It's the rarest blacksmithing plan in the game. The plans sell for 1000g my server but come TBC it will be almost worthless since you can spec 100% to not be disarmed.

I found this recipie off of Elder Mistvale Gorillas in Mistvale Valley in STV
I was not even trying to get it (I did not know it even exsisted until i got it) and it took my between 9 and 10 hours of killing the gorillas...
The drop rate for SM is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY LOW and id say its even lower for things like Elder Mistaves, and this is without doubt one of the hardest to obtain recipies in the game...
Do not auction this item off (the high gold at once may tempt you but DONT!)
Use it... its a virtual gold mine
In less than 2 and a half weeks i made 250g off of tips alone (and another 50-100g from selling the ones i made with my materials)(which imo is excellent expecially for a profession below 250) and i am one of the few if not the only one who posses it on the Ysera Server (Thorandric)...
Point Being its more profitable in the long run to use it than it is to auction the plans themselves (This is a repost of "Steel Weapon Chain")

On another side note the size of your server will affect your income off of this plan (Small; Medium; Large; Full)

I just got this last night, it's the second one i've found after playing the game for a year and a half to two years. I found it in a chest in SM, I found my first one in the cave at Kurzens Compound in STV when I was leveling my first character to 60, gave that one away to a friend, this one i'm keeping so I can make Steel Weapon Chains, i'm a happy camper right now. =)

Wow. I had always wanted this plan, and haven't heard of anyone on my server knowing this plan, but got it off of one of the Maurader Scouts outside of Maraudon. No where near the places listed by WoWHead. Always pays to go back to the old world and farm enchanting and tailoring mats for an alt :)

Too bad I'm on the Mac Client, or else I'd have the addon running.

I found it in a chest in SM Cathedral. I didn't realize it was rare... was still fairly new and a guildie was helping me through. I regularly sell them (the chains) for 20-40G. All depends. If I under value them, no one buys them. I've tried to sell them at 10-15G and no one ever buys them. If I put them in at 50G no one buys them. But at 20-40G I usually sell about 2 per day. No one knows to look for them though.

IMO all tanks should put this on a back up sword for mobs that disarm. That way poor hunters don't pull aggro.

I've been playing since release. That's just a little over three years. I finally got my steel weapon chain pattern yesterday in Stranglethorn Vale. It was in a chest in a troll village, and I didn't even notice what it was in the chat window until I looked to see what I found (I just saw green text.) I had to do a triple-take, and then pinch myself, to make sure I wasn't dreaming. After countless hours of wasted SM farming, I get it on happenstance. I have a strong love-hate relationship with this game.

If anybody needs one of these made/applied, my blacksmith's name is Yllmar. I'm on Uther, Horde-side. I don't play my Warrior that much anymore, so send an in-game mail if I'm not online, or look for Katilton, my Warlock. I'll be happy to fix you up.

Hey, I just got this today from a iron lockbox in SM's lib. I just read through these comments and apparently it was worth quite a lot right? Well should I just sell it (if so, how much; Gul'Dan Server) or drop one of my other profs (215 Chant/ 205 Tailor) and take up BSing?

I have one just bought it on the A.H. in my server {Ravencrest} for 350 gold. It was a hike for me but its been well worth it. The payback on the chains you make are excellent.

I stumbled accross this last night on the AH for 3.5g buyout. And I've sold 5 for 2.5g in about 2 hours of playing time since. This is a serious cash cow. Especially if people who want to use it change weapons. I'd like to thank whoever put it up for a decent buyout.

all you poeple out there giving it away for 2.5g think about it this way: The best weapon enchant atm for a warrior (which is going to be your primary market as they have more use for then them any other class with the exception of rogues) would be crusader (worth about 150g if not more) or your +9 dmg (worth well over 100g). As i said, unless they want to use Deathgrip Guanetlets they are going to prefer this over anything else. Id sell this plan for upwards of 300g and would sell each chain for upwards 50g. At this point people will ask what the mats are for such an expensive enchant. so at this point u tell them its not the mats they are paying for but the rarity of it.

Ive been going back and forth with SM and have had some nice blue drops but the only reason ive continued going there were for the steel chain plans... Just to say i finally got them..Last time i saw them about 8 months ago for 230G BO on AH.... Im about ready to pay for it that way just for my own satisfaction ... any body had any luck recently with finding them?

I seen that someone put the best enchant for a warrior would be crusader or the +9 damage, and put this steel weapon chain right up there with those, well a warrior can become immune to disarming effects if they go down the arms path, which is what I did, and just to let everyone know, it ticks off the horde if your alliance and vice versa, cause there are a lot of people that will try to disarm you right away.

These plans are rare as ****, I don't even remember where I got mine from but I think it was a lucky Need in an SM run. (I've done enough).

In fact on Ravenholdt server I have never come across another set of plans on the Horde side, and also very few other Blacksmiths that can even do it.

Very strange.

Its quite easy to get 15g for a Weapon Chain too, even though the materials cost almost mothing. Sold 3 to the same guy today for 75g.

Even though Mithril Spurs are worth nothing i still need those plans :(

I have farmed SM for these plans as a level 70 Lock and must have dont it at least 200 times and there hasnt been one drop for me :( and the AH hasnt seen these for at least 6 months im starting to wonder if there still in game or a myth!

I just spammed in the trade channel, asking if anyone could make me a chain. I guy answered me in 5 seconds. I gave him the mats for 10 chains, a 10 gold tip and away I went with 10 chains in stock. My toon is a seaoned 70 warrior with 370 skill smithing but I have never come across these plans. But, why worry?. Just have someone make you the chains. Keep extra chains in your bank for when you upgrade your weapon as you are leveling. Just for the record you yourself have to be a smith to apply the chain or else you need to have a smith apply it for you. Simply give the smith the chain then put yuor weapon in the do not trade window and then the smith applies the chain to your weapon. As a tank, I keep multiple identical weapons. One will have a chain applied to it for certain bosses/mobs which disarm and I will switch out the weapon to an identical weapon that has a +20 STR chant applied to it for higher DPS.
Applying this same thinking to my lower 43 rogue, I have 2 identical daggers. One dagger has the chain for fighting the Bloodsail's which love to disarm you and the other has and AGI chant for everyday killing.

Just sold this on Hakkar for 350G in about 15 minutes of being on the AH at 01:55AM wow time. A priest tried to buy it off me for 20G and laughed when I said it was worth more, guess i'm glad I checked this on thottbot before selling it!

Just picked up the plans- saw them in the AH for 9g bid, no buyout... realised a guildie was the seller. Got him to take it out, and paid him 500g for it. Steep, I know, but we only have a couple of Blacksmiths that can do it, as far as I can tell.

FFS they are changing this item in patch 2.3.. it will no longer make u immnue to disarm but instead it will reduce the duration of disarm effects by 50%.. lame! y did they have to go and change it.. its rare enough so i think it should stay the way it is *sigh*

I got um and had it sitting in the bank for 2 months. my guildy guessed that it can be sold for 500g altleast sense its used for pvp. and he was right ironicly. so i put them on AH today and they sold instantly for 550g. they dropped in SM Armory. Woot

I got these off the coast in desolace while questing. an iron lockbox dropped off one of the naga. when i opened it it had these in it. i tried selling in the AH a couple times on dragonblight at 300 bid and 400 buyout and also put it up in the trade channel a bit, but didn't get a sale. i did, however, have several people mail/message me that were interested in the plans. so, i ended up selling to a guy for 200g -- not a record price but pretty easy money.

It's confirmed. They really did nerf it. It sure makes the recipe a lot less valuable. Maybe they will increase the drop rate now...

Worthless now. Previously when it was useful by making immune my BS didn't sell many at all. Rarely do I find in PVP disarm/reposte used and when it is I just stun grenade them and kite till my weapon is effective again. Why Blizzard nerfted this makes no apparent sense and renders this item useless in comparison to enchants. Why some NPC's can be immune to disarm and this plan no longer makes a player immune is a stretch to make the game obserdly unballanced and inconsistant. Like lvl 20 elite NPC's that can knock your lvl 70 down, silence you, dis-arm you, parrie, dodge and crit a lvl 70; but if my lvl 20 character fights an NPC 5 lvl's higher cannot touch it. Very inconsistant and in my opinion very broken. This nerf has rendered the steel weapon chain useless. Blizzard can we get some consistancey here? Make the steel weapon chain worth while. If your going to make it less effective then add stats with it like "Renders dis-arm 50% less effective adds +15 Agility". Why take and not balance it out some? Really this should have been "Immune to disarm adds a useful stat in the 1st place". Maybe Blizzard just wants it to go away.

I agree. Blizzard has greatly nerfed this item. I'm hoping that enough people complain about this and Blizzard listens, but I'm not holding my breath.

However, I did get the plans for the Adamantite Weapon Chain only because I have been getting disarmed in BGs now that everyone knows warriors can be. Plus, I'm thinking that if Blizzard does restore the immune properties to the chains, the cost of the weapon chains will sky rocket through the roof.

the nerf in 2.3 just screwed this item and all the people that paid ridiculous sum's of money for the plans. i found this more useful than any other enchant available, why they had to make it reduce disarm time by 50% i'll never know - if they had made the adamantite chain immune to disarm i could understand it, because then you would have 50% for lower levels and immune for higher levels - but as it is it's fundamentally the same except for the +15 parry which i couldn't give a toss about

You don't need this on your main-hand weapon if you dual-wield. Put it on your off-hand and something nice like Fiery on your main-hand. I only equip this against certain mobs and in PVP, but it's always there in my pack. I put it on an acceptable off-hander I got from a quest at about 40, still use the same one at 60 since it's only for certain uses. Even in PVP I don't always equip it since many rogues don't have riposte and only competent warriors remember to disarm.

On Sunstrider EU realm horde players Satanik or Soulpriest can make them for u. There are at least 2 more (alliance side) that make them on the same server, so drop rate must be awful but not to the point of unique.

Just wanted to post some info about this drop. I noticed that there are some effects and abilities by creatures in Warcraft that will disarm you without actually saying you are disarmed. One of these is an effect that the Bloodhound Mastiff from Blackrock Depths has. It's an effect called Expose Weakness and it acts like a typical disarm. I can confirm that by using a weapon chain, you are immune to the effect. The combat log will not show it as being immune. It will show that you resisted the effect. Just wanted to clarify this.

Yes, the weapon chain does act like a typical enchant so it will overwrite any current enchants you have. Alot of people don't like droping an enchant on their weapon. I personally will never fight without one anymore. You only need it on your main hand weapon. Currently I am using a weapon chain on my main hand weapon and a Demonslaying enchant on my offhand wep. Works great in that first part of Dire Maul. =)

Looks like this is starting to show up more as I see them for sale in the AH on Stormrage. They actually don't sell well at all. Most times I can't even sell them for 2 gold. One time I just started to offer to install some for free just to empty my bank a bit. Even that didn't get rid of any of these. Oh well, that's what you get for playing on a PvE server.

U better believe I'll get rich off this baby. Either I'll sell the recipe for 300+g or i'll sell the "enchants" for 5g a piece. If u happen to have a *uckload of money and u need it eg. for yer endgame guild this is what u want. Read it, it says IMUNITY even if placed on offhand weapon!

i miraculously got mine after 9 short hours of killing elder mistvale gorillas in STV
This is just speculation but im guess no more than 500 people that Play world of warcraft worldwide acutally have that recipie

Also seen ALOT of people asking about if it will work with dual weilders (off-hand)

*Yes it works in off-hand and many of them that i have sold were on peoples off-hand weapons
*If you put it on your off-hand weapon this leaves your main open for something like mongoose or crusader
*Again you only need it on one of your two weapons it will make you immune to disarm on both of them

If you place this offhand you're totally immune to disarm.

I can make them on Kargath - German Server - Horde.
Price is usually 5g for Horde, send ingame mail to Chaos if you need one :).

Just got this on 4/12/05. Seems to be a hard sell as everyone I talked to just wants it for free it seems. Anyway...I don't think 3 gold is a bad price for this installed. <shrug>

I need to go test it out, but I think Blizzard still has a way for you to get disarmed even if you do have this installed. I was fighting something in BRD the other night and I was disarmed. However, it did not show up in my combat log as disarmed...it showed up as "You have been affected by exploit weakness"...or something like that. After this happened I died and went farming in STV for the chain. I'd have to say I made a total effort of 3 months of farming on and off before I got this plan. It's stupid how rare it is.

It would seem to defeat the purpose of going through all the trouble of getting this if in fact you can still be disarmed. Otherwise I guess it's just a PvP item or good for show and tell. I'll try to post some follow up info about this. Otherwise msg me or email me in game if you need one of these...

dropped for me today in the SM graveyard, the chest in the interrogators room.

put it up for 1g open, 200 BO. it went to 45g in the first 10 mins... will come back and post the conclusion tomorrow'

ended up getting 120g for it, a lot of people where pissed that it was so much and thought that I was just "ripping people off"
