Best shaman offhand pre-outland IMO. That is if you skip doing old world dungeons, which most people do.

So yeah pick on of these baby's up as well as Cold Forged Hammer/Tooth of Eranikus and you're set.

Actually, Timp, alot of the high end hunters who know what they're doing are 30 marksman / 21 survival(melee) specced. This brings melee to about 50% or more in PvP situations. Being "skilled" won't keep you from getting chain stunned or dazed or frost shocked over and over, so we need damaging melee weapons as well as melee classes. Melee classes are never "forced" into ranged fighting, but hunters have a dead zone which we're forced into all the time, unless the other play is an idiot.

First off, those saying the people arguing are idiots because this is a crafted item are morons themselves. The arguement started when someone told the hunters to GET THESE AXES so they can stop rolling against melee-FOCUSED classes.

Second, if you get that pissed off about someone rolling on an item they can use, STOP JOINING THE PICKUP RAIDS AND GO WITH YOUR GUILD. If your guild isnt big enough or smart enough to know who's supposed to get what then find another one. A doomsaw drops, the warrior SHOULD get it. An uber bow drops, a hunter SHOULD get it. When you go with a good guild these problems dont come up.

Though the best dual wield for a pve hunter (since 1.6) is now 2 Bone slicing hatchets with +15 agility on both. Thats +112 ranged attack power + some hp's :)

as a hunter in the market for a new weapon i have a question. should i get 2 of these or lord alexanders battle axe? my 2h axe skill is at 239 and 1h axe is at 215. 2 dawns edges would cost me between 100-150g, but lord alexanders battle axe will run me about 75g. ive heard people rant and rave about the dawns edge and am tempted to use them but im partial to 2h axes. i would really appreciate feedback from more experienced hunters. thank you.

to get the plans u need to first go to everlook and get the axesmith quest, it requires u to 5 man LBRS to the shadow hunter a lvl ? boss. i would recomend doing this quest at lvl 60. u would want a strong group aswell

I would say if your a marks amn huter this would be the best to have

okay...this axe is nice, but what about Heartseeker?
i know that it is a Dagger and i imagine that everybody will now start complaining that it doesnt look good...but who cares? i care more for the dps in case i get in meele range (which is common for pvp hunters)

and this axe doenst look that good, so i would prefer Heartseeker...also a recipe, so you get it as easy as this axe...think about it

First of all, I would like to point out there are many other good choices when gearing your hunters with melee weapons. (bone slicing hatchet/barbareous blade comes to mind)

That being said, Dawn's Edge is a superb weapon when you consider a hunter's duties and abilities.

The 1% to crit is what makes this weapon so great. As a hunter, you'd want to produce massive amounts of damage. The stat on it will help you to do that by doing high damage with critical aimed shots or multi shots.

While many may complain abouy the fact that its melee dps is lacking, I would like to remind everyone that hunters aren't suppose to engage in melee combat in the first place. Instead of going head to head against a warrior or a rogue, a wiser option would be to utilize spells such as wing clip/scattershot/deterrance + counter attack in order to create distance and use range to your advantage.

Personally, I'm almost fully geared with GS set (2 piece missing), with Rhok'delar as my range weapon, and yet I still dual wield these all the time. My production in raids are consistent with top meter listings, and in pvp killing blows comes fast and easy.

In conclusion, this would be a powerful and easily accesible weapon for all hunters.

Because this is a craftable item, whoever can get one made for them deserves it. I mean, honestly. If a mage wants one and can afford it/has the mats, I know I wouldn't deny them it.

Just wondering, with Axe spec and other chance to crit from talents, doesn't this put the crit chance for a decent warrior with Ornate Mithril up around 20%? The extra bleed damage from constant crits has to be pushing the DPS up on these bad boys when dual-wielding! Any thoughts on what a better combo (non-purple) could be for a 50 ish warrior?

this is simply great for hunters and my m8 is master axe smith so hes making me it for free and i hav this and dai rends tribal guardian which pack hell of a punch in PVP combat especially if u use blood fury

lol ... there really should be nothing to complain about

all you hunters need to go out and get barb blade

why?

1. you get the 2% crit that dawns edges provides
2. you get an additional 60 AP that DE doesnt provide
3. in pvp, a 2h wpn is a nice way to get an insane raptor strike that dual wielding just cant provide

so go out there, get a free wpn, and stop whining.

on a side note, if you have the money and feel like wasting it, these are good pre barberous blade.

im getting barb blade myself, and i wouldnt dare DW these with either of my 2 60 warriors in case youre wondering :)

I used one of these in my offhand as a warrior for a while, with a Krol Blade main hand. The DPS is just 1 less than an assassination blade, and you lose a total of 8 attack power by having this offhand instead of assass...its a 2.1 speed, so much better for an offhand than assassination blade, at least for warriors.

you're talking about axe spec, in the arms tree. You shouldn't be dual wielding arms spec, its pretty gimped...rather, respec with roughly 31 points in fury, with 5 in dual wield specialization, so your off hand weapon does 25% more damage...and with an axe of the deeps woods in your main hand, this in your offhand, you'll do fine

Im a lvl 60 NE hunter on akama server.... and the mats for two of these are outrageous. Ive only seen a couple of Toons actually wield this weapon.
bone slicing has more agility, but since the patch its been nerfed to 1 agi = 1 rap so i can seen that having two of these would be better! i am 0/21/30 survival spec and i can get away from anyone trying to get in close in a fight, i pwn alot of melee fighters cuz of the fact that i can always get away and kite them

My smith doesnt have the recipe to make 2 of these for my hunter so I bought them, 25g each, high bidder, not BO.

The mats on my server arent that expensive. I just bought 24 stacks of Thorium bars off AH for 7g BO per stack and they usually are 10-15g/stack. Star Rubies are like 75s each. Blue sapps 1.5g to 3g each. Rugged leather 1.5g/stack. Enchanted Thorium Bars can be 5g-8g each depending on the price of dream dusts.

I used 2 of these until i got to level 60 which was before The Burning Crusade, but the day after the release of BC i got Blade of Misfortune which has 45 crit rating which is about 3.20% crit. Also has nice damage in melee if needed

It's not class specific. If you can afford to make it/grind for the materials and use it then it's yours. So... If you want to spend the cash, get it.

I jsut fixed them on my 50 shammy ( enchantment) putted streanght + 30 on 1 off them (off hand) Crusader for main hand
will be good to use up to lvl 61 :-))
before tbc thsoe where 1 of the best duel wielding axes for hunters imo :D
well I reccomend them for shammys

The whole reason I went Axe spec blacksmith was to make Arcanite reapers. Wasnt even thinking of these but the mats are so easy Ive made prob 10 of these for every reaper.

For a hunter the +15 agil enchant will be the crazy expensive part :p

this is actually a smithable :) plans is reward from a LBRS quest and is also the quest that makes you a master axesmith :)

Snakestone of the Shadow Huntress not a hard quest. did it with lvl 60 warrior tank lvl 60 mage lvl 60 shaman(he kinda didnt work that great so lets just call him a lvl 1 :) ) lvl 57 druid as healer and me at lvl 56 warrior :)

we only did that guy but still the way in gave us 3 blues. (some elemental card, devout belt( i won! :D ) shadowcraft belt).

this quest IS hard for someone who have never been i LBRS... take a few experienced players with you and your on your way to a good moneymaking (crafting dawns edge. bring mats + 10g fee!) (first time i did that i had like 5 hunters writing me for mats list :) )

1 Crit% for hunters is 53 agility. Dual wielding them gives the crit chance of 106 agility for hunters.

I crafted these with my mats, cost like 50g total. and then 2 +15 agi enchants cost me 50g total since I got x12 greater eternal essence free and farmed essence of airs. these are really sweet and gives me great dmg.

I spent a total of 54g for the materials to make two DE's. I spend around 120g for two agi +15 on them. Plus with the agi enchants a guildie gave me a free Gryphonwing Long Bow with a +7 scope on it. Now just need to hit the last bar in 49 to use.

IMO a really good investment. Will be using these for quite some time.

I really want a pair of these and have the mats but can't find a maker. Its for my alliance Hunter on hellscream. I will tip 5g or more for each to make for me. If your on the horde side maybe we can work out a deal through a neutral AH.

i already have 1. i got lucky though. found a person on my server who gives em dirt cheap. got my first in trade for a 16slotter, and my second is gonna cost me only 30g! i can't wait to duel wield this....hunter btw.
i'm debating between icy, and fiery, which do you suggest? i have heard that icy does not proc much....

I have gotten mine already, they costed me 50g each and they are well werth it, looking forward to get my +15agility enchants, though im thinking about only getting it on one of the axes, beacuse i would like an "bone slitching hatchet" (spelling?) from scholo to, and that with an +15 agility is weary neat:). Allmost fully marskmanship specced though i will respec lvl 60, highest crit 1703, im thanking my dawn's edge's for that^^

I paid 134g for both of my Axe w/o enchants. I think it was well worth it due to the fact i'm like the only hunter i've seen around wanting to buy them. I'm only lv 49 tho. :D still glad i bought them.

I would recommend these for any marksman speced hunter out there. The duel wield, along with +15agil enchant makes these very good to have. Bone Slicing Hatchet is also a good alternative, however I prefere these over the hatchet. If you are, survival speced, the bone slicing hatchet is better then duel wielding these. They are also relatively cheap and easy to craft/buy compared to most other BoE +1% crit items.

I think I'll use fiery enchantment twice.
