Living essence is used in several different recepies and/or patterns. They ca easaly be farmed from, for example, tar lords and their brethren just south of Marchall's refuge in un'guro.

I don't know how readable this will be but here's a little diagram of the transmute circle that is possible with elemental essences. The main circle is Earth to Water to Air to Fire and back to Earth. The two branches are Life to Earth to Life and Water to Undeath to Water.

Get these sometimes off Rotting Forest-Ragers and Infested Root-Walker in Terrokar, not very good drop rate though. While farming for Primal Life, after getting 4 Primals, I only had 3 Living Essences.

I'm currently leveling a ravager on the Fungal Giants and Bog Lords in Zangermarsh. He's getting around 0.3 or 0.4% a kill, and as I type, he's 82.5% through the level. That's at least 200 mobs, and I've just had my first one of these drop.

i just wonder; is the rates as good in Dire Maul as it seems? If so it may be a nice place to get these if you can solo it.

I just farmed 12 of these from the tar-people. They still drop. I think the ca. 2% droprate is about right.

You have to realize, if everyone farmed for gold instead of farming the living essences, there would be none on the AH anyway. So some people have to farm them, that's just life.

I killed 240 tar guys yesterday for just one essence. I know it's random and some people get luckier than others but sometimes random sucks. Dropped lots of health pots, and I gained 110,000XP in kills but somehow it felt like a waste.

been killing tar guys prolly over 150-200 mobs, not a single drop....

I usually farm these in Felwood when I'm sitting by the tuber spawn here. It helps pass the time and keeps you close by the spawn. I've gotten three tonight, I don't JUST farm for essences, but while I'm here..

EDIT: Oh, I forgot! Make sure you kill the Withered Protector (55/56) whenever he walks by. It has a higher drop rate off of him. Not a 10% or anything, but better than the normal elementals

yeah, i farmed in felwood on those trees for hours not even getting 1 and then i went to Un guru and killed those tar elemetnals for about 20 mins and i got 4-5 essence...drops are much better there

Tar Lords and Lurkers are definitely the best. I have never seen one of these drop in DM, but i farmed for 15 minutes (I was timing) and got 2.

I've just finished a farming session on theses guys. Killed just under 350 and got 6 Living Essences, confirming that the drop rate is still around 2% (15/04/06).

At one point I looted 3 within 15 minutes and thought "oh that won't be so hard", but that was followed by 90 mins of no drop.

Looted:
20 Hearts of the Wild in the process.
1 purple item (Lei of Lilies)
2 green weapons (lvl 49-51)
3 major healing pots
And a variety of crappy stuff.

i have been farming in the caverns in felwood for 3 hours... then i got two living essences in a row. what a silly game... why do we play it? i think i will just farm some money and hope that that chinese guy keeps filling the AH with living essences. and i still haven't got the larval acid... arghhhh

I farmed for 4 hours, and only got 1 essence... The next night i again farmed for 3 hours, and also got 1...

I just quit farming, went to go BRD a couple of times, and even some DM runs. After 4 nights I had enough money to buy the stuff I needed for HotW.

And big thanks to the chinees guy who put them there! ^^

i was in felwood doing the toxic horror droplets waiting for one to spawn just killd a tree for fun and wham! a living essence these things only go for 8-10g on my server (Dalaran)

Real good drop rates in Felwood killing the Warpwood's. They are pretty close to the FP in Felwood. In 30 min I got over 1g in cash, 2 Living Essence, and 4 Heart of the wild. Along with other stuff like Major Health Potion, and some random herbs.

Killed a few of those petal-guys in DM east. They are all at the beginning and easy to farm with a group of three. Nearly every group dropped one of them and I regret to have farmed them for hours for my hide of the wild.

Yeah, I went to Un'goro to grind the Tar Lords to start on my HotW and needless to say, just about every damn farmer was out there. I kid you not, there was not one Tar <xxxx> alive in all of Un'goro.

This is just my opinion but like someone said earlier, there are easier ways of making money than by killing endless mobs. What I do is wait until I need exp to level (L60s can stop reading at this point) and then start farming. Even if no essences drop it still won't be a wasted trip because I'll have got the exp I need.

Don't farm for no reason, it doesn't work often enough :p

Level 51 gnome fire mage... grinding tar elems in UnGoro... 3 living essences in a half hour.

And the mobs (50-54) die so quick due to fire vulnerability.

Were they trying to sell me on this place to grind and farm? Because they just did.

I still think the best place to farm in in felwood. The iron tree elementals constantly drop them every time i go through.

Well then. If you're a fire mage and not farming here, you need your head examined.

Pull with pyro, fireball, fire blast, the usual. As a gnome, the escape artist racial trait keeps you from getting slowed or rooted.

I just grinded from 51 to 56 on the tar elementals. (Lurkers and Lords). I farmed about 40 Living Essences, and with selling those, and vendor trash, garnered about 300g+. I went from all green items, to all but 2 blue items. At level 55, I periodically oneshotted them as well. (~2k Pyro crit + 1k DOT) Very fast, and not nearly as crowded as, say, WPL.

I can't speak for Felwood being worse or better, but Un'Goro tars are definitely the way to go for fire mages. I will be farming these for gold when I hit 60 for sure. Thanks to tracart in another thread (can't remember which...) for suggesting this.

Doing an escort quest in Felwood, I had to kill some of those Ironwood tree guys. I killed maybe 10 of them and got 2 essences. Didn't even know what they did, so I came here to see if they were worth a fuzz. Glad to see they are :D

I looted three Living Essence in about 15 minutes running around the Lakari Tar Pits in Un'Goro (and that was off less than 20 kills). The drop rate was actually better than what I was looking for, which was Heart of the Wild. I'm a level 55 Druid and ran through in cat form and all the kills were fairly quick.

Well, needless to say thottbot hasn't entirely updated their drop %s in lieu of the new expansion. SO...if ur 62 or there abouts this item drops at a fairly decent rate off the giants in the south western most area of Zangarmarsh. Since i wasn't looking for them when i got them i can't give u an exact idea, but I killed about 8 bog lord's for their tendrils and got two living essences. Hope that helps!

These are still valuble for AoE farming Paladins, they are used in the Life Stealing enchant.

back wen i was a lowbie and questing in swamp of sorrows, i used to get a fair few living essences, i hoarded them in my bank, and apparently i have a small fortune sitting there now... NW corner of the map

I farm mine in Felwood, in the Irontree cavern. Usually get at least 1 essence/hour but then again I'm a slow grinder (holy/disc priest).

First time i went into Irontree Cavern i got 2 in less than 10 mins. The second time i went i got 3 in 3 hours. I was there yesterday, spent 5 hours and only got 2 essences. They sell pretty good at the AH but i'm starting to think it's not worth the time.

I got 7 in less than 45min while i was farming motes of life, EXTREMELY EZ dropped nearly as much as the motes

I love dire maul, doesnt matter which side. Its one of my favorites. You can easily fund a small army with the drops. Of course, this depends on if you are stuck on a welfar server like Korialstrasz..lol

killed about 600 of those tar thingies (poor suckers) - did not get a single drop.
must have been a hard time for them, maybe they didn't enjoy their lives too much hence producing no single living essence :(

Those who know Dire Maul, LOVE Dire Maul. There are some of the most rare and useful drops in the game in there (pre MC) But, since it is a 5 man instance, it scares the hell out of most Ironforge PUGs. some guildies and I have spent afternoons just clearing it from front to back. Living Essences drop like candy in the Tree/Weed sections. you just have to take the time and clear the rooms.

#1 skill in the game: networking, networking, networking. the more hustling you do to get to know some good peeps, the easier the game is.

Just farm DM west. Easy doable with epic mage-pally combo, mage/druid or mage/shaman.
On average like 3-4 per hour drop :D

DM West is the best place to get these if you can get a group. Even a smaller group can farm the mobs that drop these.

I have to farm primal life constantly since I'm replacing my gear a lot in Kara and most of the +healing require a ton of primal life. I've gotten 45 in one day (about 4-5 hours of farming). I can't give them away. Completely stupid of Blizz to add these to the loot table of mobs in OUTLANDS! I would rather have 1 primal (or even just a few more motes) than 1000 of these things.
