In patch 2.4.3, numerous flying non-combat pets have had their flight height modified to no longer skim along the ground. This includes captured firefly, dragonhawk hatchlings, moths, owls, parrots, phoenix hatchling, spirit of summer, sprite darter, and tiny sporebat.

The allies on my server (Burning Legion) love these things. So, if you're horde, a bright idea would be to supply the neutral AH with Dragonhawk Hatchlings, which are then bought by allies who take them to the ally AH at a huge markup. The ally players demand a supply, the horde players can supply the hatchlings (at their own huge markup) and everyone makes lots of money (except the Ally suckers who pay 10-20G for these things in the Ally AH; they lose lots of money).

Then there are those of us who collect the pets just because AND have the money to spend. =)

No, but you can get a Tiny Crimson Whelping which is darker red
