This is the first Retribution Paladin / Warrior 5 piece set at 70, similar in scope to our current Valor/Lightforge. As follows:

While the warriors got their Bold Armor (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/itemset=653) this set is likely to go to retribution paladins, unless no paladin is present.
The paladin set Righteous Armor (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/itemset=623) is only fit for tanking and some healing, hope warriors have some understanding.

I agree, the set is not meant for anyone in particular so please don't generalize this set as it were for a certain class.

The reason Blizz made this set is for both Plate classes to have a go at it.

For fury warriors the legs with any other piece of ur chosing is an awesome set to have. I will probly try to get legs and shoulders myself cause thats 52 hit rating and 47 crit rating plus the shoulder sockets. witch is an amazing amount of crit/hit and ur not giving up much AP or stam so this set is Fury love from blizz IMO.

Alright, I have a 70 paladin and a 63 warrior. This set is good for both paladins and warriors due to the fact that you can customize it with gems. So a paladin can add spell dmg or int, and a warrior can add crit, hit, and whatever else. Also, this set seems like a raid and/or dungeon set for dps'ers to me. But I wouldent roll on the peices because im not a retribution paladin.

Blacksmiths should consider crafting themselves https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/itemset=566 and using shoulders and pants of Doomplate set, to gain the 35 hit bonus.
Although Burning Rage set doesn't have sockets, it has very high str and crit values, which makes up the loss of few sockets.

In ideal Fury gear, outside of this set, you will have the following:

Gloves: Gloves of Cruel Intention/of the Vanquisher (Scryer only)
Helm: Overlord's Helmet of Second Sight
Shoulders: Some quest green, Doomplate is the best dps plate
Chest: Chest of A'dal
Legs: Legguards of the Shattered Hand

And will use the following gems to maximize overall AP/crit.
Red: Inscribed Noble Topaz, +4 Crit, +4 Str
Bold Living Ruby +8 Str
Yellow: Inscribed Noble Topaz, +4 Crit, +4 Str
Smooth Dawnstone, +8 Crit
Rigid Dawnstone +8 Hit
Blue: Sovereign Nightseye +6 Stam, +4 Str
Star of Elune, +12 Stam (sometimes you just need health)

In the Helm slot, the Second Sight helm is far superior in every way, except stamina. It has 39 + 12 + 18 = 69 potential stamina compared to 12 + 12 +12 + 22 = 58 potential stamina. The stamina is not worth it as a dps warrior, so that is moot.

Shoulders, as I said, there is nothing better. Get these.

So the question is whether or not getting Doomplate 4piece is worth it after getting the legs or chest for 2piece. The quick answer is YES. Doomplate is superior if gemmed with the above blue gems to get all the bonuses, in every way.

The following is what you get from the above listed Gloves/Legs/Chest (Assuming you're Scryer).

2.96% Crit
60 Hit rating

What you get before gems from Doomplate before Gems and Gem bonuses:
194 AP
85 Stam
2.08%
52 Hit (Includes set bonus)

Now as you can see, you are already very comparable to the previous items, and gained a proc. You now have 2 Red, 2 Yellow, 2 Blue sockets. Lets assume you go for the socket bonuses:

4x Inscribed Noble Topazes = 16 Str, 16 Crit
2x Sovereign Nightseyes = 8 Str, 12 Stam
+4 Crit
+3 Hit

194 + (24 * 2) AP = 244 AP
85 +12 Stam = 970 Health
2.08% + .9% = 2.98% Crit
52 Hit (Includes set bonus) + 3 = 55 Hit

What's the difference?
You've gained:
18 AP
400 Health
.02% Crit
-5 Hit
Awesome proc.

Whether or not the proc is worth it to you is completely up to your situation. For those still in Kara and lower, the 2piece Warbringer bonus isn't worth breaking the 4piece on Doomplate, but the helm is far superior to Second Sight. For those who can get all of Warbringer, duh =P An additional note, the 4piece + Warbringer helm has a good number of sockets for you to meet more difficult Meta gem requirements. 8 slots among the Doomplate compared to none on the other blues, and only 5 on Warbringer itself.

Regarding the 4-Piece Bonus ("Your attacks have a chance to grant you 160 attack power for 15 sec."):

The stated procrate of 2% matches what i've been observing in-game, it also procs off Special Attacks.

In my case (2.6 MH, 1.4 OH) the proc had an observed uptime of 38%, which would translate into a static +60,8 AP bonus.

Note that the real benefit might vary depending on your gear choices and attack-cycle, but as a rough estimate you can assume its as good as 61 AP.

when it comes down to it, this is in no way a viable DPS set for paladins, regretfully. Ret pallies still have basically no choice but to PVP for quite a long time to get any decent ret gear.

It's a shame that Blizz still makes it so hard to get great +hit fury gear for warriors. We're the only class that still has to run HEROICS just to get blue stuff. Not only that, but the RARELY done heroics. Who runs DURNHOLDE heroic and wipes 10 times just to get a blue helm? IMO just quest and get your Overlord's Helmet of Second Sight and Blackened chestplate (+25hit) or A'dal chest, buy the leggards of shattered hand (+24 hit) from AH, get your gladiator shoulders (+16 with gem)and gloves though pvp, and you're gtg as fury. Trinkets (poison vial is +35hit) and rings (19-25 hit) from kara will give you the rest of the +hit and attack you need and you would'nt have sacrificed tons of crit. As for weapons, go gladiator when you can, but the epic Vindicators sword with +19 hit from Aldor exalted rep is a good way to start if you don't raid or pvp a lot. Keepers of time and Consortium exalted daggers are a fine offhand to make you top 3 in dps when you 1st enter kara. Good luck and may the force of fury be with you :P

We're the only class that still has to run HEROICS just to get blue stuff.

Not necessarily true. I haven't looked at all classes but the blue ilvl 115 healing gear for both Paladins and Shamans drops mostly on heroic bosses. Not sure why Blizzard chose to make gearing up for Karazhan so tough for certain combinations of classes and specs.

Shaman - 5 of 8 drop only in heroics.
Paladin - 6 of 8 drop only in heroics.

that dumb@#$% above obviously knows nothing about fury wars. assuming you've ever seen a half-decent healer before, a fury war can be a helpful addition to any heroic group, and I have 3 pieces of this set not including the matching boots, and i hope to get the whole set because it looks so cool :]

Yeah i'll go ahead and add my 2 cents to this, I am a Fury warrior 90% of the time, the other 10% i am Arms or Prot for Arena / Raids, i have NEVER been turned down on an instance group since people know that my dps is great. As for the set like all gear it is useable by all who ware plate, yeah i would be a bit annoyed by a paladin who took it from me since i also have a Paladin and know the stats they need are not the ones the ret pallys want, but hey no one is perfect. Please shut up about "ZOMG NOOBZORS FURY IS GHAY PROT FTW!one!eleven!

It took me forever to get all 5 pieces of the doomplate set, here's some info.

1) Is it worth it to get the doomplate set?
No
Don't get me wrong, I _LOVE_ my doomplate set and its sets bonuses rock. But they're so hard to get that its easier to just get into a guild that raids Kara pretty well & *boom* you've got better gear in half the time. The doomplate gear drops in heroics (except the chest) and most of them are all the hard heroics nobody wants to do or knows how to, some of them feel harder than Kara too kinda defeating the point. If you want to PUG heroic crypts for the legs expect to die many times just to beat it once, and even then it won't drop (try again 6 more times >.<). PUGGING Heroic hillsbrad for the helmet is absolute hell, Kara is easier compared to the amount of effort I put into that place.

2) How are the set bonuses?
They rock.
The two piece set gives +35 hit, and the four piece set bonus procs about every fight and lasts for 15 seconds that it feels like its up almost half the time. Do keep in mind that, like all blue rare gear, that as soon as you find purple epic quality gear these pieces will be obsolete.

3) What should I get then?

None of them have set bonuses but will give you stats that are just as strong if not stronger to prepare you to raid for Kara.

4) Who should get Doomplate gear? Paladins or warriors?
Who wins the roll?

If you happen to have two pieces of doomplate, great! Use them!
But it takes forever for anybody to get four or five pieces for that last bonus set that its not worth the trouble when in just as much time spent into Kara will give them more superior purple gear. I love Doomplate, it just takes forever to get & wiping way too many times in the harder heroics nobody wants to do that makes me say "Not worth the time" to everybody else.

The helm and chest i have SAVE me alot of time and effort so no heroic CoT for me thank you very much and no farming Arc forever to get it. Though the others i have to do actually have other drops im looking for so in the end i win regardless but Pre-Kara or Gruuls or Mags nice set, yes granted Mag and Gruul's is hard but ive seen people in mere Blue Sets do it, i mean its not like its the Eye or SSC here.

If you have the patience and time to get a good plate DPS set this is nice to get ^_^ otherwise good luck in guild in Kara and such and hope you win rolls or you have the DKP other then that this is very nice.

I completely agree with queazy in that by the time you are doing heroics, you are probably in a kara raiding guild and probably wont need most of this set. By the time you are geared enough or when you find players who are geared/smart enough to do these heroics to get this set, you and them most likely will be sharding these pieces.

The mail equivalent of this set, Desolation Battlegear or something, is actually a lot easier to get in that only 2 of the pieces require you to run a heroic to obtain. Although some of the pieces are req lvl. 68, I dont think it would matter as much because you will only be using that set until you can get some better pvp or raiding epics.

My point, if I havent hinted enough at it, is that this set should be easier to attain and put in normal level 70 instances like Steamvaults, Shattered Halls, Mechanar, etc. It was a bad move on Blizz part to put this whole set in heroics because you will almost never see anyone choosing to wear this over the Kara loot that they could just as easily attain.

The blue sets dropping from heroics should see their stats increased and changed to be of epic quality. The reason for this being that you can easily find better items. Not that heroics are really hard but due to the fact that they take time to complete, also, seeing that these set pieces drop from last bosses, and so you are not guaranteed that they'll even drop.

On the other hand, if you go to Karazhan often, it is quite likely that you'll come across gear that, without a doubt, will surpass the blue sets in stats. Most of the times, a player will start acquiring Karazhan epics even before getting two of these blues.

Also, it can be hard to get a group going for certain heroics, whilst Karazhan is the starting raid instance for most guilds. As such, players should be doing Karazhan something like once per week, whereas getting the Doomplate set is more like a whim. Fact is that getting epic items from Karazhan and above can prove to be easier than completing these blue sets.
