The change is for the pre TBC patterns. The ones that are after, like the Windhawk set https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/itemset=618, still requires a specialization.

Does this only drop for people who have leatherworking? I'm trying to farm one for our guild leatherworker and it isn't working...

I've spent the last couple days farming these guys for this drop...nothing. Either they've changed the drop rate or my luck is horrible!

Edit: Finally, about 150 kills later.

I'm still grinding this pattern, even found a Kang the Decapitator epic while grinding, but still no pattern.

I can't help but think this is sort of sadistic. I mean, a 2.5% drop rate? I've killed so many of these, and I have never, ever even seen the pattern in the AH on Kargath. Ah well, at least I'm building Windhammer faction. Save up those tribal necklaces!

it says a 3.9% drop rate, or something like that, but i got it on my second kill. Im a 54 balance druid and i solod it, it wasnt that hard

Killed about 7 Vilebranch Hideskinners then it dropped...

did it myself .. im a 60 warrior with Valor and IceBarbedSpear...

So I decided to try to get this pattern solo with my lvl 56 hunter. Not really hard but dang do those hideskinners have killer DPS. I didn't realize until I got there that I had forgotten to fill up my ammo, so I only had 400 shots. Doh, oh well, I needed to go to bed anyway.

5 kills into it, this gets dropped:

My first epic drop ever!

2 kills later, I get a Journeyman's backpack, a nice addition.

I couple of green drops later, I'm down to 3 bullets left. I decide to try to take one more, even though the dang things murder me when I try to melee. I barely survive and my pet dies, but I couldn't believe what I got on my last kill, this pattern!

Not a bad run for only 21 Hideskinners dead :) I'm pumped.

I also stopped and picked up the pattern for the shoulders on the way out.

I saw this pattern at Bloodscalps AH (alliance) price was 8g bid and 10g buyout.
I dont know is that too much, but that was the orice anyway :)

On Tichondrius (alliance) it is currently going for 20g .. youch. Gonna go farm it for my druid.

Got it on my fifth kill. Solo'd Jintha with a 55 Hunter looking for the pattern. I've been through on several other characters and never seen it drop. Was very happy when the Hideskinner dropped it for me today =)

I brought my druid up to Jintha'lor to farm for this recipe since I needed the BP and nobody I knew had the recipe. I got owned by the first hideskinner I found (recently respec'd to moonkin and still getting used to it) So I brought out my 70 fire mage, killed 3 of them and the very same one that killed my druid dropped it :) so I got it either on the 1st or 4th kill, however you look at it hehe

After hours, hours of farming, hundreds of hideskinners, I haven't got that recipe. WTH IS WRONG? I'm so frustrated killing these idiots even though I'm 57 and I don't need the recipe really anymore, I WANT THAT FREAKING RECIPE!

Just went to do saving sharpbeak quest and got THREE of these...and i didn't even kill my way up there. I was in Hinterlands in the big step maze...jartha i think...they seem to drop pretty well there.

It took me 5 kills to get this with my level 52 Draenei. I was surprised to see it drop so soon.

Alright i farmed these guys for 2 hours killed over 200 of them on my 60 balance druid, then the next day i did the same thing on my 67 hunter.... i dont think it drops nemore, is it gone?

When you have both the shoulders and the breastplate equipped, the set bonus is a +20 to healing effects. Now, assuming the rest of your gear can take up the slack, it's possible for a hunter to wear this to boost mend pet skill for a little extra healing. Might be worth taking along in your bags if you plan soloing a dungeon, and have your pet tank a difficult boss.
