So you can avoid the mistake I made: This headpiece that would be perfect for lvl 29 twinking is available only to Gnomish engineers, which is only available at level 30. So don't set your sights on this if you are gearing up for that bracket.

Only gnomish engineers can make these - thus rendering them impossible to get for a lvl29 twink. Oh the disappointment.

Patch 2.3 took away the +9 Agility. That's very disappointing, as my Hunter could really have used the bonus.

I just made myself a pair of these goggles. They are the same color as the Green-Tinted Goggles, except that there is a smaller lense extruding from the right lense, as if it is meant for examining things. Think of it as one of the monocles that jewelers use for inspecting diamonds.

For the Horde, this is learned in Booty Bay from Oglethorpe Obnoticus. It should be noted that Alliance can learn from this NPC too.

So how does one become a gnomish engineer? I've got all the mats for this and really wanted to make them, but now I cannot as I cannot find out how to obtain the schematic... :(

Man these things are deceptively hard to make.
To make these you need Fire Goggles, to make those you need Green-Tinted Goggles, and to make those you need Flying Tiger Goggles. Whew!
I thought I'd list all the mats you need to make these from scratch.

2 Gold Power Core (1 Gold Bar)
6 Heavy Leather
2 Flask of Mojo
1 Mithril Tube (3 Mithril Bars)
2 Citrine
2 Elemental Fire
4 Medium Leather
2 Moss Agate
6 Light Leather
2 Tigerseye

Fortunately for me I had all the mats kicking around on a bunch of chars so I didn't have to buy anything but these take a bit of effort to make. Well worth it at lvl 32 though :)

In order to make these sweet goggles u need to make fire goggles and for those u need two elemental fires! anyone know the easiest way to get elemental fire, cuz i checked AH and theyre up for unbelievable prices....

In theory, if you have a high level character supporting, say, a level 20 engineer and providing them with mats and an escort to Booty Bay, is there anything to stop them making and wearing these goggles?

i have 231 engineering and im only level 26 so i dont see why these things cant happen except you must be level 30 to get the gnomeish or goblin quests and you need level 35 to get artizan unless your a gnome then you can get +15 on top of your 225

It is impossible for a 29 character to own these. Not only are they BoP, but *ONLY* Gnomish Engineers can make these.

You can't get the Gnomish specialization until...well, after level 29.

Show me a level 29 Artisan Gnomish Engineer.

The reason why a 29 can't wear these is because they cannot be made until you acquire gnomish engineering (minimum level 30 to train in this) AND because they are Bind on pickup - ONLY THE MAKER CAN WEAR THEM and HE CAN'T POST THEM TO ANYONE ELSE. So basically they are restricted to level 30+ gnomish engineers even if it doesn't explicitly say this. QED

It is easy to confuse their appearance with the green goggles (wearable at level 10 if you have the engineering skill-up) as has been pointed out already.

with my gnome lock i remember gettin some schmata from this guy b4 i was lvl 35 b/c i had my eng maxxed out.... im wondering if with my 29 gn rogue twink if i can get these with the +15 eng skill

Here are the facts.

Yes, you can get the green-tinted goggles (which look very similar to the gnomish ones) before 29.

You CANNOT get the gnomish ones because the quest that makes you a gnomish engineer is only acquirable at level 30, and before then you cannot train the schema, even if you are a gnome.

This is learned from Tinkmaster Overspark in Iron Forge at 69,50 You do NOT need to go into gnomer...but you do need to be a gnomish engineer.

The best helm for a Hunter, or a Rogue at 29 is any of the 3 "monkey" helms. But there is one only obtained with a horde toon. I used a buddies horde toon to farm the helm then went to booty bay and sold it to my toon. It is Humbert's helm, with stats as:

7 Agility
8 Stamina

Unless you get lucky enough to find or buy a Infiltrator cap of the monkey, Robust Helm of the Monkey, or a pathfinder hat of the monkey. But if you don't get these in a drop (which all 3 are world) you will pay generously in the AH for them, when you can go get the Humbert's in about 15 min for free. That's what I did, now, I can just play, and check the AH and wait for a good deal.

technically a lvl 1 character can have up to 300 engineering, IF he made his char more than 2 years ago, and got 300 engineering before the patch enlisted prevented him from doing so. just throwing that out there

I'm a gnome rogue, and I love(d) these. It has the 2 main stats we need (Agi, Stam) and Spirit as well.

Also, you can get this at a low(er) level. Pretty good AC too.

Just so you don't do the same misstake as I did. Its not possible to obtain this as lvl 29. You need to be lvl 30 to learn Gnomish Engineering. I spent 100 gold skilling Engineering to lvl 210. Sucks.

There's a lot of confusion about this currently. There are basically four types of items that can be made by engineers:

BoE items that can be used by any engineer and traded.
BoP items that can be crafted by a specific specialization, but used by any engineer
Items that require a specific specialization to use.
BoP items that can be crafted by an engineer, but can be used even after engineering is dropped

Gnomish Engineering allows you to craft these items:

If your intent is to switch to Goblin after crafting all the goodies (by dropping and re-leveling Engineering), you should probably craft all of these items, but you must craft Gnomish Goggles, Gnomish Battle Chicken, Gnomish Death Ray, and Lil' Smoky (these are BoP) or you will lose access to these items permanently (unless you drop and re-level gnomish engineering again.

Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan and World Enlarger cannot be used by a non-gnomish engineer, so you can skip crafting these if you're planning on switching.

NOTE: Gnomish Death Ray doesn't require Engineering to use, so technically, you could level Engineering to craft this item, and drop it and still be able to use it.
