I predict it's going to be like the Molten Core/ Hydraxian Waterlords set up. You do quests to attain items that will help you unlock steps leading up to Illidan exactly like the water and rune thing in Molten Core. Reputation will be gained via the assortment of quests offered and by killing mobs and bosses inside the Black Temple. Items could possibly be attained by your status with the classes such as resistance rings or necks.

I am currently 2117/3000 Neutral with the Ashtongue merely just from doing all the quests in Shadowmoon Valley. Yes, I am a Human and I dont see any other way to get more rep with this faction until Black Temple does come out.

Just do quests in SMV guys, there's a few quest lines involving the Deathsworn, and it'll answer your questions about them being "bad guys" and such.

Although they are 'aligned' with Illidan, Akama is secretly plotting against him. You'll find that in the quest https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10628 he only allied with Illidan because he was afraid of his race being destroyed.

After you've talked to him in that quest, he says "I am not as strong as I once was, <name>. Being so close to evil itself all these years - I do not know if I can trust myself with an artifact as powerful as this.

Take this as my promise to you that when the time comes and you face Illidan, I will be on your side. Take it to the one being we know we can trust with its power. Take the medallion to A'dal in Shattrath City."

When you fight Illidan in the Black Temple, he and Maiev come to help you.

Can rep for this faction be farmed OUTSIDE of black temple? ie the mobs by where you get the Baa'ri tablets for your Black temple attunement quest

Nihilum's MT Kungen is currently 999 Exalted with these, so it would seem apparent that you get rep from mobs in the black temple. http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Magtheridon&n=Kungen

You will hit Friendly reputation just by geting the BT quest chain finished and gaining access to the instance.

M'uru the 5th boss in SP requires heavy heavy Shadow Resist for everyone so basically the crafted sets are a must.

15-25 reputation for thrash
200-250 reputation for bosses ( illidan might be more, feel free to correct me)

After the Tablets of Baa'ri chain, your meet akama, he'll tell you to look for his friend in arc. after arc you need to do a 5 man quest near black temple. after that you'll get several blue rewards. Then you do SSC to talk to seer near leo and you'll get th final chain to get attune for Black temple.

I cant find any reason to attain rep with them, other than the aldor/scryer rep you get for the quest line.

this is one of the many factions you'll need rep with if you wish to participate in the events that help to open the black temple (like getting items to further the quest chain) but i surmise you'll still be able to get into BT after the gate is opened
