These are actually quite powerful. With the 2.7% dodge (factoring in the agility) they can defend themselves as tanking shoes in raid zones.

Although the stam is a bit low (10-20 below par) the dodge makes up for it. dimishing returns on armor make it acceptable to have these instead of Tier 1 or 2. By Dreadnaught, though, it's time to put away the ZF level loot.

Like stated, an excellent tanking item. However, as a warrior one thing I pride on is to beat other warriors in pvp. Dodge = Overpower. Not a good choice for warrior vs. warrior battles, but don't tell that to your warrior friends :).

Actually on the contrary... =) I'd rather have a ton of dodge, who cares if they get an overpower with a cooldown of 5 seconds.. if that's all they can hit me with they're screwed. It's like vs. a rogue in a duel, of course he's gonna evasion.. you may get an overpower, but nothing else.

Didnt see it on the list of guys that dropped this money maker but I got it off a primitive owl beast in the Hinterlands. Wasn't looking for it but was very happy to find it. Unless you are a twink, I wouldn't waste your time using it for you or anyone else... sell it and get the cold hard cash! Warriors don't dodge we take our beating and like it!

Bought these off AH for 60g, way lower than the regular price on my server (Sylvanas). They tend to go for 100-150g at least.

Anyway, just turned 40 with my warrior, and the 2% dodge is really, really nice. It might not sound much, but the difference is quite noticeable. A nice step up from the Ravasaurs I wore earlier.

I read that some people think these boots "shouldnt be bothered with" for a level 60 tank. Though I dont have them myself I think these are a great option.

Even at level 60, the options for tanking boots are fairly limited. I myself was lucky enough to get the quest reward from silithus: "crystal encrusted greaves", which have 512 armor , 21 stamina, and +5 defense, and are imho the best tanking boots to get before ZG, MC and the like. However , these are knd of a hassle to get so I wont take them into consideration as a regular option for most.

So what are the oher options:
1-grimy metal boots:552armor,17str,dodge+1%
2-shalehusk boots:417armor,5sta,dodge+2%
3-corpselightgreaves:445armor,22sta,10shadowresistance

If u compare these its easy to see why boots of avoidance are still pretty good for tanking at level 60. If I remember correctly (dont quote me on this) every point of agility adds 3 armor. So the boots of avoidance would have a total of 402 armor, which is rather lowish, but consider the benefits:

20 points in agility give +1% dodge. So you gain an additional .7% dodge. Giving these boots a total of +2.7% to dodge. Not too shabby

Compared to corpselight greaves-> lose 43 armor, and 11sta. gain 2.7 chance to dodge

compared to Shalehusk boots-> lose 15 armor , gain .7%dodge and 6 stamina

compared to grimy metal boots-> lose 17 str and 150 armor . Gain 1.7% to dodge and 11 sta.

So its not that crazy to keep these as tanking boots for a warrior at level 60.

Edit: I realize I forgot the master cannoneer boots(21 sta, 10 str) , and the ribsteel footguards (10 str, 10 agi, 17sta). Which are both also decent options for tanking. But u get the idea anyway

Why does it matter if a tank gets hit compared to tanking? A tank getting hit =/= more Hate. A tank Dodging and then Revenging DOES = Hate. (should it hit ofcourse) These allow you to dodge, get decent stats, AND take less damage (which easily makes up for the armor compared to level 60 boots) Best of all it's useful to more than one type of player (Fury/Prot Warrior +/- Paladin) And it's acquirable at the very level of plate wearing. I snagged these for 200g on Eitrigg (Pricey, meh, I have the money.) so I just need to hit 40 now..

i came upon these from the third mob in ZF. i was the only plate wearer in the group so i was stoked. however, a rogue and a mage rolled NEED on these too. the rogue won them and bounced. i was royally pissed.

Because they have exactly the stats tanks want. Avoidance and Stamina. There's absolutely nothing with +def until you do The Calling or go into ZG, both of which require 20 people. There's the Grimy Metal Boots with Dodge and good armor, but no stamina. There's Master Cannoneer's with nice Stamina, but no avoidance at all. Ribsteel giving up stamina for a slight amount of avoidance.

It's just like how the best helmet is crafted (Enchanted Thorium) and the best shoulders are another world drop Epic. As much as I hate having to wear mass amounts of BoEs, sometimes they just are the best there is for the time being.

and if i ever see annyone in my group that is not a plate wearer freaking need, adn im party leader i will just make it some how that they dont get it... i have magical powers and will boot them and tell everyone on my friends list to tell the world about this! To dponriv...........Maybe you should read my post........again.......and see that really......it's a waste of breath to trashtalk. They're excellent for PVE. Would you like to tell me how having Sulfuras, hand of Ragnaros, or Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is also a waste? It's old school and camp, so move along and save your breath for some HOPEFULLY, even semi intelligent comment to someone else.

Bought for 98g on Feathermoon for a friend's ret/prot pally (lvl 40). Great for leveling, I am sure they will be of use for a long time.
Guys, don't be greedy. If you are in a party with a plate wearer who is not primarily a healer let them NEED on BoE plate. You can get gold more honestly than ripping off the person who has the stones to tank for you, cause some days it's a thankless job.

These dropped for my party today at Zul'Farruk. They're the first ever epic items I've seen drop. I sat there for a moment with my finger hovering over the need button even though I couldn't wear them since I was worried someone else would need and sell them. In the end though only the warrior pressed need and he put them on as soon as he got them. And you know what, the happy feeling of knowing that one of our group got an awesome piece of loot to wear and his thanks was far better than 200 gold would have been.

Now I just hope when a great epic that I can wear drops the rest of the party will be just as nice as the guys I was with today.

Dropped for my rogue last night in searing gorge off a dark iron slaver. It was nice to get them because two asshat 70's were camping me at 50 and when they finally tired of beating up on me, all the mobs had respawned for my quest and the first one I killed dropped these boots. Nice little piece of retribution for having to put up with noob gankers.

well I'm FOR all-need on BoE drops like that. even protections can be ninjas u know. not thinking of using it, only selling. THAT's NO NEED REASON! When i was on my horde warrior a other warrior needed for Blade of Misfortune and he was 5 lvls higher than the require lvl and he was DW specced with onehands far better. i watched him on armory and guess what HE NEVER RESPECCED! needing on good seller epic boe's because you are the only one who can use it, is like mages needing the rarespawn bow in RFK when you have run 20 times for it on your hunter, because they "have disenchating" and same for bossdrops that noone needs mages needrolls and dont share the shard for rerolls. F.them!

I was doing ST with a group on my level 52 pally. These dropped and I waited to watch for anyone trying to ninja them. Of course this level 50 PROT pally clicked need. I did the same, whispering the other group members that we could do a reroll on them.

I won and the pally went crazy cussing me out and saying that HE needed them because they were better than his boots. First of all they were better than my boots seeing as how I'm ret but of course I would outgrow them in no time. What does a level 50 need with level 40 gear?

He left the group and continued to cuss me out so I put him on ignore. The rest of us rerolled and what do ya know? I won =D

All in all not a bad experience though it reminded me of why I HATE grouping before 70...there's always a ninja.

The only epic BoE item I got twice so far. First one dropped by a Troll in the Temple more than 1 year ago (won the roll against 3 other plate wearers and used them for a while), second one dropped just recently by Galgann Firehammer in Uldaman while farming. Sold for 80g (I put a 7 Sta enchant on it to make them more attractive).

The overall 2,7% Dodge makes them one hell of a nice tanking pair of shoes for that level.

Got these on Lothar with my BE paly. Dropped of Southsea Swashbuckler in Tanaris! ^_^ I had just saw on AH that morning and wished I was'nt to cheap to buy them, went to tanaris to quest with my buddy and the 2nd pirate we killed dropped them. We both greed on them and I won! they are nice boots. :)

It was a lucky drop from a lvl 47-48 troll mob at the Altar of Zul. I was trying to get the mallet to summon gahz'rilla in ZF. The dropper wasn't elite and he/she was with those 2 bosses at the top of the Altar. Sold it for 133g and someone bought it out within 5 hours. I love the AH.

Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 24 (3.25% @ L40).

(back in the days these used to give 2% dodge.

If you decide to make a lvl 49 twink, your dodge would be increased by 2.53%.

im a pally and i was so close to getting these and im so pissed that i didnt. We are about to do ZF and we need 1 more so i decide to let a 41 pally join cause he says he can heal. After the first couple of people we kill these boots drop. The pally and me needed it and a rogue who accidentally needed it. THe rogue didnt come close to winning them and the 41 pally got them. I was so pissed for letting him join because if he didnt i would have gotten these amazing boots.

These dropped of the big named Witch Doctor in Zul'Farrak, and, despite the fact that I was the only Paladin in the group, and there were no other warriors, nor were there healers, a gnome warlock took them for a low lvl alt who couldn't wear yet but "needed" them. I was so pissed...Boots were the first epic I found.

Seems to be one of the most mislead things that people think stamina is most important for a tank. News flash, it isn't. In places like MC or against Onyxia, the amount of HP the tank is healed for can be anything up to 200-300k. When you consider what is considered a large difference in HP for a tank, let's say, the difference between 5k hp and 10khp, that extra 5k is pathetic compared to the extra HP generated by heals. Now, don't get me wrong, stamina is good and a tank should always have a good dose of it, but the point is that your HP isn't going to save you - only a priest is going to do that. Because of that, stamina isn't the primary concern. The most important mods on tanking gear are increased defence and increased dodge/parry. Tanking Lucifron, if you have increased defence + 15, that will give you roughly one extra parry or dodge every 100 attacks. Doesn't sound like much, but that'll reduce your damage over 100 attacks by 800 (he hits for like 800) whereas an extra huge bonus of 50 stamina will only net you an extra 500 HP for the ENTIRE fight.

Because of this, these boots are the best tanking boots at the moment (aside from Might/Wrath). The extra dodge is fantastic, that'll bag you 1400-2000 damage less every 100 hits from an MC boss on its own. At the moment my dodge is 12% and parrying 14%, courtesy of dodge/parry mods and large amounts of increased defence. That's basically a 26% chance that when I'm physically attacked I will take no damage at all. I'd take that any day over extra HP considering Priests dont heal for a % of your max HP, only constant amounts anyway.

In the end stamina is only really important for a Warrior when doing things solo, or without a healer. When you have a healer and are tanking, you want to be reducing the damage you take rather than increasing your HP.

To all you unlucky people who think "Epics never drop in instances...." well, i JUST got these and Gut Ripper from Maraudon. The boots were from a Vine Constricter (1st kill) and the Gut Ripper was off a turtle. then, after that, a High Bergg Helm dropped off a Dryad. =p I am LOADED now!

Got them in Mara in a group of 5, was level 39 also, they were nice enough to run me through the whole thing (they were all friends) they droped after me saying one of them were greedy for saying they were poor when they were wearing epics and that I wish I had a epic, we all greed it and I got a 100 roll. They all congratulated me, was a really nice group. Really needed the money for a mount also.

Got mine in ZF. Dropped from some random trash mob troll. Didn't need roll because i didnt want to be seen as a ninja rolling noob. The priest got them, but he saw my boots and gave them to me... Don't see much of that kinda generosity on MMO's i must say. They look like some kinda spandex on an undead, very skinny.

Got them yesterday, Mosh'Ogg Shaman dropped them^^ Haven't seen them in AH for ages so I put it on for 80g, buyout 100g. In the next hour another 3 Boots of avoidance were there, all at a lower price, just so I couldnt sell mine lol. Wish i was a warrior, i've got no use for them with my hunter.

highest avoidance in the game for boots a whole 2.7% the (0.7% is from the agility) huge, got these for 27g an absolute steal for soloing lower level dungeons.
