbrew Charm (+170 stamina) and the Corroded Skeleton Key (+228 stamina/6400 damage absorb use) for the extra stamina and damage mitigation.

I replaced my Glyph of Consecration with a Glyph of Salvation for the 20% damage reduction.

I am also specced into Aura Mastery so I made sure to utilize my Frost Resistance Aura to the max when I could before breaths.

This afforded me a ton of cooldowns which I used because we were light on healing during the attempt and I was able to keep myself up without much outside help. Our raid leader did not want me to miss getting the quest completed as our current shard gatherer would be missing some upcoming raids, so they had me stand behind the tank for the 2nd and 3rd air phases instead of worrying about running out to try and get a breath (without getting cleaved in the process).

I found the option of standing behind the tank much less stressful and if your guild has the DPS available, I would highly recommend taking up a spot 15 or so yards behind the main tank starting immediately after the first air phase.

I did not even use my pvp gear for the extra stamina and with raid buffs and the two tanking trinkets, I was well over 53k hp which was overkill. I didn't even have to use all my cooldowns and made sure to heal myself after the breaths so our healers could focus on others.

One thing to keep in mind, is that the debuff from the 4 breaths does slow you down significantly, so be sure to use Hand of Freedom on yourself for Sindragosa's Blistering Cold. This ability won't kill you on normal with all the frost resist gear and extra stamina, but on Heroic it could put a hurting on you.

Remember that the 4 stack of Frost Breath will wear off and you will get your movement speed back as a result. Do not fear that the quest isn't working when this happens. As long as you had Shadow's Edge equipped when you got your 4 frost breaths during the 2nd and 3rd air phase, you'll be fine. Someone mentioned in vent that they thought I should still have the 4 breath debuff, so I went in for more breaths during the last phase (with Mystic Buffet on me). This was completely unnecessary in retrospect. However, I wanted to let you know that despite having a large stack of Mystic Buffet on me during this, I was never in danger of dying due to the frost resist gear and stamina trinkets. Don't get too nervous about Mystic Buffet, but make sure you clear it once in a while and keep throwing insta-cast FoL's on yourself when available.

I played it super safe due to the issues with my previous two failed attempts and the necessity of getting the quest done due to our shard gatherer's upcoming hiatus, so you don't need to replicate what I did. But you can hopefully learn from my experience (and mistakes).

To summarize:

Most importantly, make sure you're wielding Divine Protection, Aura Mastery, Hand of Salvation if you're glyphed for it, and Corroded Skeleton Key if you have that trinket available.
Keep Sacred Shield up on yourself and pop yourself with Flash of Light as needed or Holy Light after a breath.
Use Hand of Freedom during Blistering Cold. You may also want to use it when positioning for the Ice Tombs during the air phases as your movement will be slowed.
Don't get paranoid and think the quest failed if your 4 stack of the frost breath debuff falls off. The only important thing is that you kill her within 6 minutes of the last breath. That should not be an issue if you get your 4th breath after the 2nd air phase (during the 3rd ground phase).
Just survive. Concentrate on using your cooldowns effectively and you won't even need help from healers. I believe that I could've easily finished this quest without even using the cooldowns I had available given my frost resist and stamina. If you're really worried, consider wearing pvp gear in the non-frost resist gear slots. Hopefully your guild will not require your DPS at all.

Frost Infusion when 2 people on the quest is tricky. The infusion happens once one of the 2 people on the quest gets the 4th breath, when that occurs the other person's stacks are gone, not sure if you can continue to build stacks, I will test it next week to see.

I had 3 stacks when the breath gave the other guy his infusion. but I didn't stand in front cause I thought I was done. needless to say when she died I didn't get credit.

just some thinks to notice...
the breath debuff you get stays up for 2 minutes..each stack does not add so with your 2nd debuff you will not have 4 mins....what to care about is the flying phases...if you get traped there is a possibility you will not get freed in time to be in front of the boss and get the other 2 frost breaths..
though i did miss my first 2 there is plenty of time to get them...
dps-wise...what we did was slowly burning the boss...we saved BL/TW till i had all 4 stacks and then simply nuke the boss...

No special strat required for this one in 2023. Just equip the axe and start the encounter, making sure you have no accidental/passive way of damaging Sindragosa.

Four breaths will take a few minutes. She flies up and launches ice bolts, just ignore them. She does the BREATH once per landing.

When you get to four stacks of the breath, the debuff changes to "Frost Aura" and then you kill her.
