Note that the enemy mob you control can also attack other enemy mobs - therefore, in tricky situations, not only do you have one less enemy to deal with, you get a temporary ally to fight for you!

You can controll almost any mechanical NPC with this. I controlled the boss in Dead Mine with this, Fel Reavers in Hellfire Peninsula, the elite mobs in the far north-east.

Have fun controlling mobs and running havoc with this sweet trinket, watch out when it backfires though!

ps. The Fel Reavers hit very hard :p

I made one of these and couldn't get the dang thing to work after many trys so I destroyed it, then read about how people were controling all kinds of things and having a blast so I made another and still had no luck and never controlled any mechs (the reavers in westfall) so I destroyed it again. After reading this page I'm thinking of giving it one last try, lets hope for the best.

I can confirm after five tries (and deaths) that the Fel Reaver is now immune to this device. Too bad...

Heres a small list of those which i have tested can / cannot be controled, as of 2.1.3

Fel Reaver (Hellfire) - Immune
Fel Reaver (Near Kazzak) - Immune
Fel Reaver Sentry (Abyssal Shelf - Hellfire) - Immune
Doomwalker (Shadowmoon) - Immune
Tempest-Forge Patroller (Mech) - Immune to Control (not immune to root / threat)
Fel Cannon (Abyssal Shelf - Hellfire) - Not Immune, but only has a weak melee so useless
Fel Cannon MKI (Hellifre) - Not Immune
Toshley Flying Machine ( Blade's Edge) - Not Immune, Horde only i guess, have to fly in land at a spot where you are in range then use before they fire at you

Basically the device can be fun and at lower level usefull but most high level usefull stuff is immune, it also has a resonably high backfire chance.

This is now my favorite trinket.

I can tell you now after some testing that there is almost no mechanical unit in the game, from the Curator to Void Reaver, that is immune to this trinket, at least the mind control aspect of it. The reason that many people get an "immune" message when using it is because it has a chance to instead of MCing the target, root it in place. this causes an immune message for most things, because the fun stuff to mind control, like Fel Reavers, are immune to CC and root spells.

The large robots in Arcatraz (the ones you find half-broken) are not immune to this. Be sure you pull them before using it, however, or you end up controlling a dormant bot, which is no use.
This was VERY useful back when Arcatraz had the double bot pull... not so much now that it has been nerfed.

This is rediculous! I finally get my hands on one of these just to find out that its one of the most useless items for engineers at high levels! Most (if not all) of the useful mechs to control are immune to at least one of the effects this thing causes.

I dont see why Fel Reavers were made immune to it. Surely not everyone would take control of one to send it into the other faction's base in HFP.

What else is useful for a high level engineer? The Goblin Rocket Launcher stuns you for just as long as your target, the Gnomish Poyltriser turns your target into a chicken that can still kick your ass if its a strong opponent. The best thing is the FLying Machine thats still in the works & the goggles, IMO.

Made one at level 10, never worked for me until level 15, now it has like a 85%, at level 18 I hacked Sneed's Shredder first try. But Sneed's Shredder doesn't count as a real boss, hes like a mini boss, the real boss is Sneed, he cannot be mind controlled.

It works on the final boss in Gnomeragan, allowing the rest of your party to disarm the bombs.

Seems bugged for most mechanical units as taking control of them results in all other units fading away from view on screen even though they are still there. Better hope what you took has an AOE spell.

For all you horde players that think you can't get it. Just buy it from Jinky Twizzlefixxit a vendor in Shimmering Flats area of Thousand Needles. I beleive its a limited supply item so you might have to come back if someone has purchased it recently. Vendor is at the race track obviously.

...this is why you were ambushed by about 10-15 mobs. The alarm sentry will summon about 5 mobs if you let it scream three times. Pack a shaman to use Earth Shock or his strongest Shock on the alarm bot to kill it instantly.

Regarding the remote, this is a gift from God in Gnomeregan. If you are a tank, THIS IS A MIRACLE. This will make mobs stick to you like glue. The aggro will never be taken off you. However for the Priest engineer this really isn't a good thing to have fail. It has a two minute cooldown- tiny in comparison- Should you succeed, you will either root the target making it unable to move for an unknown amount of time, or, you will dominate the target and take control of it for a full minute. This will theoretically sheep a target, removing it from combat, but also making it so it does damage to enemy targets! A fantastic little device for a small engineering skill and relatively small cost. The one problem with this is that when the duration ends, you will have infinite aggro of that mob on the user, so if you're in Gnomeregan, use it on a mob that's about to die so you can kill it quickly when it comes out of it's stupor. For all other mechanical targets, this is a handy little device that shows the true power an Engineer can wield.

I have used this a bit, really like it since the chance of control is actually quite a bit. I'll point out the pros and cons about this one:

Pros:
*You can take control of a unit in the middle of a group and pull heavy aggro with it.
*You can take control of even mechanical bosses and fool around while the rest of the team members take it easy, heal and charge mana, best of all....it seems the mechanical units don't even heal!

Cons:
*Mostly just usable/fun in Gnomeregan
*If you have a pet/demon you must dismiss them first.

I myself took control of the boss in Gnomeregan while my party healed and charged mana :D I seem to have no trouble gaining control for longer periods of time so I use it with certainty.

i've tried it many time on westfall harvestors (only mechanical enemy i can really find) and even the mechanical boss in Dead Mines and at most it immobilizes them instead of crontrolling them, its never completely worked for me.

you can only use on targets that are'nt CONTROLED by some1/smething and harvest watchers are immume

I used this in Stonetalon mountians a lot and it only rooted once. It is fun but otherwise not esxtremely useful.

For the quest to take out the two shredders is proved to be wonderful though. Just take control of one and send it to kill off a logger or two and by then it is damaged enough for you to take out easily.

One time I tried it just for fun and it rooted the shredder and made it pretty upset with me. But sprint and vanish and that was all she wrote

You can also get it in Terran Mills at the golblin with the harvester. he wonders so just set at TM until he arrives. Seem to have it more than the racetrack guy

I tried this a while ago on such a Fel Reaver. The experiment ended with the Fel Reaver being immune to it and crushed me.

Is it just me, or did anyone else pick an engineer just so they can have a trinket and headpiece at level 10? Heck, my level 36 still doesn't have a trinket...

This thing is great when your at sneed's shredder in the deadmines. If it works on the shredder, you can use it to completely clear out the room of all the goblins...even though if it doesn't work your party's pretty much screwed

I had a major problem using this trinket in gnomer. What would happen is when we attacked a group that had say, 2 elites and 4 non-elites, we would only attack basically both elites (no AOE as well which might be important). What would happen is I would then use the remote on one of the elites and then the 4 non-elites would immediately turn their attacks on me. Two hits later and ive lost control and now im under attack by an elite and 4 nons. I was using a rogue so... you know how the rest went (thank god for vanish).

Now what I need to figure out is, as a non-tank in the run, does someone need to at least AOE once in order to make sure everyone is feeling threatened by at least one person other then the operson wanting to use the trinket? I also tried to open up with the trinket (attack a non-aggroed mob) and basically the same problem happened; I got control of the robot, non-elites and everyone else attacked me, i lose control, vanish to stay alive.

i got level 10 on my gnome warlock with engineering .. lvled the engineering to 130 and decided to get this, - i built it, and decided to try it out at the harvest golems at westfall. Nothing happens, no 'immune' message, no stun, just a yellow sparkle and 'Entering Combat', as i run away getting chased by some angry robot...

This ofc, was only in my 6 first tries, i will keep on experimenting with it until it works

I've tried this thing on the harvesters in Westfall numerous times, but it has NEVER worked properly for me. I'd say out of AT LEAST 20 tries, I've rooted the machine about 5 or 6 times. Every other time it simply agros.

On that note, it's a really handy device if a vulnerable member of your party is being chased by a mech.

This thing is very useful I am Lvl28 and I made One of these at LVL20.It has a chance to controll all mechanic units.I have captured the Sredder boss in the Deadmines with it.Some say you cannat do anything with the controlled units but I could.I have attacked the goblins around the sredder and killed 3of them than I lost controll,but it was fun:P

Very fun to mess around with, but unfortunately, I rarely find mechanical units I have to deal with. Nice to keep on you, but sometimes it just holds up a spot in your bags.

In AV some horde got the goblin shrdder and i had a couple of these and mced the shrdder.They kept it near the priests to protect them.When they died u could almsot read them saying wtf our priests go.....

You can use these in hell fire peninsula to control fel reavers. Its so addicting to do, but if they resist, or some are immune, they one hit u lol. So make sure you aren't wearing any gear. Also works on those annoying cannons, and lots of other mechs. A really insane trinket.The fel reaver was average hitting 1.2k's on mobs that I fought.

It's funny. Everyone I've seen talk about this says it's a fun little toy, but has no practical use. Let me tell you, if you're in a group of 5 level 30s in Gnomeregan, this can get you through the harder parts of the instance. From my experience, it has about a 75% success rate, and it's only caused the machine to get really angry once or twice out of all my uses of it (which is quite a bit). Like I said, a GREAT help in the second half of Gnomeregan, but I can't say I can think of much other use for it.

On a side note, if you've never played a Hunter, you get to experience the thrill of taking complete control of another creature. Each machine has its own special ailities that you can play with too, which allows 3 things: (1) you get to tun its abilities on its buddies, (2) you san waste the abilities if they have long cooldowns right before you lose control of it, and (3) you get to see what it's capable of, letting you better prepare to fight it and future versions. My favorite "pet" is the Mechano-Flamestrider, with its FlameNova and Flamethrower-style attack.

Made one and also tested it on the harvest watchers in westfall, seemed to work 3/10 times and the times it did work it would just freeze them. I destroyed my remote shorty after.

I may make another in the furture and give it another shot.

I bought the schematics for this thing from a Merchant for around 19s.
After making it, I joined a party in Gnomeregan to test it out on some of the mech mobs there. The good news was that it has a good success rate, that bad news is that if you already have a pet; you'll only get a message "You already have control over a creature" or something along the lines of that.

However, the remote can also immobilize mechanical enemies; which saved my party numerous times.

Overall, I was disappointed that it's pretty much worthless for hunters; but it's still a great tool for non-Hunters and non-Warlocks. Plus it's a great toy. :)

You can not use it on anything mech =(. Useful in Gnome though for a short time.

I was grinding dust devils in westfall when i decided that i should get out my engineer and try out the remote since for some reason i never did for the 10 or so lvls since i made one.

This thing is a blast! There's just something fun about using this to pit things against eachother.
However, it has a rather short distance you can walk around in, and the thing you controlled will come back after you when it's released and anything it was fighting will also come after you.

Also it has a 3 min cooldown, which isn't too bad.

If you've ever played a hunter, using this is like using Eyes of the Beast, just with a much shorter range... you can go a little over how far a hunter can shoot i think.

used this thing 15 times on the harvest golems in westfall and nothing, i got an immune message from 1 of the golems and the others just had a sparkly animation, then walked over to start punching me in the face.

will continue testing.

17th use an immobilisation. (mob 3 levels lower than me)
21st use another immobilisation (~15 seconds root)

tested it another 35 times got 6 more roots, wasnt able to ever control one its kind of a $%^&ty trinket tbh.
