As a BM hunter i can get 0.78 Attack Speed on this, so a good, fast weapon.

But a question, should I use this or https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=17753#M0z ( Verdant Keeper's Aim)?

This is a horrible ranged weapon for pretty much any class. Hunters will find their ammo running out quickly because the gun is just way too fast for us, while warriors and rogues get almost zero use of the ranged attack power bonus.

Greed it, shard it, vendor it.

Ok, let me tell you why this is not the best weapon for hunters.

Aside from the ammo usage (which is no big deal, imo) look at the max damage. It's only 77. So that means when you crit, you are going to have small (albeit, probably more frequent) crits. Initially you may think it evens out...but ahh, it does not. More frequent crits means that you will, in PVE settings, be pulling more aggro, meaning you have to Feign more - which means you use more mana. Furthermore, the fast shot speed would make it very difficult to keep your shot rotations up (if you use them).

In the PvP world this would have positive and negative aspects. The positive being that the fast shot speed would absolutlely decimate casters, not allowing them to get spells off. So that's good. But with PvP you want max damage in minimal time, so that means you need to go with a slower bow/gun with higher max damage so that you can maximize the aimed shot crits and crits in general.

This gun would be optimal for a prot spec warrior - contrary to what the above poster said. Reason being, is that the AP that they would get from this weapon would be a nice DPS boos for them, in a slot that they rarely get to supplement with something of this caliber. Furthermore the added RAP will help the warrior a bit when pulling.

As a BM hunter I, personally, would pass on this. There are better weapons for us. The Verdant Keeper's Aim is better due to the higher max damage (like 127).

Wonder how this holds up come 2.3 with the addition of hit rating O_o. Not much gear at this level with hit rating, even with the changes of 2.3

With 2.3 this is good for any melee class as well for the +hit. You shouldnt really need on it if a hunter in your group needs but tbh Verdant Keeper's Aim, from the instance main quest is way better imo.

The verdant bow is more of a MM weapon. For BM you just want fast auto shots to complement serpent's swiftness and imp AOTH.

I have a 70 BM hunter and got this while taking a break from nagrand meat farming. Used it to get my gun skill maxed. Hits decent considering it's level and speed. Add a scope and it'll get the job done.

This weapon is KING. I picked it up at 53, and I like it BIG time. It's all BM hunter's dream. Mark the target being shoot and go afk. It owns my heartseeking crossbow.

The speed is great, perfect for BM, not to mention +hit rating at this level, it's rare. Plus CoH (chance on hit) is worthless compared to stats. Remember, "chance", there's a chance it could proc, theres an even higher chance it wont.

When you apply a +7 scope to both Verdant Keeper's and Megashot, Megashot is actually better DPS, so just keep that in mind.

On my hunter, it's only about a 2 DPS difference, BUT Megashot is wicked fast.

The fireblaster does 44-84, meaning an average 64 damage. Assuming the hunter has 504 attack power and +13 DPS bullets, let's look at aimed shot damage.

Level 44 Aimed shot=+300 damage

504/14=36

49*2.6= 127.
171-211 per regular shot
Aimed shot= 571-611
Aimed shot crit= 1142-1222

Megashot Rifle.

523/14=37.3

37.3*1.7=63

95-124 per regular shot
Aimed shot= 395-424
Aimed shot crit=790-848

PvP = Slow
PvE = Fast

Heres why in pvp with a slow weapon you can get the most out of your multi-shot and aimed shot, and woe is he who has to endure a crit by any of the two shots. If you are a real hunter you would be kiting the melee class most of the time so chances are you arent standing in one spot for more than .5-1.5 seconds and in that time you probly would only get 1 autoshot even with the fastest weapon, so you would want the burst damage, and a slow weapon would provide this. Agaisn't a mage spell interupt is almost moot, since most mages opt for instants casts, and toying with your deadzone by frost novaing you and using the mages assortment of instant casts ie. Arcane explosion, Cone of Cold, Fire Blast.
also remember you also have a pet for interuption.

In PvE, high-crit burst damage is bad, since it can steal agro from the tank, a 1.9k aimed shot crit or a 1.1k multishot crit will almost garuentee that the mob will be running toward you, so fast weapon will provide a more consistent dps without stealing agro, but it has a drawback you'll be using amno a lot faster, I find myself sometimes biting my finger in a 4 hour instance run, because im running low on amno.

P.S. for grinding go for a slower weapon. Slower amno consumption, and big crit = faster fight.
and while grinding to level its all about exp/hour.

P.P.S. this is comparing between two ranged weapon with comparable dps, not one doing 19 dps at 2.9 while the other is doing 27 dps at 1.7.

they normalized aimed shot and multi-shot so this gun isnt too bad... the auto-shot crits wont be very big though =/

Ok if you've gotten to Tinkerer I'm gonna assume you beat Princess, and if you had any sense you would get the quest to kill Princess (it's shareable and it can be found at Nigel's Point). Now the Verdant Bow does some 28 dps. This does around 28.4 (considering the attack power bonus). So you'd think that the Megashot is better. Well if you want constant damage in boss fights and instances, yes, but if you like to pvp, I'd go with the Verdant bow, because it has a 2.6 attack speed, which means more damage per shot, which means crazy crits.

I know this topic already has been discussed, but after reading those i still don't know what to do. I'm a lvl 50 hunter who got lucky enough to win the megashot rifle on a greed roll (had just got verdant keeper's). Seems they are about equally good, the main difference being their speed and the +arcane resistance of the megashot.
But since i wear the infernal trickster's leggings that has the +4 bow my gut feeling tells me to go with the verdant keeper.
I don't do pvp all that much, concentrate on instances and solo pve...
Which one is the one for me?

with beast master inproved aspect of the hawk procs. 15% + rapid fire 40% + 10% faster attacks with gloves enchant + 13% speed inc from ammo bag on a 1.7 speed gun = .77 speed for attack.

any way to make it faster and find a pet that can hold aggro when i use this?

BM Spec with maxed gun skill, this gun hits for anywhere from 90 - 120 non crit and about 200+ white crit for me.

This gun is quick but eats up ammo. I ran Mara at lvl 52 with Dwarven Hand Cannon in the bank waiting for 53 so this will do till then.

You have to wonder why +5 to arcane resist, i mean really...

Some of the weapons in the game just really make zero since.

I purchased a P.C. boomstick for 50g@ lvl 43.
I am currently lvl 50 and just won this as a greed roll. Since both are soulbound, which is a better weapon to use?
+14 Agi @ 1.5sec (P.C.B)
+14 attack power @ 1.7 (mega)

ok the megashot rifle is faster than verdant which means that it isnt going to hit as hard as verdant. but it also means that you are going to pull less agro. so if u ask me megashot is better if you look at it that way. verdant is probably better in pvp but i dont really care about BGs and w/e. so i'm sticking with megashot.

I am a dwarf hunter, so racially i have a +5 gun skill, and i have never even trained for a bow. I love PvP and am thinking that i should switch to bows, but should i just stick with megashot or galgans fireblaster because it would b to much of a hastle to switch to bows for ammo, quiver, training, etc.

Mage, Priest, Caster druid, caster shaman, warlock: Fast

Warrior, Rogue, Paladin, Melee Druid/SHaman - Slow

WHY? Well, You DEFINITELY need a fast gun for casters. A slow gun will - at best - allow a fireball or shadowbolt between 2 shots. However, on melee classses you need a slow gun for burst dmg, since theyh will mitigate fast DPS at best and avoid it at worst.

Enemy hunters are totally out of the question, since you'll pref. be meleeing them anyways.

Hunters NEED slower weapons to do more damage... im using a gun that is 2.90 speed and my max crit is 1681

I find this weapon very usefull in pvp, very good against casters. Useless in dungeons, cause of the high speed.
As a BM, when i gain rapid fire, i can shot every .07sec. ;)
W/o rapid fire, i hit every 1.2 sec.
Target those mages when they cast pyroblast, intimidate them and they're meat for your pet.

It's a hunter weapon, for sure, in pvp only !

As for PVE, i still use The Silencer ( The Silencer )

went there last night and the rifle dropped. some stupid warrior rolled too, so my hunter was left with nothing. thank god the quest reward for killing the princess gives a good bow too :S

Just leveled to this baby. Not alot of power, but bloody fast! The dps is worth the reduced power rating... and it practically sounds like you have a machine gun going off in your hand!

Big prob with this rifle is the 1.7 speed. Have to lug around half an extra pack of ammo for instance runs. still does nice damage tho.

Megashot + quickshots proc + rapid fire + devilsaur eye = sickening damage/speed; 0.81 or 0.82 attack speed by that point, can't remember exactly.

Combined with a 0.77 attack speed broken tooth for a pet under the influence of frenzy, and you're a caster's worst nightmare.

Sure, it'll chew through your ammo like nobody's buisness *especially* when that happens, but it's all worth it to see the semi-automatic type action.

Sure, smaller crits yadda yadda, but they'll happen more often, and you'll get a more consistant dps without high crits taking aggro from off your pet or the main tank. That, and quickshots tends to proc a whole lot more often, which also adds to the total dps output.

And lastly, you're (at least theoretically) going to get more overall benefit from any damage/attack power bonuses on a faster weapon. +7 damage from a sniper scope per hit is still +7 on a slow weapon, so it's almost doing twice as much extra damage on a faster weapon like this over time due to the increased weapons speed. Not sure if that applies to attack power bonuses from dex/items too, or if the normalised attack speed calculations come into it or only with ability damage, but still. Definately does more damage however you look at it.

A nice upgrade over the Verdant Keeper's Aim from my first run through Maraudon by about 2.5dps, despite the base drop in dps, all thanks to the attack power bonus on the weapon. :)

I have this gun lolz its really really good cuz of its speed though it has a slight boost its kinda a small boost lolz with my gear plus buffs I can do 1013 damage pretty often

Got this just today still got to lvl to 48 but this baby will be nice and the thrash blade to upgrade my melee is the icing on the cake. I like fast weapons seems to help me since I pull alot from my pet with the burst damage this will tone the damage down evenly and if I get a pull I can get more shots in before the arrive. Looking forward to the mayhem I will be inflicting in the BG's with this.

fast ranged weapons on hunters isnt nearly as good unless you are all out PvE, AotH gives you more damage per hit, quivers give a way better boost, and rapid fire works way better
