Worked the Bloodsailors for three days, a couple hours each day before I found my beauty. They make for good grinding if you're so inclined. Got many greens, 4 blues, 2 epics and lots of rum. Also found another treasure, my First Mate Hat.

I found one on the AH for 35 silver. I debated whether to sell it or not but I never found another on Windrunner to buy so I bound it. That's the only reason I've not deleted that toon.
Much easier to get lucky on the AH than to get lucky with a drop. I've farmed bloodsail for over a year off and on with no drops.

As a 70 rogue, I farmed this for 7 1/2 hours straight yesterday, and killed about 2,300 pirates, with no drop. I've farmed for another 2 hours today, but still no luck.
It's pretty maddening killing all the pirates. I recommend keeping an eye on the AH (especially the neutral AH), and hoping to see it up there for a cheap price.

I was grinding outside of booty bay for a few levels, only because it was easy killing. I didn't realize the worth of this bird until I used it to complete my "pirate suit" as I ate a deviate delight. My friend said "that bird is pretty, what's it called?" I checked WoWhead, and lo and behold I just realized I could have sold this for a lot of gold. Even though, it's really awesome knowing you have one of the rarest pets in the game.

Had one of these drop while farming for the First Mate's Hat. I killed maybe 50 pirates. I knew it was rare, but not this rare. There was a First Mate's Hat on the AH for 500g which I was going to try and trade for. But I put the bird up for 1000g buyout just to see. It sold in about 20 seconds. Just goes to show, it never hurts to try!

In patch 2.4.3, numerous flying non-combat pets have had their flight height modified to no longer skim along the ground. This includes captured firefly, dragonhawk hatchlings, moths, owls, parrots, phoenix hatchling, spirit of summer, sprite darter, and tiny sporebat.

This pet is easily the rarest in the game. Easily.

I've been (mage) AoE farming the pirates for the last few nights, doing each full boat at a time, with about 2 minutes between each. Killed several thousand, but just in case I've always checked the auction house to see if a bird was in there for a reasonable price.

And tonight, among the 20 Green Wing Macaws, was a Hyacinth... with 1 gold buyout. 30 shakiest seconds of WoW I've ever had waiting for that auction to confirm.

The moral: It's a huge pain to farm, and you may never get one, but you may get lucky with some clueless level 30 who doesn't check sites like this.

I initially tried selling this on AH for like 5g... I knew it was rare drop... But obviously not that rare. Nobody bought, so I figured why not see what it looks like. I did, I was amazed! I love this pet. I hate keeping more than one pet, and this is the one I chose to take everywhere. All bloodsails in STV drop them, but yes it is insanely rare that they drop. Those who think this is the rarest pet in the game, YOUR RIGHT! Who needs Blizz promo pets, when you can get one that even fewer people have.

This parrot is Blue and Teal with Purple tipped feathers, and a yellow stripe along the wingspan. It is easily the most evil looking parrot available. Those dragonlings are nothing compared to this pet.

To those of you willing to farm it, good luck, and treasure it!

Yeah... I was going to gain faction with the Bloodsail Buccaneers. Then realizing how much rep I needed I quickly changed my mind and went to get my Bootybay rep back... I was pretty bummed that I couldnt get my Bloodparrot untill... I killed Fleet Master Firillon and the parrot cage dropped. Haha, I was so happy... Uhh yeah just thought I would share that story. The bird is on par with an epic item (Drop % wise) so if you get it dont sell it but rather equip it. 100G is nice but being one of the few people on your server to have one is even better. :)

Using the data given above as of this writing on 2/20/2007, the five lower level mobs shown above to drop the parrot have been killed a total of 391,531 times, dropping it only 29 of those. Simple math lead to the following calculation:

391531 / 29 = 13,501.068965517241 = 13,502

So, given that the data above is correct, this the Hyacinth Macaw drops 1 time for approximately every 13,500 level 40-43 Bloodsails killed on average, or at a .00007406820915841% drop rate, to be precise.

In short, it's quite a rare pet. :)

My boyfriend FINALLY got the pet! and he surprised me with it too!

I didn't feel like playing wow today, and he was trying really hard to get me to play. 'Meg, come run an instance with me!' and i really didn't feel like doing it, we even ended up arguing a little over it, hehe! i felt bad, so i finally got on, and he was like 'hey meg.. whats that on your top right action bar?' and there.. i saw the icon for a parrot.. i immediately started shaking and screeching for joy! he logged on my account and put it there for me! awww! how sweet! <33 I'm so excited! i looove my widdle burple! <33 (thats what i've named him. :3 i name all my pets.. like my emerald whelp, Booger!)

it took him around 2 weeks to farm, and thats almost nonstop. he farmed hours on end each night and day and finally got it this morning! hooray!

Been farming this thing for weeks, because I didn't have the gold to buy one off AH for 700-1000g. Never did drop. Today I saw one on AH for 300g, and since I wasted so much time on it that I now have MUCH more gold than before, I just bought it. Much easier than waiting for the drop. However, if anyone is interested in buying 50 bottles of Volatile Rum, let me know.

I lucked out TWICE in getting this pet....bought 2 of them on auction, about 2 months apart...first one for 15 silver and second one for 5 silver. I think people didn't realize what the pet was or thought it was just as common as the green wing macaw that usually DOES sell for those prices...a very nice, lucky find for me twice. :) I will be selling the 2nd one but keeping the first for myself as a pet collector. :)

Hunting for this awesome thing for over a week now...aoe-ed all three ships at least thousand times, killed every single mob that spawned in front of me all over the area ... no drop. Then noticed one at AH for 450g ... quite a lot of money, but even with a strong wish to get my own for free and even if i spend the rest of my life there in STV, bought it. Then continued farming for the next few days, same methods, billions of pirates dead again, no drop. And then, the most idiotic thing about all this story: I equiped it on my lvl 25 alt that i probably won't play ever again cause it's boring (planned that will be my main, but few minutes later noticed it's not worth it) .... Well, so much about the PARROT!

I had been farming this little parrot for a long time now and it was on the AH for a while for over 1000g but there was no way i wanted to fork out that much for a parrot. I logged on today and saw some guy with a Bid only for 5g and I got so excited but it was up for 12hrs so i pst him and asked him to cancel it and i'd buy it straight from him, i felt bad so i gave him 10g plus his deposit. So now i have this beautiful parrot for my collection of pets (which my bf hates) Now all i need its the disgusting ooze - should be fun farming

Lucky I checked this thread! I had one while questing and didn't know the value. Auctioneer didn't have a clue and so I searched.

I advertised it on my server (EU:Burning Steppes) at 600G with 800G buyout. I advertised in the Trade Channel and the bird was bought within 2 minutes (I kid you not) at the buyout price.

And the really cool bit? This was at 3:30 in the afternoon. The server hadn't even got busy yet!

Hmmm. Maybe I should have hung out for more? Nah! I'm happy ;)

The one bad thing about this bird is trying to sell it, cause people accuse you of scam every 2 seconds! Everyone reads "parrot cage" and "macaw", but for some reason they assume "hyacinth" is "green", and people tell you "that's about 30s in AH" or "you are one of those idiots who overprice things!"...

This dropped on my alt last sunday.
I was questing in STV and my first kill was this pet.
To my thinking I looked up many sites on how much this was.
My server is top ranked pvp server(tichondrius) and thought "why not, ill raise the price." I made the bid start at 350g and buyout at 478g. The day ended and once I woke up the next day I have recieved mail from the auction house. I have recieved 478g easily.

I was farming for this for about one week. I believe for 10-15 hours. First on the ships but those seemed to have a kinda lower drop rate so I moved to the bloodsail compound and got it there in about 5-6 hours of farming. It dropped from a level 43 Bloodsail Swashbuckler (as you can see in the screenshot of course :P). I killed 360 of them and I used 'MobInfo-2 (includes MobHealth)' as my body counter. ;)

Math is a little off, it's a .01% to drop, so one hundredth of one percent.

so...
1 = .0001 drop
10 = .001 drop
100 = .01 drop
1000 = .1 drop
10000 = 1 drop

I just got one on Skywall last night.. I heard these things sell for more like 1200g given 'all the gold coming out of Outland' and their rarity and all. Contrary to the folk trying to pass them off as 5g useless pets.

You folk selling so cheap should hold out more. ;)

Anyhow.. enough gold to buy my mounts, riding training, and tailoring/enchanting mats or extremely rare parrot that doesn't do anything but look cool? Parrot, me thinks.. Garr!

All the research I've don on this parrot seems to indicate the following:

This is the rarest vanity pet in all of the WOW universe that does not bind on pick up.

This fact makes this parrot the most valuable vanity pet of them all since it can be sold to other players. One factor to consider is the perceived value of any rare item. To most people, vanity pets have no real value since they perceive them as useless novelty items. There are however just a few of us who perceive extremely rare vanity pets as having a very high economic value, simply because we become one of the very few to posses something that is extremely rare.

That being said, it may prove extremely difficult to sell this item even for 20 or 50 gold to 99.99% of the WOW population. You must find that .01% in the population who are willing to pay hundreds of gold. Buyers for this item are just as rare as the item itself, but don't become discouraged. Put in as much work, as some of you did to find this item, to find a good buyer.

I've Spent Several Hours trying to get one
Monday - 5 hours = Nothing 56g
Tuesday - 9 Hours = Nothing 98g
Wednesday - 4 hours so far = nothing

I'm slightly ticked I see it like this

1 kill = .01% Chance of Drop
10 Kills = .1% Chance of Drop
100 kills = 1% Chance of Drop
1000 Kills = 10% Chance of Drop total
10,000 Kills = 100% Chance of Drop

Right now I'm roughly at 5000 Kills (Guessing) I have 0/36000 hated with the bloodsail and I'm halfway revered with Bootybay and others now

I keep hitting the 2 ships right next to each other going back and forth back and forth for hours. Am I doing something wrong I mean each trip heeds about 13 guys that can drop it and about 2 that don't.

BTW I'm a level 65 Warrior named Krary on Bladefist and am a Rare Pet Collector

I was in a bidding war with someone for this rare find. I started the bid with 5 gold and I ended up monitoring it for 2 hours just so I could make sure I was the winner. Someone kept on upping the bid and I finally won it for 20 gold! I farmed this thing for months! And it is mine! Woot woot, I have all of the parrots now!

Well, i had the luck to find one.

I farmed booty bay first for the Bloodsail-reputation-quest to become the Bloodsail-admiralshat.
Then i tried to become my friendly reputation at Booty Bay back, by killing Bloodsails all over Stv.

After killing 3000 Bloodsails i found the very nice Carrot :D
The pet is soooo sweet and soooo pretty.

Just got one of these tonight on Norgannon server. Up on AH for 100g buyout/75 min bid. Will see if it actually sells. I personally wouldn't pay that much for something to follow you around and be annoying but some people are in to that :p

Gusy I kid you not, I found this extremely rare bird, and won it yesterday with a bid of 15g, as many of you know it is worth 10 times that, or more.

I then got on today, searching through the AH miscellaneous for pets I don't have yet, and I found it again, this time with a Buyout of 20s, I was so freaking suprised i didn't even hesitate to pick it up.

Now I have one to keep and one to sell for an appropriate price.
