8 Dark Iron Ore per Dark Iron Bar. The only place in the game, currently, that you can smelt DI is at the Forge right before the entrance to MC in BRD.

I talked to Gloom'rel, and he said something like "blah blah sacrifice first"and i couldn`t give him anything, and i still cant smelt dark iron,.
Anyone know what i`m doing wrong here?

You can only smelt the Dark Iron ore at the Black forge in BRD.

Before you can smelt it though you must give a tribute to the man in the tomb of 7. Simply click on the altar next to him then follow instructions. You will need 20 Gold Bars, 10 Truesilver bars, and 2 Star Ruby's.

they are not exclusively in brd or whatever the guide says. although it is a damn good guide, i found a deposit in the searing gorge. it was the best part of my day, which is kinda sad.

As of the new release 1.8 of WoW dark iron sources may now appear everywhere, not only in BRD.

I mined several deposits on just one run through Searing Gorge. I think I picked up about 12 pieces of ore, and I wasn't really looking for it either. Very nice that they started putting nodes outside BRD - lets you build up a stock before you even get to the forge

I went to searing gorge with my lvl 50 dwarf paladin and found about 19 dark iron ore and found 2 black diaminds off the dark iron veins and there worth about 30g to 15g a piece. I always run around searing gorge about once now. I have one question can u get more dark iron in burning stepps?

i handed all the stuff over but got to the molten bit and found i couldnt make dark iron even when i had all the ore i needed but on my smelting list the dark iron didnt show up! am i doing somethin wrong or did i need to talk to him again?

can u stealth as a 60 rogue to teh black forge? also i have boots that add 1 lvl to my stealthing

Just watched a video showing an engineer-rogue soloing to the forge.
he avoided the lava with sprint and a parachute cloak.
otherwise it's nice to have swim tempo potion and/or that craftable belt with +15% swim speed.
high FR oder FR potions might help.

no, you dont need be exalted with the T-Bro (yeah, they gangsta) to LEARN to smelt Dark Iron Ore into Dark Iron Bars.

OK, lets say you've never looked at Dark Iron Ore before. You have mining as a skill and also blacksmithing (Weaponsmithing/Armorsmithing doesnt matter which). You want to start gathering Dark Iron Ore.

A few notes about the ore itself:
1a. Blacrock Depths and Molten Core are the ONLY instances in the game in which it can be gathered.
1b. Searing Gorge and burning steppes (after old patch now)
2. The ore deposits will show up on you're minimap just as any other ore will.
3. You need to have mining skilled up to at least 230 to mine (heirgo smelt) the ore.

Blackrock depths is special because dark iron ore is completely bound to it. To smelt it you need to give 20 Gold Bars, 2 Star Rubies and 10 Truesilver bars to Gloom'rel in the 7 ghosts room, then you fight 7 elites and he will teach you how to smelt it.

Great so now you know how to break the ore down into bars, only there are a few problems:

1. To make one bar of dark iron you need 8 dark iron ore.
2. You need to smelt it at the black forge, located close to the Molten Core raid instance deep within BRD.

To make Dark Iron items with you bars requires dark iron plans that either:
1.Drop randomly in BRD, or...
2.Can be bought from Lokthos Darkbargainer once you attain exalted with the Thorium Brotherhood.

To make said Dark Iron items requires you to work at the Dark Anvil which is located in the centre of the instance near where Lord Incendius spawns.

im a miner and skinner, need to lvl some more b4 dark iron but anyway... a stealth run is possible just grab 2 resto druids and some rogues and just walk thru the front door and kill the boss.... shouldnt be too hard. gl all w/ all ur mining and such

I have had almost zero luck finding Dark Iron veins in Burning Stepps or Searing gorge. Anyone else notice this lately or am I just very unlucky?

After the current patch v 2.0

Ive been farming Dark Iron and have around 6 or 7 stacks of it. I belive they max out at 8 pieces per stack which give me around 50 or 60 pieces.

All this being said, I have never even been into BRD.

All the dark Iron I found was in Searing Gorge.

It is possible to mine it outsidie of BRD and MC, and ive only seen it in Searing Gorge.

I can also confirm that 20 Gold bars, 10 True silver and 2 Star Rubies must be given to Gloom'Rel to complete the quest.

Need the ore for my epic mount and is almost impossible to get a group to run. Also hard to find on ah because nobody is mining the stuff.

The Warbringer Constructs just past Incendius each drop one dark iron ore.

This was soloable by a 70 protection warrior with blue gear.

You can walk down the middle of the ranks of guys to get to this place. Just don't pull Fineous at the same time as another group. Fineous is a 10 minute fight. He heals so keep your shield bash at the ready.

edit: I reset the instance for the second round. The Warbringers on the ramp did NOT all drop dark iron ore like they did the first round. In fact, NONE of them dropped any.

I was in Searing gorge and I found some nodes there, but I can't mine them. I'm skill 375. so I'm confused... is it because I don't have enough TB rep? or because I didn't buy the smelting skill?

why can't I mine these?

Smelting is still the same as described above.

Requires donation to the lower gloom'rel (gold true silver star ruby). Click on him he says you havent sacrificed enuff. Donation bowl will appear. Click on it to place the goods. Then click on Gloom again to get smelting dark iron.

Yes you do have to be a miner!

To get the door to open to get access to the smelter you click on the upper gloom'rel, kill all the ghosts. This bit has nothing to do with learning to smelt. Then you can access the path leading to the smelter.

Does anyone know if it's possible for a jewelcrafter to prospect dark iron ore?

There is no listings on this page of any records of dark iron ore beeing prospected, but since all other regular ores are prospectable..

..if possible, what kind of gems can you expect to get from it?

EDIT 13.2-08: Just tested it myself. It is NOT possible to prospect Dark iron ore! The game tells you that "there are no gems in that ore".

It is NOT, I repeat NOT possible to prospect this ore if you are an enchanter. Damn it... now I gotta resell. My loss is your gain... The error message is "There are no gems in this"

go thur bar, pop on fire protection, and swim fast on ledge to the left of ambassador run and jump swim for island flash pot rest. then distract walk by dive in run up ramp.

kill the lvl54e at forge and have you way

is there a level requirement to mine this? i am 41 and was standing onfront of one of these. nothing showed up on my mini map nor did it show that interact minig thing. i have 236 in minig so its not my mining level i think.

Speak with Gloom'Rel, who stands on the right side of the room of the seven dwarven spirits. This room is near the end of the instance, and takes quite a while to reach. Gloom'Rel will demand a tribute in order to teach the art of smelting Dark Iron. NOTE: Make sure you speak with Gloom'Rel before speaking with Doom'Rel or any other of the dwarven spirits. Once you start the battle sequence by speaking with Doom'Rel, you can't go back to Gloom'Rel and learn your smelting.

Place the tribute items into the Spectral Chalice that appears next to Gloom'Rel after you speak with him. You may need to speak with Gloom'Rel again after you offer your tribute; I don't recall. You now know how to smelt Dark Iron!

*Tribute Items*
- 2 Star Ruby
- 10 Truesilver Bar
- 20 Gold Bar

Just prior to the bridge is a path to the left, leading up to a waterfall of lava, in the midst of which is the Black Forge. There are a few dark iron veins in Black Rocks Depths. Some mobs there drop this ore.

I went to BRD to learn to smelt dark iorn...120 ores in my bag and 20 gold 10 truesilver and 2 star ruby. Went to the ghost, first on the right, spoke to it and nothing...i do not get the request to give the items needed to learn DI smelting. I have 300 mineing skill so why can't i learn! (lvl 56 warrior).

I don't think you can get dark iron ore from the Firegut Ogre Mages anymore. At least not at a 50% drop rate. I killed about 20 of them and only got Dark Iron Scraps.

Okay people I am a Certified expert on this as I have read abd tried over 20 times to do this so listen up. You go past the Bar have the elemental bust open the door yada yada yada go around to Hall of 7. Speak to Gloom and you will see a ghostly pot click it and he will take your 20 gold bars 2 rubys and 10 truesilver bars. THEN TALK TO HIM AGAIN! very important step I missed. SO TALK TO HIM TWICE! then get ready for a fight.

Do I still need to go to BRD to learn how to smelt Dark Iron ore or can one learn that skill in outland now? As enchanters can now learn the spells one normally learn in Uldaman there without the need to visit Uldaman anymore so can BS do the same learn the skill to melt Dark Iron ore in Outland?

today in MC we were ending mc at garr right....so we saw a DI deposite right behind garr, we thought. we had to get that DI.Next everyone left the area but 2 pallys, first pally kited garr as far as possible then bubblehearth. while he was bubblehearthing the other pally was mining the DI deposite, then when done he bubblehearthed. FTW PALLYS! free dark iron.

there's an isnalnd in feralas (southern island/bigger one) that has a cave, shalzuru's cave (on the northern shore of the island) or smth where there is a underwater passage to another part of the cave where u can find dark iron, mithril, truesilver, rich thorium, iron and silver ore. u need a key to searing gorge (gained with a quest) to enter or u can squeeze through a crack in the wall or if u r a rogue u can pick the lock of the gate to obtain access to that cave. just go there and mine as much as u need or want. there r some lvl 40+ worms, that shouldn't be a problem, u have to pass.

I regularly collect Dark Ore in the Burning Steppes as well and find nodes more frequently there than in Searing Gorge.

I have not once seen this drop off a mob in BRD, do they drop on mobs in BRD, or anywhere? Since i have skinning and leatherworking....I wont be able to get ore or blood of mountain for the RPQ for thorium brotherhood rep unless i do MC or buy off AH for outrageous prices, any suggestions, buying 60 blood of mountains for 35 gold would put me over 2100 gold to get to revered!
