Used for Thorium Brotherhood rep. Turn in to Master Smith Burninate (go Trogdor and Homestar) at Thorium Point in sets of 4.

From 0 rep at friendly to honored status will take 960 residues.

They only drop from mobs in BRD, ask your party members if they mind helping you out and contributing their share of residues. Maybe offer 1s a piece to help defray repair costs for them when they get out of BRD.

am i aloud to ask questions about this item? well im going to anyway so plz tell me if i am not aloud. how much will they cost me to buy 960 dark iron residue and how after i get honored can i keep useing them to raise my rep?

Speak to Master Smith Burninate at the new Thorium Point town, do the quest to get the plans from he cauldron. After that, he gives a repeatable quest that gives 25 rep per turn in (at lvl 60). The repeatable quest requires 4 Kingsblood, 2 Incendosaur scales (from the Incendosaurs in the lava area inside the Cauldron) and 1 coal. This quest is from Nuetral to Friendly.

Once you are friendly with the Thorium Brotherhood, the repeatable quest changes to 4x Dark Iron Residue, which will bring you up to Honored. So stock up on the residue, you'll need a LOT.

I myself just finished grinding hundreds of Incendosaurs tonight to get to Honored, thank goodness I bought hundreds of Kinsblood before the patch went live and it was still cheap :P

gaining faction gives you access to certain items available through certain members of the thorium brotherhood, such as the dude in BRD tavern. I know he offers plans to weaponsmiths (dark iron reaver) and armorsmiths (dark iron bracers and leggings), but i'm not sure about plans for other professions.

ATTENTION! HERE IS THE SCOOP!

Dark Iron residue is used to increase your reputation from friendly to honored with the thorium brotherhood in a repeatable quest, see below. U do this at the same place you do the repeatable quest to become friendly with the thorium brotherhood. This is done at Master Smith Burninate at Thorium Point.

Note: To become friendly u must complete a repeatalbe quest turning in 4 kingsblood 2 incendosaur scales and a coal. This takes a total of 500 kingsblood, 250 scales and 125 coal. YES U HEARD ME RIGHT!

Once u are friendly with the throrium brotherhood. Master Smith Burninate will have a new repeatable quest where u turn in 4 Dark Iron residue to increase your reputation. This will take a total of 960 Dark Iron Residue to become honored.

All this for some patterns.. its crazy i know.

Also you can get rep. and patterns in Tanaris at gadget. Just collect loads of Thorium (200+) to get rep. Saves time running around grabbing kingsblood etc..

There is also a Thorium Brotherhood guy up in Everlook in Winterspring but I don't think my faction with them in right for him to speak with me. Everytime I have tryed he just gives me some rude answer about not having time for me. He may also provide some quest later on for gaining faction.

a blacksmith should get to honoured my TB before doing the quests for the imperial set in gadgetzan. when you turn in thorium it will give TB rep and it is hardest to get through honoured because you have to exchange really expensive items from MC for 200 rep each at the TB in the BRD tavern

friendly --> honored
* turn in: 4x dark iron residue
= 25 rep (27.5 for humans) each turn in
= 960x Residue (-10% for humans)

honored --> revered
* turn in: 10x dark iron ore
= 50 rep (55 rep for humans) each turn in
= 2400 ore (-10% for humans)

* turn in 2x core leather
= 150 rep (165 rep for humans) each turn in
= 160 leather (-10% for humans)

* turn in 1x fiery core or 1x lava core or 1x blood of the Mountain
= 200 rep (220 for humans) each turn in
= 60 cores/botm (-10% for humans)

revered --> exalted
same as above except:

4200 ore (-10% for humans)
280 leather (-10% for humans)
105 cores/botm (-10% for humans)

Well, i just got to friendly, and i can say, this part is a lot better than the neutral-friendly part is...cause you have to go BRD, sure, but ull go there a thousand times anyways for quests and nice drops...so, after your friendly this is a piece of cake

I had a bunch of Dark Iron Residue, so I looked at the AH price, hoping it would be something decent. Lowest current price, 100 for 85 silver, less than the vendor value. What a waste. How stupid are people?

can u do the tanaris BS quests and get TB rep from them after u are honored with TB?
Or du u only get TB rep from them when u are Neutral/friendly?

Is the "turn-in-dark-iron-residue" quest alliance only?

This quest is for BOTH Horde and Alliance characters. Thottbot just made a mistake... imagine that!

I don't think Blizzard would make it so that only the Alliance could build their rep with the Thorium Brotherhood and make the Horde miss out on faction rewards such as +22 Int enchant from these guys.

on our server the stuff sells for about 10 gold per 100 residue, but i personaly think that to be very expensve

I know what to do with it, the question is: why? I think the best idea would be explain what the benefits are (if there are any) for each profession. Otherwise, why should people waste their time turning this stuff in?

It's not hard to figure out what to do with it or who to turn it into. Most people just want to know why they should get rep with this group.

This faction provided items and gear for players trying to get into molten core. I ran with a warrior last night who just got the dark iron bracers recipe that run. The real question is, is there anything you can buy from this faction that can't be replaced by equivalent/better gear from outland?

All you need to know about Thorium Bros (rep. reward, history, etc) Not worth grinding rep for it if you get TBC, IMHO. You're better off grinding for Outland faction rep.

You can also gain rep by turning in Thorium Bars for recipes for Imperial Armor at Gadgetzan. 275 a pop.

I agree with skarnska. If you have BC forget about all these factions as the rewards just are not worth the effort. Stick the stuff on the AH for people who don't have the expansion pack!

Here is a MACRO u can USE for turning in REPEATABLE quests.
This does not work very well for the 1st series of quests
unless you are turning in LEATHER.
Just add these lines to a Create Macro and drag the macro to a HOTKEY! much faster than breaking your mouse and ruining ur trigger finger!

Just wanted to say that while the patterns might be less useful then they were pre bc, if you cant see a reason to get
high +str/int/sprit enchants that DO NOT require lvl 35 or higher items then don't bother. If you CAN see why that's friggin awesome then do these ^&*!@ ass quests a billion times and enjoy the goodies. Oh and while it might not be one of the best enchants in WoW, that spirit looks pretty sexy on your priests wep while you're still low =p.

This is used doing the same quest "What the flux quest". The original quest asks for 4 kingsblood 2 scales and a coal. this quest stops when u reach friendly. He then will give you the same quest but instead of kingsblood you need the dark iron residue. That quest will take you all the way to honored at which piont the quest will stop.

Ok, we turn the residue to the guy in Thorium Point and reach Honored status with Thorium Brotherhood... then what? What good is this reputation?

I think that it is turned in to the guy from the thorium brotherhood in the bar in BRD. Once you get honor with them you can buy stuff, I assume blacksmithing patterns. Seems the cheapest way, too- the other stuff they want is like Dark Iron ore, and stuff..

Does he really want 4 residue instead of 4 kingsblood (4 dark iron residue + 2 incendo-scales + 1 coal when you're friendly) or only 4 dark iron residue and nothing else for one reputation increase?

For enchanter example +int or +agi on weapon and +spi, for dragonscale leatherworker get patterns for nice epic boots and so on... The guy you can buy this from is inside BRD.

I have done the What the flux quest, and obtained it at a neutral level with these guys @ Thorium Point. I can't deliver these by any guy at this place. I guess its the guy within BRD. Only a guess though.

The residue is turned in at Thorium Point. You have to have done the What the Flux quest before you can turn it in. In addition, you can only do this quest when you are at Friendly status with the Thorium Brotherhood. Any higher or lower will not allow you to do the quest.

Do you have an abundance of Dark Iron Residue? Did you take a hiatus from Azeroth for the length of an entire xpac or several? Are you a veteran who thought, "I'll just go turn this in to Lokhtos Darkbargainer in BRD and get exalted so I can be a completionist and get all the old recipes!"? Did you go to him only to find out he has nothing for sale and will not accept your Dark Iron Residues in exchange for reputation? So in this dark and dreary reality, where will you turn? Of course the internet! But in the vast sea of knowledge that is the interwebs, you find no solace and are left only to cry in dismay. But wait friend! I have the solution! Go to Thorium Advance ( the road that leads to Badlands - center right hand side of the map). There you will find npcs happily awaiting your arrival with menial low level quests that will keep you busy for hours. Oh no, there's more! They'll have you bee bopping your way from point to point all over Searing Gorge and Blackrock Mountain before you will finally be awarded with the Searing Gorge Quests ach. Then all the hours spent completing tedious quests and risking your sanity will be rewarded and you will be able to turn in all that residue to Master Smith Burninate for reputation.

But by this point you are likely already revered and will still have some left over to hand off to your next alt. Rinse and repeat my friends because who needs a life and friends when we can have completed professions?

If after doing all the quests in the area you still cant see the quest:
Make sure (like me) you weren't already Exalted with Thorium Brotherhood. I had forgotten I turned in cores inside BRD and already maxed the rep.
