Does "binds when picked up" on the sword mean that you can only make this for yourself?

That's exactly what it means.

You probably mean the plan of this sword, the plan is tradable.

The plans can be traded. The sword itself cannot.

no, the plans r looted off the ground in stratholme next to baroness which triggers the quest mob which u have to kill 5-man and loot the quest item and return it to the quest giver to become a swordsmith. the plans r free for anyone to loot (someone looted it instead of me, not very nice, but i already got 1 anyway). the plan is BOE so u can sell on AH but the sword itself is BOP so ONLY the swordsmith can us it, which is REALLY REDICULOUS in my opinion. the -40 spirit is stupid, if it's not there i would make 1 straight away! really only good for a warrior but i'm a pally and i need my mana regen

To become a swordsmith, one has to grab these plans in Strat. Thus, every swordsmith should have these plans. It is not necessary to try to sell these unless you find some n00b like the one above to actually buy these plans. Every day I see at least 3 ads trying to sell these. I should make a macro with an automated response to those ads saying: Don't waste your time!

A swordsmith has to run Stratholme in a 5 man group and kill a fella and loot the plans from him (or off the ground which spawns him.) Either way, the ones who need this, swordsmiths, are going to get a copy of these plans en route BECOMING swordsmiths. It's a loop. Someone gave the plans to me, which was nice to look forward to and all, but they sat in my bank for months, only to be duplicated when I did the quest to become a swordsmith.

Why do you think the plans are so cheap? Because no one needs to buy them. Thing is, some people run the instance, pick up the plans and don't know so they sell them or give them to their blacksmith friends.

Actually.......
The Quest I have is called Corruption and you have to get the....Insignia of The Black Hand.
Once you have done that whats his name in Everlook will give you (depending what you are gonna specialize in)plans...in my case....Blazing Rapier plans.....Then he will train you to be a Master Swordsmith...(in my case)...So...not anyone can make it.....Ahhhhhhhhhhh......

so does that mean if i wnt this pattern i have to go swordsmith? cause this wep has insane stats for its lvl and itd be cool to have the pattern

I was wondering something, these plans, it seems are no longer attainable from the loot place in front of the Blackguard in Strath. I have asked several GMS what the deal is? And they won't tell me, so I am wondering if they're just a drop in Strath now or what. I am such a freakin completist. And by the way - PRE BC Blacksmithing have no more speccs, as in a Hammersmith can now learn recipes that were once available only to Armorsmiths and such. But post BC you still have to stick to your repective speccs. I am a 375 Weaponsmith / MAster Swordsmith and I know just about ALL of the plans pre BC.

SWEET somebody put these up on the AH with a 5g bid and no buyout, obviously trying for a bidding war, and i bid on it while the time said medium and i won for 5g! Now i figured, well its gotta be at least worth more than 5g and today i had a sneaking suspicion that it was a lot more so i checked thottbot..120g! yesssss

and also..notice how the AH value has shot up to 123g..thats because after BC the guy in strat stopped dropping this and that blacksmithing quest doesnt give this anymore----thats y their now practically uber-rare..their only a rare drop in strat now--

just got the plans for 1g20s off the AH..
they were selling for 15g buyout, but i got a bid in just before the server shut down...

think ill sell it though, doubt i'll ever make it... pretty tricky to get all the "ingredients" for it
