I was wondering why they would give spell crit on this set, but it would help out with SW: Death AND Smite/Holy shock.

So it would be a good set for shadow or holy damage priests.

Ok so I'm a raiding shadow priest. Here's my take on this set:

1.) Gloves. I've got better: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28507 32 base dmg, 2 gem slots, spell *hit* (usefull to shadow)

2.) Pants. Decent but not exceptional. I would wear these. I question the spell crit though. Mindblast and SW:D being our crit spells. They are not usually spam cast in raid bosses since they are mana inefficient. Also our crit rate is max 50% extra damage.

3.) Robe, Frozen Shadoweave better.

4.) Crown, Socket bonus +9 healing? uh what? At least it has spell hit and dmg. THere are blues that come incredibly close to this helm.

5.) Shoulders: Frozen Shadoweave dismantles this.

This set is basically hampered by the fact that it is trying to cater towards holy damage (smiter) or a shadow priest. So it can't have +holy dmg or +shadow dmg. This set is probably best for a smiter ( a raid smiter, talk about a rare spawn ).

I just don't get this set. I do appreciate that they tried. It is nice as a spriest not to have to piecemeal my gear from nonset drops. But currently, it looks like I will have to continue doing this. At least they gave us Frozen Shadoweave. :)

I think you're blinded by the big +dmg numbers on the other sets. They all lack the good stats that this set has.

First of all most items lack +spirit, which is essential if you're a serious raiding shadow priest, and this set has a significant boost in spirit.

Second this set has more sockets than the frozen shadoweave (7 in 3 pieces -- compared to 6), therefore you can compensate a little bit for the smaller +dmg with the appropriate gems.

Third the bonus are amazing, and you still have other areas to get high plus damage gear (such as the frozen shadoweave boots)

All in all, it's a good tier 4 set, a little bit better than what you can get from general instances and world drops. I think you were overrating it, or overexpecting what it would be.

This is not the step up (for damage) that tier 1 was over tier 0 before the expansion, this is why I am disappointed. Also, there are many crafted items that take 0 raid time that are MUCH better than anything on this list.

And Frozenshadoweave is 10x better for a shadow priest in the same slots.

50 shadow damage on shoulders and 72 on chest > than the small stat boosts, ignore the spirit, it's fairly pointless.

Heck, even the Oblivion trousers are just as good for a shadow priest as these legs.

Spirit is nearly useless for a raiding shadowpriest. In fact, I have base spirit with +1150 damage.

On top of that the 4 piece bonus is a waste because it is only used on mind flay, not SWP or VT, which are our 3 staple spells.

Instead I use:

Sorry, that's worth the tradeoff.

Any of the other pieces here erase either spellstrike or frozen shadoweave.

This set is clearly for smite priests, unfortunately. The +spirit is basically wasted on shadow priests because the regen bonus is so low on meditation with all the rest of the non-spirit gear that its not worthwhile.

And as far as shadowfiend lasting a whopping 3 more seconds, the damage differential on the 2 pieces you wear
instead of this set yields far more than the mana gained by 3 seconds of a fiend with VT except in fights where you might use the fiend 2x, which are not that numerous.

Blizz could have made 3 sets, one healing, one +dmg (the two we currently have) and one +shadow. Lessen the spirit on this set and convert the all/all to +shadow and you have a fine set.

This is a discpline dps set, not a heavy shadow dps set, clearly. You can get your hardcore shadow kicks elsewhere, there's plenty of other options for the slots available. There's no need to cater to every possible spec and off-spec with every single tier and source of armor.

Im a raiding shadow priest and i have no intention of owning this set. First the + spell dmg is way too weak. i mean cmon, 187 base spell dmg. my one handed mace has more then that. and the crit.............why on earth would i want crit? they should have added hit instead. Spirit? r u kidding me, there is nothing in the shadow tree that allows for mana regen while casting (besides spirit tap which is good for grinding out quests solo but when ur in a 25 man raid or killing a boss i doubt u will be gettting many kiling blows). The set bonuses are nice but dont make up for all thats lacking in this set. This set is way better for a smite priest then any shadow priest. i dont understand why Blizz didnt make 3 sets for priests? it seems like every other class has a set per talent tree. as for me im sticking to my Frozen Shadoweave and Spellstrike Sets for raiding =)

The part that bothers me the most about the 2 set bonus is that it's only used at most, every 5 minutes. Top that off with having to be extremely careful when you use it (because that darn fiend seems to gravitate towards any cc'd mobs..) and well..it just doesn't seem like the 2 set bonus is worth it if you can get better stats from other things.The 4 set bonus is nice, yes, but I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice the +damage to get it. My +damage is my mana regen with VT, so having it high is very important.

Yes, there are better damage pieces, I would prefer several items for sheer damage numbers but when it comes to mana regeneration and longevity in a raid or farming atmosphere a good balance of stats work just as well I think in general.

The spirit is high and in raid settings with Kings and Divine Spirit your looking at higher regen as well as more spellpower. Topped with any mana regen trinkets you can manage means you have the potential to last longer than someone who pushes out the dps more than you. This set isn't bad it is just more stat focused. The crit I could personally do without but it is flexible and it would work well with a spec having 41 shadow 11 holy quite well imo.

For farming I would choose this set over any other damage set available because it equivocates to 0 downtime. Potions and enchants can quickly minimize any "damage" problems you have in raids rather easily ( i am an alchemist ). What is good about this set is the STATS people. Damage isn't everything unless you have stats to use it with. I'm getting this set. At least 4 pieces of it. It's fine for PvE and with the patch even better.

Your a mana battery, the longer you last in a raid setting the better you'll be.

SW: Pain is actually used by both smite priests and shadow priests, I really don't see why they wouldn't apply the 5% to the ONE offensive spell universally used by all DPS priests!

Kseniva, There is simply not a single item in Spriest T4 you want if you full frozen shadoweave + Spellstrike set and the gloves from from attumen/Kael'thas of MGT. The set bonusses are crap, and the items quite frankly suck ass compared to the ones that are crafted/bought, meaning the ones that are better are actually also way easier to get :D

Why are shadow priests upset? not like the dps set only added to smite. It includes the mind flay doesn't it, you know the primary attack spell for shadow, or smite, primary attack spell for all other priests. Oh and this also helps shadow priests that stay outta shadow form that still use vampiric embrace etc but can still heal or use other spells if countered for 10+ sec.
So if you don't think its good, don't use it, but @#$%^ing on thott ain't gonna fix it.

Look beyond your own narrow minded thinking to see there is more to the game and world that what you can see.

The problem with this for shadow priests is not the set bonuses.

The problem is the lack of +damage. I realize that it is quit impossible, but if someone is considering being a shadow priest, they should become a tailor.

You are just nerfing yourself if you do not get the Shadow's Embrace set. This is by far better than the tier4 and tier5 sets.

I didn't realize this until I picked up my Tier 4 gloves. They basically suck compared to my blue Tempest Touch I got from a quest reward.

I hope blizz buffs this set, to make them worth while.

A shadow priest (especially a tailor) should never roll on this set. You not only compete with other priests for this item, but with the other classes who can probably use the "turn-in" more.

Taking this only hurts you in the long run...

I find this set ridiculously stupid in terms of damage. What hurts the most is the set bonus, which makes this set totally crappy. For T4 priests, shadow and holy alike, please choose the other set. T4 is really a transition set in my opinion. You get other items that can easily match your healing and damage abilities else where.

iono why ya'll shadow/dmg ppl are trippin..

if you want more +dmg, just pick up tailoring and make the shadow set, (chest, boots, shoulders)
and then make the spellstrike hood and pants.

im a shadow priest and i made a heal set out of the t4 peices i've gotten.

you know, maybe the set was made so both Holy and Shadow priest can use.

and it has sockets, which are completely customizable to better suit ur specc and needs.

personally, i love this set, since i am a Holy DPS priest. :D

As for me? i got the primalmoon cloth and Whitemend sets for my healin set and im turnin my T4 pieces for the dps set.

I'm a shadow priest and I dont think much of this set tbh. I've seen better epics drop in the lvl70 instances which would be more benificial to dps priests. I could see myself using the chest maybe, thats about it.

Getting these would take quite some time and alot of work and I dont think they are worth the effort really. Atleast there is a dps set though, so thats one positive which priests never had before TBC where Bliz made all the priest stuff for healing spec priests.

on another note... if you add up the high int, high sta, high spi and spell damage combined with the huge +spell hit you will see prolly that 4 pices of the set is pritty much the best a shadow priest can get till prolly T5 for raiding imo, dont forget that a spell hit = about 1% damage in endgames and in most raids u will have a healing priest doing imp spi buff on u makeing 10% of your spi into damagem wich adds for additional 20 damage or so for the 4 pices, also the +5% mind flay adds to over 60 damage by itself i think cause its most of what you do in long battles vs hard bosses, dots and mind flay.. all together you will see that the set will prolly add you like 100 damage, or at least close to that only from the 4 pices bonuse, the additional spi and the hit rating, thats my oppinion anyway.

And btw, a good shadow priest will NOT keep VE all the time cause VE causes like 20%+ threat, if your places on a group with the MT it will do more harm then good, its better to be in a group with the spellcasters and do VT=SWP=MF for the mana reg and only when u have a threat gap and there's an aoe phase or something work the VE... dont forget its 95% overhealing and creats like 20%+ threat.. with other spellcasters haveing so much + healing and healing talants thats more oftern then not a waste of time.

Yes I do agree that the tailoring set is better then the t4 for damage output. But as far as regean and mana goes I think t4 is better. I find right not I run out of mana to fast in long fights. As a Shadow Priest my job is to make sure people have enough mana to keep going in those long fights. So over all I am taking this set over the tailoring one.
