Actually, this quest is really fun;

First: Go at 47.7 in Razorthorn Rise, for those without coords: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/maps=3519:476062
Then kill Razorthorn Flayer and when Razorthorn Flayer Gland drops, use it at a Razorthorn Ravager.
You now have a Razorthorn Ravager under your control. Then use the "find earthroot-ability" at the pet-action bar. The Ravager will automaticly search for nearest earthroot and "unlock" it so you can open it.

After taming the with the , if you are a Hunter, you can use your common hunter abilities (i.e. Bestial Wrath, Intimidation, Mend Pet...) like the ravager was your real pet.

Even if the Ravager pet isn't a demon, warlocks are able to heal them using Health Funnel.

The ravagers bug out a lot and so may end up getting an Evade msg when you try to 'charm' them with the gland. Just make sure that you target one that is already moving around so that you don't get the Evade problem.

Do you have to have a flying mount to do this quest?

have to kill razorthorn flayers lvl 70 and above to get a gland. You throw the gland at Razorthorn Ravenger lvl 70 or above, the RR will become a pet who will help you fight and will dig at the dirt mounds to expose root. watch for people who will let you do all the work. It will expose it for them too!
