Great dagger, very much overlooked yet a must-have for any 40-49 twink rogue. It has nearly the same topend damage as a Gut Ripper (popular 40-49 twink dagger), and best of all the proc ignores armor unlike the Gut Ripper's.

If you've got a dagger rogue in 40-49 and you want a good mainhand on the cheap, have a high-level friend run you through Mara until you pick up this beauty.

I'd say the gut ripper is preferred because it is a slower dagger with a higher reaching damage range, meaning while it has the same DPS it can critically hit for much more damage, making it a better main hand weapon. Gut-ripper and this would go well together come to think of it. Besides, the loss of damage in the proc would be worth it for a subtlety rogue with Ambush being such a valuable talent.

Let me start by saying that this is categorically NOT a 25% drop as the stats imply.

I just spent the best part of 6 hours farming this guy, we must have killed him 20 times and it did not drop once.

During that time we spotted and killed meshlok twice and both times he dropped the fungus shroud armour.

Our group was a 49, 50 and 57 rogue and we killed him easily, by blinding the 2 guards and ganging up on vyletongue.

I will one day get this dagger but if you want to do the same be resigned to collecting a LOT of cloth waist bands, each of the 3 of us ended up with about 3 or 4 of them in the end.

we killed him yeasterday 1 time and he droped it my group was 2x51 pala 1x51 mage 1x50 druid
and me rogue lvl 49 and he was no problem ...

You CAN switch weapons, and use the lash for ambushes and trash for SS...

this is a very nice dagger, and it has nice chance of dropping, and not a long run also..
got it on my first try.. :) this and thrash blade on off hand rox ;p

wel i got this dagger from lvl 49,now i'm 56 and farming the BS.
but the satyr's lash is verry good.
ambush crit is sometime's 900-1200 dmg,without cb
and a backstab can take to +-1000,maybe its lower with other armor but that i dont now,i got the devilsaur set and stormshroud chest and shoulders.
so yes this dagger is verry good for the lvl you can get it

Got this on my first run ever. I'm a rogue and i use this as main hand with https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=4822/owls-disk (Julie's Dagger) in off-hand

Lol.. he's really hard to solo.. but its posible whit 2 lvl 60 rogues... but one of them died.. and i almost did to (im lvl 45). but i get it at my first stealth-run..

I got this my first run in Mara, I'm 43 currently a 44 warlock was rolling against me he wanted it for the shadow bolt effect, I thought that was a bit of BS but whatever I won he didn't... now the dagger is banked safely deep in IF, can't way to get to 45 to use it

it drops in purple part of Maraudon. I'm lvl 50 rogue and using it. It isn't bad :)

But thought about getting Gut Ripper, that has more dmg so better for backstabbin, tho that is really expensive, so thinking about farming it :D

anyway this dagger is rly nice in main hand too

me 49 rogue and a 47 rogue just tried a bunch of stealth runs to Vyle...we had healpots and elixers of demonslaying and still couldn't get it done. The main problem was that the last 2 guards respawn right away, so if you think you will kill guards /die/kill Vyletongue, be forewarned...

My rogue got it on his first run of Mara yesterday at level 45. Since I'm combat spec, I'm using the Thrash Blade in my MH and the dagger in my OH and I'm really happy with the results.

I ran Marudon last night, this dropped. It was a fight for who would TAKE it. Everyone passed on it and it came down to one guy having to be bribed to take this.

Vyletounge doesn’t like me. I've killed him 8! Times now and he hasn’t dropped it yet. I want to replace my Ghaz`Rilla fang with this, but it doesn’t seem to want to drop! I'd get a widow maker instead but they go for 70gold-100gold on Dragonblight :( Hopefully everyone else has better luck getting this than me!

This will make a great rogue dagger, and for anyone looking for it, it drops in the purple area of Maraudon off of Lord Vyletounge.

First run in Mara! Got it right way..and got 2 more Blue itens...

Very good weapon, I will put some Icy or Fiery on it.

It did drop off Lord Vyletongue. Very good Shammy weapon I can say. With the Windfurry and Flurry procs, the weapon seems to shoot the Shadow Bolt fairly often (about 1-5% of the time). It seems like a low chance but when those extra attacks start kicking in so does shadow damage.

I can't imagine what this would be like in the hands of a rogue though.

I agree that this is a nice dagger. I would do solo runs for it (rogue here) when I am at a high enough level to do so. But I also want my weapons to have a stat increase. I would likely use it, but switch out in favor of a weapon that boosts agility. If a caster or such wants it, they can have it

Ok, I did stealth runs with two 60 rogues to get this dagger. Dropped on 3rd try.
I am sooooo happy with this dagger.
First of all you get it for free (don't have to pay the 50g or whatever it is for a Widowmaker).
I'm going to slap +15 AGI on this or fiery.
I'm not sure how often it procs though (the shadowy bolt thing...).
Anyways, as a level 46 rogue, I destroy with this thing in AB or WSG.
With ambush, I always hit around 500-900 damage and my backstabs from 250-550.
It's awesome, I can go from caster to caster taking them out in 2-3 hits.
I really recommend this dagger (especially if you can't, or don't want to pay high money for a dagger in AH...).

Did my first mara run today lvl 50 rogue, first run someone had staff so we skipped that part, croc dropped boots but i let the other guy have it because I got the ring off princess and felt bad for the other rogue.
2nd run i went mainly for the boots we did the whole run this dagger got dropped i rolled a 64 and a warlock also rolled and won... from tben on he dced and never came back we finished run with 4 ppl all lower than 50 and we managed to kill princess and croc, but the dam croc dropped cloth shoulders...i was so pissed, got nothing but garbage.

Just ran Maraudon for the first time ever today as a 50 rogue. This and Fungus Shroud Armor dropped and I happened to be lucky enough to get both. The dagger is a very nice upgrade from Black Menace, which I was using in tandem with Coldrage. Slap some +4 on each...deadly.

I got 30 "Shadow Bolts" from 1,025 basic auto-attacks. Roughly translates to a 3% chance-on-hit (or 1 PPM), with 2 crits that probably translates to a built-in 5% crit chance, which dealt exactly 1.5x of base damage. The resulting added average dps is +1.1, which can increase if you're using any "extra attack" abilities like Windfury or Sinister Strike. I also tested with 100 +Spell Damage equipped, and there was no change in the amount of damage dealt.

The proc animation looks and sounds like a Warlock's Shadow Bolt spell.
