Many people believe that all three OOX beacons are are more likely to drop off humanoids than other mob types. The drop rates are very low whatever the case, but don't seem to support that theory, at least for the Feralas beacon (of course, there aren't *that* many humanoids in Feralas). If you're farming for this beacon, it looks like the Woodpaw might be your best bet.

I received mine from the Tauren west of the Horde Camp. Had to kill about 12 of them, was questing for their horns at the same time =)

If you do all the 3 Distress Beacon quest, in Feralas, Tanaris and Hinterlands, you will in the final quest recieve a Mechanical Chicken as a reward

This was a real challenge to solo as a 45 rogue...you'll have to defend the chicken against any random mob in his path, as well as several scripted groups. The chicken does not pause or stop at all to let you med up, so mount and run ahead of it, then stop to bandage/eat while it runs past you again.

The scripted groups are 3 yetis just outside the cave, 3 gorillas near the bridge on the way to the coast, and finally a group of 4 woodpaws on the ramp down to the water. The yetis hit the hardest, the gorillas are the easiest group and the woodpaws are tough just because there are so many.

On the Yetis I would suggest using a blind and blade flurry (assuming you're combat spec). On the gorillas don't use any cooldowns. That should leave you with all your cooldowns for the final group of 4 woodpaws...I was able to kill them by using evasion, blade flurry, and adrenaline rush all at the same time. If you're going to die before all 4 are dead you can vanish to dump aggro on the robot, then finish them off. Don't hesitate to use a health pot if you ever need it.

One thing to watch for is that this quest is a bit buggy. Sometimes the scripted groups come and aggro on you but the chicken keeps running. If you just let him go you fail due to proximity, so you really need to keep up. Use your sprint if you have to, eventually it will notice and aggro on you. If you stay right on top of the chicken you can make sure this doesn't happen. Staying behind it wont necessarily work, sometimes they run right past him and attack you even while stealthed!

You can also use that bug to your advantage on the last group. If you can get them to aggro on you while the chicken runs past just let him get a bit of distance, then vanish to drop aggro. They'll reset to where they spawned since they're not in combat with the chicken and then you just follow him to the shore.

I started farming the yeti's in the cave where the actual chicken robot is at lvl 48... I'm now lv 49 (2 bars from 50)... my skinning went from 184 to 300... and STILL no beacon... but I'm not giving up. That beacon will drop! gl everyone else...

Dropped for me off one of the ogre mobs in The High Wilderness as of patch 2.4.2...maybe try grinding there? : / good luck

I've farmed for this item for far to long and can tell you all these drop rates are very inaccurate. I can say with confidence that Zapped Shore Striders DO NOT have a 50% drop rate of this item. Good luck to all who try to get this thing.

Take the distress beacon to Oglethorpe's homing robot in a cave near Feral Scar Vale.

The location is 53,55
i got 3900 xp

after this is going to run you back to the dock loc 45,40

there are 4 waves you have to deal with but i didnt find it that hard to do it came close on the last wave but i won.

When you look at drop rates you need to consider the number of mobs killed. A 50% drop rate cannot be relied upon when there are only 6 mobs killed calculating that rate. Look for the high number killed drop rates for better accuracy.

is there anyone who knows if there is a upper limit for getting this quest (this drop)?
i have been killing over 200 mobs for 2 days
and have not yet got the drop!
and im a level 51 mage (this is the last quest i need)

I was working on a quest and after killing a few mobs it dropped. I guess I was lucking after reading about a few of the people here that have not got this one yet. It dropped for me after killing 6 Sprites. I am a lvl 47 Hunter and I was given 3900 exp.

i'm a lvl 51 warrior and i had this thing drop so i don't think that you can be "too high" to do this quest, if that was your concern.

Is it at all possible that your chances of it dropping increase the closer you are to the chicken? For the Tanaris and The Hinterlands beacons, I was near where the chicken was when the beacon dropped.... I still need this one but haven't started farming for it yet.

Look, the robot is inside the Feral Scar Vale, so you would have to get inside throug the cave. Many yeties, so be careful. The exact coordinates are 53,55. That beacon dropped from Ogre (dont' remember the name) Warlock.

i got it lvl 44 after running across a crab guy only had to kill one to get it.it was by mistake i even went into the area

My little lock was level 48, and had completed the escortes in Tanaris and Hinterlands, and decided to try for this.

Went to the yeticave, just where the robot is, at 53,55, and started killing yetis. Beacon dropped after maybe 15 kills.

My advice is to clear the yetis in the tunnel out, and those just outside the tunnel before you start the escorte.

One thing I have noticed on my three escortes, is that if you take aggro from the mobs before the chicken aggros them, the chicken will continue running like nothing happened! So my tactic was to run a bit behind, and let the chicken draw aggro, and then be quick to pull aggro of it. Then it will fight along side you untill the mobs are dead. This goes for all three escortes. Both in Ferelas, Hinterlands and Tanaris. But don't let the chicken have aggro! It dies easy!

As previous posters have said, there are three waves of mobs that spawn. The last one is the worst, with 5 mobs. But as long as you are capable of handling that, no problems at all!

My biggest challenge on all these escortes have been to avoid ganking hordies! Hehe...

Delivered all three escortequests in Booty Bay, and got my mechanical chicken! Yey!

It took me about 4 or 5 times to complete this quest. IMO the worst wave was the last (for me it was 4 Mosshides). I'm a level 47 Druid.

From doing it so many times, I figured out that if you get too far away from the chicken (either running ahead to meet baddies, or lagging behind) he won't stop to help you fight. If he keeps on running, try your darndest to catch up with him and he'll turn around and fight with you.

Took nearly three hours of farming but finally dropped from a grey yeti. Just reinforcing the belief that there isn't a level cap for the drop.

I had figured I would go back and do these sometime and finally got around to doing this one as a 70 warrior because i want to get my own robot chicken for fun. I am on the Zangermarsh PVE server and was having problems getting the drop from the Yetis. I ran into a long time player who suggested killing the ogres in the ruins. I started farming at the Ruins of Isildien in Feralas and sure enough got the drop from a warlock at 61,72. I wonder if these kind of drops are server specific depending on the type of server in order to make getting the rewards more difficult sometimes. Anyway happy hunting all. :)

This appears to be the more rare of the 3 beacons, overall. It's not something you would notice on just one character, across multiple characters this is the one I've seen the least of.

Had to kill roughly 190 yetis for this to drop, Im a skinner and just counted the amount of stacks of leather I got. Took forever due to the fact that I was not alone there.

After 2 long days and nearly a full level from 47 to 48 of grinding mobs, I finally got the beacon from a Hatecrest Naga. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but when I first started grinding for the beacon I didn't have any quests in my quest log for Feralas. Yesterday I farmed mainly Gordunni and Woodpaw for about 5 hours in various places around Feralas with no luck. Then today I decided, might as well do the quests here since it can drop off of any mob. I picked up the Hatecrest Naga Scale quest from Feathermoon, and in about 45 minutes it dropped.

Good luck to anyone else looking for this beacon.

Once you start the escort quest, the beacon disappears from your pack. However, all is not lost if you fail the escort. All you have to do is delete the failed quest and go back into the cave. The chicken robot offers you the quest again.

This quest is clearly bugged - tried it 3 times now, every time with the same result:

As soon as you are near the bridge and the chicken says that "Danger imminent" crap, 3 apes spawn....and the quest fails instantly.
No warnings, no nothing - it just fails the very second the apes spawn!

What the hell, Blizz - why don't you properly test your goddamn quests? >:(

Edit: After looking into it, it seems one of two things will happen as the apes spawn:
1) The chicken will despawn instantly and you fail it instantly
2) The chicken will run past the apes and they will all aggro it, killing it in 10 seconds (and even if you manage to take aggro on all of them the chicken will just continue its run, leaving you behind with the apes, and the quest will fail)

All the chicken quests have had and seem to continue to have problems in Classic, including the last one I tried in the Hinterlands, where the chicken committed suicide two minutes into the quest. At least that was something I hadn't seen before. More often than not they are a source of massive agida, strange new curses and unexplained hair loss.

Have fun and just skip these. If you get one, you can't even give it to somebody you don't like because it's soulbound. Treat it the same way you would an angry, radioactive rattlesnake.

got it after a lil over 2 hours of farming nagas in the cage, or after 172 kills. got a few greens out of it and some pearls from the calms.
