Ive recieved 2 in a week this recipe is all to make an item in the game made for pure fun. It sells alot becuase its a super rare drop but once you get it you can actually sell the delights seperately. The fish can be fished in Wailing Caverns, i usually fish for them at the pool right before the portal to enter.

Well here's fun thing, and anyone with two accounts can do this, but farm it on your hordie while you level it, sell it to your alliance alt, slap it up for an ungodly price.

It's kind of stupid though. Once on my hordie I bought out like 5 of them for 50s on Horde AH. I tranfered them to my husband's character and then sold the recipe to the Alliance for 15-20g each. Quite the tidy profit. It's all too easy to profit off of lazy people who don't want to go farm it themselves.

Do your self a favor, go farm it up yourself and don't get ripped off lol.

I don't beleive anyone has mentioned yet that when eaten, this will turn you into a pirate or ninja. So for gnomes you will be able to grow up.

This item is a rare drop that drops anywhere near an oasis. If you have cooking skill of 85 you will surely love this. If alliance finding this is RARE! This sells for about 2 gold peices per stack. Horde usually goes around 1g per stack. Grinding in the barrens is a great way to get these, even you didnt even want the. You can sell them in AH for a roughly 5-7g on my server and they will buy instantly.

One of the best ways to get this item as Alliance is to watch the neutral Auction Houses. Horde who have farmed the recipe (or, more likely, just got it randomly) sometimes sell it in the neutral houses.

For the horde, this recipe sells for a pretty high price.

This recipe turns gray at 165.

I think it took me about 300 fish to go from cooking 85 to 165.

160 - took 8 fish
161 - took 12 fish
162 - took 16 fish
163 - took 20 fish
164 - took 28 fish
165 - took 48 fish

While not the shortest route to leveling cooking, this is in constant demand, and is typically a profitable transaction if the Deviate Fish is purchased at a reasonable price.

On a whim some guildies and I decided to try and get a recipe since one of us had maxed cooking. We flew to Ratchet then went south and nuked pirates. The recipe dropped 10 minutes later, total of maybe 100-120 pirates killed, guess we got lucky!

Farming this item is pretty much the only option for Alliance on my server. The common price now is between 75 and 100g on the AH.

I, however, am very surprised at the comments here, finding three in one day, 10 minutes of farming and a drop. I have not been so lucky, counting tonight I have been farming for 5 days and no luck. Not 5 days straight, no sleep... then I would be mad.

Farmed mine off of the harpies in the north; they have a very fast respawn rate so no down time. Took me an afternoon, and probably 300+ kills, but it did finally drop. Great way to farm linen for an alt, incidentally.

Another option would be to farm the Southsea pirates just south of Ratchet. They respawn even faster than the harpies, and you have the potential to earn goblin rep per kill as well.

I killed 1000-1500 mobs in the barrens. Mainly Harpies and Pirates. This recipe didn't drop at all. Whoever got this drop within 15 minutes is very lucky indeed....

Please. Mind my asking. I fished the yellow deviate and ate the things raw. Different things happened per fish.

So what exactly is the purpose (or usefulness) of cooking this fish???

I think that kind of information is what this recipe entry needs.

There used to be several random effects from savory deviate delights (the cooked version of the fish).

Yaaarrrr (turns you into a pirate)
Flip Out (turns you into a ninja)
Oops (turns you into a pile of goo for 10 sec)
Rapid Cast (50% increase in cast speed for 2 mins)
Cowardice (causes random "Run Away" fear effect for 10 mins)
+50 Rage for warriors, +50 energy for rogues
Fake Death (identical to hunter feign)

Uncooked deviates produce the following effects when eaten:

Party Time! (Makes your char perform random emotes every few seconds like dance, chicken, wave, clap, etc. 2 minutes.)
Sleepy (Makes your char sleep. 30 seconds.)
Shrink (Shrinks your char and reduces Stam and Strength for 8 seconds. 2 minutes.)
Healthy Spirit (Increases spirit by 5. 30 minutes.)
Invigorate (Heals you for 400-600)

About 2 years ago (in patch 1.6)... Blizzard cut out most of the possible effects (of the cooked fish, uncooked remain the same), mainly because the casting speed effect was extremely OP for raid situations, and they left it so that the only possible outcome of eating one is turning into a pirate or a ninja. (disguise effect buff) That's it. 50/50 chance.

I spent about 30 hours farming for this as a 40 gnome rogue about the 2nd month after launch. Was the only alliance with it on my server for at least a month, closer to two iirc. I made a gold mine. I could charge people almost as much just to cook fish for them as I could to catch fish myself and sell them. The most fun was definitely the feign effect, cause I would get that to land in the middle of the AH, and yell something about a horde rogue, and every toon in the IF AH with an AoE would run around for 10 minutes spamming AoEs thinking something had actually killed me, cause since when can a rogue FD? Good times.

Farming this Recipe is very hard. It drops from any mob in The Barrens. i followed the instructions from the comments here and grinded money instead. The Recipe was out in AH for 200G for a long time. Checked everyday and the price got smaller everyday. Bought it for 100G a while ago. The recipe is a pure Goldmine, thats why i bought it. On Haoumarush you can sell 1x 2,5G and x20 25G. You can get this on your first kill or you can get it after a week.

Now, what I did, was promise my high level friend, that when the recipe was going for a very low price(-50g), that if he bought it for me, that I would pay him back in Savory Deviate Delights going at 1g a piece!:) And he agreed to this. So I just waited and waited, and kept checking the auction house(Alliance, by the way), and when I saw a recipe that went for 49g 81s and 36c, I told him, and he rushed over and bought it out, and then gave it to me, I got my cooking skill level up to 85, and paid him back in Savory Deviate Delights!:) So that's my tip for Alliance players who want the recipe. Patience.:)

P.S.: I am selling them at 1g a piece, and they have already paid for the recipe by far!:D

What really baffles me is that people are paying piles of gold for a recipe that doesn't do anything but give you a halloween suit. What's the point? If they hadn't removed the funnier effects of it maybe I'd understand...but as it is it's just stupid. Ninja or Pirate. Period. And why remove ALL the funny effects if it was the casttime buff that was OP?

Yes it does go for ATLEAST 70g on the alliance AH. Farming it in the barrens is time consuming but the rewards are great. I make easily 6g to 8g a stack cooked, 4g to 6g uncooked, no less than 50s per cooked fish (on packed normal server), and fishing it isn't bad, the skill rewards help :P

After almost 20 hours put into farming, and not getting a single drop, I think this has one of the worst drop rates in the game.

I used to farm these out consistently from the same mob over and over again. I would get about 1 for every 30-45 kills. I used one of my rogue and sold two. I haven't tried it in awhile but if you are having problems finding it I will give you two hints: 1) Think level 20 mobs. 2) Think of large lizards. If you figure this out, I really do hope it helps.

Dropped off a lvl 13 Venture Co. Peon in the barrens at coords 57,11. . Thats north barrens. Got lucky was passing by to gather some linen cloth for ffa and practice pickpocketing and luckily that recipe dropped:P

This dropped twice for me while I was running the wailing caverns. I sold each for about 40 - 45 gold. As long as you keep questing in the barrens, you're bound to get at least one, if not two. I guess I just got really lucky there. :)

It took me 1hr and 30min to get this recipe from killing the Harpies in The Barrens. It was pretty easy with my lvl 64 warlock. Still it would be easier for a Mage w/ arcane explosion.

I had the good fortune to find two of these guys while questing in one night. i sold the first one for 90g, and im having trouble selling the other one for more, which it is definitly worth. its a hordeside toon, so i figure the 120g area would be reasonable, but nobody on the server will buy. please respond with any tips/request to buy. name is backrub on server "bloodhoof". thanks.

It's a random drop in the barrens.

The .6% chance to drop from Muck Frenzys is because it shows as only 172 have been killed. Basically anything in the zone has the same chance of dropping it.

I am currently doing quests in the Barrens (level 16) and, while hunting, I got this recipe. I planned on selling it at the AH for 5s or something like that since it seemed useless, but I went to Mulgore before going to Orgrimmar, and, there, I started fishing and cooking. When both skills were at 100, I thought I might as well use the Savory Deviate Delight recipe. I'm glad I didn't sell it. ^_^

Personally, I found that the best place for grinding for this was the pig-man village near the Crossroads. Lots of low-level pigs in a relatively small area. Fast respawn time - by the time I had cleared out one part of the village, pigs had respawned in the other. Other usable stuff from the pigs - linen cloth and low-level green items.

Must have spent some 6-7 hours looking for this recipe until it finally dropped from a Bristleback Thornweaver.

Hello. I think i have something interesting to add to this discussion.

I collect cooking recipes and I'm going to collect as many as i can.
I want 'em all!

As i just turned lvl 47, i found out about this recipe and decided to find the recipe on my own since i didn't have a lot of money to buy it from AH.

After some time of grinding all around the barrens i got more and more eager to find it and my pride stopped me from buying it at AH. My search continued and after a period of at least a month, with "/played this level" (lvl 47) of 2 days 4 hours and 40 minutes (!) i finally found it...

Now, the time above is quite accurate since the first thing i did turning 47 was to start looking, and the only time i spent out of barrens was at IF to sell the stuff i found, and to buy arrows. (I'm a hunter).

I would not recomend anyone to look for it. I nearly stopped playing WoW because of not ever finding it. I'm happy i finally did.

It's definitely worth the money it sells for at AH. If I would have spent the same amount of time in an instance that i spent looking for it i would have collected gold enough to buy multiple recipes now...

Anyway, if you decide to look for it on your own;
Prepare for the worst, don't give up, and Good luck!

For those of you who are selling the actual recipe, DON'T. I'd only sell the recipe if I'd already learned it before. The recipe goes for about 30g-100g easily, but if you learn it and sell the FISH it makes, you could make about 1000g in a matter of days of pure farming. Here's what you do:

1). Farm Plainstriders and Zhevra for the Recipe, since it seems that they have the best drop.
2) Learn Cooking and Fishing. Farm wolves in Silverpine or Swoops in Mulgore for Wolf Meat/Small Eggs to cook to up Cooking to 85, then learn this. Fish in Orgrimmar until level 50
3) Go to the Lushwater Oasis (Wailing Caverns Oasis) and farm there for Deviate Fishes, since that place has the best drops.
4) Cook Deviate Fishes, sell a stack of them for whatever your server price is going for, and then some.
5) Rinse and repeat steps 3 and 4.
6) Be massivly rich in a matter of days and buy your epic mount with ease.
7) Laugh because your guildees are poor while your raking in 1000g a week, and then some.

Get this. I have been spamming trade channel for 3 days now trying to get this recipe.
I gave up on that.
Then I went to the barrens and started farming the kolkars outside WC.
857 kills later and nothing.
Then my brother walks in and I say, "If you farm these until this recipe drops I will give you 50g."
He sits down as I turn to watch some tv and goes and loots the very last kolkar *I* had killed.
Guess what is there...the recipe.
No joke.
He did nothing but walk 10 yards and loot.

Eating a deviate fish will have a random effect on your character. Possible effects include:

* Healthy Spirit - increases your character's spirit by 5 points for 30 minutes.
* Invigorate - instantly heals your character for about 450 points.
* Party Time! - a debuff that causes the character to perform random emotes for 2 minutes. Your character will /clap, /cheer, /chicken, /lol, or /dance every 10-15 seconds, possibly interrupting spells or other actions.
* Rejuvenation - rank 4 of the druid buff by the same name, heals your character by 45 points every 3 seconds for 12 seconds.
* Shrink - a debuff that reduces your character's apparent size, as well as their strength and stamina, for 2 minutes.
* Sleepy - a debuff that stuns your character for 30 seconds. You cannot perform any actions while stunned.

Eating a savory deviate delight will also have a random effect on your character, but the effects are different from those caused by the raw fish. Possible effects include:

* Flip Out - a buff that turns your character into a ninja for 60 minutes. A ninja in this case is a human dressed entirely in black with a black bandana across its face.
* Yaaarrrr - a buff that turns your character into a pirate for 60 minutes. A pirate in this case is a human dressed in pirate's clothing.

If you are a Druid or Shaman, you will lose these effects when you change forms. Priests also lose the effect when using Shadowform.

Note that certain emotes change when you are under Flip Out or Yaaarrrr. For example, /cry, /laugh, /cheer, /chicken, /yawn, /train, /silly and /sigh all sound like the human versions.

This Recipe is one of my favorites, I just got it today. But, I would also like to add that this recipe pisses me off more than any other item in the game. The drop rate is horrible, as I spent 4 Hours farming it in the barrens at level 70. in the time i farmed it i could have made 200g and bought 4 of this recipe.

But, I will say that when i saw this on the corpse of a barrens Giraffe I erupted with a happiness i cannot express.

in short, if you are farming this, make sure you have great patience, persistence, and pray that luck is on your side.

I tried farming this for a while and just gave up. It was up in the AH for around 30G at the time. I thought I'd just try my luck putting a message out in the Barrens Chat and ask if I could buy it off of someone who had gotten it. I figured there might be someone who either didn't know its worth or who wasn't aware of the current AH value. Turns out I was right, I bought it from someone who sold it for 10G, a mere 1/3 of the AH price.

I recommend trying this if you've started tearing your hair out over farming this recipe. There are always tons of people in the Barrens and there's a good chance that someone's gotten the recipe to drop recently while questing. Just remember to be really friendly about it and if they ask for an offer, start relatively low in case they don't know the recipe's real worth.

I was also surprised by the ease with which this food sells on the AH. I sold several of these in stacks of two for a 1G 10s and they were all gone within a couple of hours. The recipe is totally worth buying if you can get it at a price lower than the AH price, especially if you have the patience to fish for long periods.

Spent 4 days grinding the Razormanes before giving up and deciding to buy this on AH. On my way back to Ratchet I passed a giraffe and killed it just for the hell of it. Guess what dropped! Not helpful or constructive, but I really had to tell someone.

Some statistics for you:

The overall drop rate for the recipe across all beasts in Barrens is just about 0.05%. That means you have about a 50% chance of getting 1 recipe in 2000 kills and a 75% chance of getting it in 4000 kills.

It also means that about one player in 2000 will get it on the first try.

The highest drop rates I found were the Barrens Giraffe with a 1/667 drop rate, followed by Savannah Huntress at 1/1000 and Razormane Water Seekers with 1/1200.

The common kills with the lowest drop rate were Plainstriders with 0.02% or 1/5000.

The Razormanes in Thorn Hill east of Crossroads average about .05% but are a quick kill, rez quickly and there are lots of them nearby, so they probably are the group offering the shortest drop time, but expect lots and lots of killing, going around the circuit maybe 200 times, killing ~30 per circuit, with lots of trips to town to empty your bags.

It's a very rare drop from almost every mob in the barrens, I got a drop once from one of the Hyenas, It aggroed on me while I was walking past and was I suprised when I killed it.

Price ranges purely on the demand on every server.

Today I found one in the Auction House for about 10 Silver, My head nearly exploded. I bought it and put it back in for 59g 99s 95c. Sold in about 3 hours.

Average Price (guessing, depends on demand):

Lowest: 10 - 15g
Average: 23 - 30g
Highest: 37 - 60g

On my server Jubei-thos they are very expensive, 60 - 100 gold.

This Recipe is used to make Savory Deviate Delight, which when consumed, turns the user into either a Pirate or a Ninja (both Morphs are Human) for 1 hour.

IMO I would say to go Inside of Wailing Caverns and go to the huge Pool of water b4 You go inside of the instance to farm for the Deviate Fish FOR the recipe... Once you Have the Recipe you need the fish to make... I took the peoples advice to go to Lushwater Oasis and fished there (fishing lv 110) after 2 hours I only had like 6... BS!

I asked my guild and they said to go farm for them INSIDE OF WAILING CAVERNS and I had 2 stacks within 1 hour!

I hope this info helps... I would recemend a 30+ toon to farm for these so you wont have to worry about being killed by mobs have fun and GL

On my lvl 16 blood elf rogue, I logged in in the middle of one of the oasis's, aggro'd a hyena by doing so, killed it, and got the recepie. I was quite shocked, let me tell you.

I wasn't even HUNTING for it and I got it. XD

i was at thorn hill in barrens close to xroads and im an alliance mage lvl 32 so i pulled big groups of the pig men i got over 150 linen cloth about 10 greens and it dropped in a little less than an hour, i highly recommend this place if u want it

The best summary of this seems to be that the most efficient way to farm this is on the pig men and this has been confirmed by several very good posts on this thread, or:

If you already make more than say 20 gold per hour playing, it makes no sense to farm it, buy it on auction house and go do something else than pick on the poor pig men.

as off 14th June 2008 this took me 3hours and 30mins to grind. on 46 rogue alt. Killed basically pig men south of crossroads on both sides of barrens. then moved up to pigmen east of crossroads. razormane water seeker droped it. This was a long and tiresome grind, thank god for duel screens and dvds. But when it droped i was so pleased! also i got like 50 greens to sell or use on lowbies. so GL guys

This dropped for me off a lvl 11 Razormane in the Barrens, by the Gold Road. I'm so happy! Sure neither my fishing nor cooking skills are high enough to make this or fish the ingredient, but I'm saving it for later, much later.

If you think farming this recipe is a pain, try farming the schematic for the flame deflector. It has a drop rate of 0.36% and the only mob that drops it is Thermaplug! You'll get deviate delight, lifesteal and crusader recipes (all three) long before you ever see flame deflector! You will have great grand children before you have it! The world will end before you have it! Mawahahahaha!

We'll, i think it's never gonna drop for me...
Anyway, i found a weird mob yesterday while killing cats. I was NW of Ratchet, at a tree where a lot of Savannah Matriarchs and Patriarchs are and after a while, an level 23 elite cat (humar the Pridelord or something...) respawned... It didn't drop the recipe anyway! ^^

Tip is to kill any rares or elites cause almost every mob in Barrens has drops for this. I killed about 20 Venture Co. Drudgers before I got mine.

I got this off a low level while I was in Barrens a while back. It sold for 30g, cause my servers cheap, but it helped me get my mount money ^^. Yay me. I just wish I could've gotten more from it. Or get another on my mage. Hehehe

Getting no joy framing it and Alliance AH wanted 25g .. I decided the quickest way to get one was to go to a Horde Main City, see how much it was in Horde AH for buyout and then offer anyone that had it 15g if they put it up for sale on Booty Bay AH.. And someone did, as can't talk to Horde when on Alliance we agreed that Horde guy would wave at me when he arrived and laugh when he was about to put it on.. Worked a treat, bought it on buyout and everyone was a winner :-)

Sigh, a vary hard drop. It toke me 5 days (30+ hours) of no drops. Than today some player invited me to a party to help kill Razormanes. About the 20th kill there it drop; im like... DUDE PLEASE PASS THE RECIPE! And thats that. The good thing about it all is that I got some great gear drops to sell (it was so much I have some give way to low lvl players) and learned to make Elixir of Giant Growth (drop 3x times) Its crazy how much it cost at AH 100g was 50g. >.>

-Fear (you get feared and run around for 5 sedonds and then have the fear icon where your buffs

After the initial fear, it can randomly kick in again anytime during the ten minutes.

The deviate fish can be fished up in wailing caverns. You can even fish them in the instance. Thats the smart way to do it so no alliance will gank you while you are fishing. Because they like to fish in there too for the deviate fish.

They can be fished up in any of the waters of the Barrens.

I havnt found it yet, but there is an elite in the barrens that this site doesnt list whom supposedly has a 3.9% chance to drop it....his name is swinegart spearhide....hes a 22 elite in the razormane grounds above camp t....i saw this on thottbot....

On new servers, because of the ecnomomy, these recipes regularly sell for only 2-5g early on. If you powerlevel ahead of other players, you'll be able to easily buy these up left and right. Wait a couple of months, and bam, they go for 40-60g!

This recepie is very hard to obtain for players on the alliance side. If you are playing horde put this in the auction house in Gatzetan. I am currently selling them for 20g on my server.

Players who have reached lvl 60 get bored and start looking for some fun stuff to do. This is one of those. (and we all know lvl 60's have way too much cash to spare)

I play on European servers so even though most people arnt lvl 60 by far it brings in good cash.

I heard rumors of this selling for 50g but I cant confirm that.

I just bought this in the AH on Shadowsong the other day for 3 gold (it normally sells for about 25-35).

Then I did a little fishing, made up a few small batches and put them up for sale. About an hour later, I had the original 3 gold back and an extra 17 besides. :D

I need to go fishing again.

I saw one of these recipies in AH (Doomhammer - Horde side) one night for 10g bid 20g buyout with just 2h left and I tought, Nice! I'll place a bid before I log off. Then I forgot to bid :(

The day after that I saw one again for 50s bid and 75s buyout : D

I've been looking for this for a few days with my lvl 29 NE Hunter and I couldn't find it I went all around the barrens looking, then today I log into my undead mage and look at the aunction house and theres three one for 4 gold, one for 13 silver,and one for 1 silver. Taked to the guy who owned both of the
cheap ones and got him to put it on the auction in booty bay and get it with my Hunter.

I found 2 of these in 2 days lol.

I used the first one since I am cooking (lv 23 war Rivandare) and then was cleaning out my quest log of the greens last night and on my last mob out of the quest area, he said, "Oh I am slain! Take this! I was going to read it later, but heck, I'm dead now...so you have it!"

And now I have a recipe that will grow in amazing price within a month. XD

This is a fun recipe.

It's not for combat, but it's fun at parties!

When you eat it, it has random effects. Here is a list of everything it has done so far for me. (I've eaten about 40 of em so far)

- Illusion of a human pirate (you really look like a pirate for 1 hour!)
-Illusion of a human ninja for 1 hour
-Illusion of a green ooze for only about 10 seconds
-Fake Death (just like a hunter) lasts for about 1 minute or until you move
-Instant 20-40 Rage (for anyone who has rage)
-Fast Casting (for 60 seconds, all spells you cast only take half the time to cast)
-Fear (you get feared and run around for 5 sedonds and then have the fear icon where your buffs are for 10 minutes, but I haven't noticed it do anything after you stop running around)
-Nothing (every once and a while, it doesn't do anything when you eat it.)

It only takes one deviate fish and one mild spice to cook per piece of deviate delight.

farmed it once for 10 mins and got bored and got entertained in doing some wall jumping.

Then after motivating myself and preparing myself for a night farming, got to the abrrens and got in on the 2 mob on this random hyena. My guild flamed me for being one lucky sob :D.

Ive had most of my success finding this recipe off of the tigers in the barrens, also some of the kolkar's in the area have a good chance to drop also. I would focus on the tigers if u want to get the recipe for urself or to sell. I found 2 within a few hours of each others while killing the tigers

I've bought these in the Horde AH from 40s to 30g. I've collected 7 of them total. I've since sold for of them back on the Blackwater AH for no less than 140g each. Sometimes it takes a few days of putting it up but it almost always goes within 3 days.

Here is some statistics.

The stats say that you got 0,03% chance of getting it. But lets say you are smart and you do a run where you kill of some elites while you are at it thus raising your chance to 0,04%...we are optimistical.

Do you feel lucky now? Well let's say you do feel lucky and you think that if you had a 33% chanse of success you'd deffo make it.

Well go at it...kill 1000 enemies and you'll have approximatly 1/3 chance of getting the recipe.

You want better odds? You reach 50% at 1733 and 75% at 3466 slain mobs.

Here is a small table, just for the fun of it where we say you kill 1 mob every 40 sec with looting...we are optimists...right?

1% = 26 kills = 16 minutes
10% = 264 kills = 175 minutes or almost three hours
25% = 720 kills = 480 minutes or 8 hours
50% = 1733 kills = 1155 minutes or 19 hours and 15 min
75% = 3466 kills = 38 hours and 30 min
90% = 5756 kills = 64 hours

Another way to see it is that if you spend 24 hours straight killing a mob every 40 sec you'll have 58% chance of getting it making an income of 7,5 gold/hour.

But then again...you might get lucky....someone have to find them ;) Go for it!

I was in my PvP phase, meaning my character had recently hit a level ending in a 9. I recently stumbled across this whole "savory deviate delight" thing, and just today--no, less than half an hour ago--decided to make a habit out of killing everything I see in the Barrens, just in case.

So I run up to Warsong camp to buy my new Advisor's staff, spend ten minutes killing on the way back, and while I'm thinking about it, voilà--there's the recipe.

Got this yesterday killing Razormanes with Horde Hunter at lvl 13.
Alomost FAINTED, I always get crap drops, or lose the roll.
At least I can make some cash off these things,(I'll make more using the recipe than selling it) since I have no alt on Blackwater Raiders I'm broke.
