Why can't Paladins use this? They have just as much (if not more) need for spell crit as any of these other classes.

It was designed a long time ago, and I'm pretty sure they'd change it if they looked back on it. Unfortunately the chances for that are pretty slim. I agree, though, that it shouldn't even have class restrictions.

I believe blizzard was trying to control the crit chance of paladins due to their 'free' crit heals.

They should really allow Paladins to get this again, since the Illumination nerf gives 60% instead of 100% base mana back now on crits

Usually trinkets which affect healing (instead of or addition to) damage spells will say as much. This only says "for spells". Does it work for healing spells as well?

Half the people I talk to say "of course it does, stfu noob" and the other half say "of course not, stfu noob".

The Eye of the Beast is cool considering mages need to increase their Int by 100 to increase their %Crit by 1%. Combining this with the Inventor's Focal Sword would make for good %Crits.

And healing spells DO crit (forget the "newbie" designation - it's a valid question). Sit in ogrimmar or ironforge and ask a bored priest to spam low level heals on you while you watch your Combat Log chat window. Sometimes MrPriest heals you for XYZ and occasionally he crit heals you for much more than normal.

To bad if pala cant get this cause if you are purely focusing on healing, the +2% spell crit is prety good.

A pala talent makes critical healing spells FREE healing spells.

Quest starts after killing end boss in LBRS. He drops a letter than anyone can loot as long as they dont already have the quest or did the quest. There are 3 rewards for this quest, I dont remember what the other two reward names exactly, but one is +10 Arcane Resist +1% chance to dodge. The other trinket is +2% chance to critical hit with melee attacks, this is called Blackhand's Breadth..I believe.

Thus, I don't think it can be shared in a raid. You'll have to do the pre-reqs (starts with Warlord's Command in Kargath).

This trinket is insane, period. I'm not really trying to compare it to ToEP/ZHC, or Neltharion's Tear, but Eye of the Beast is arguably the greatest mage/warlock trinket in the game. Not most uber, not "best," but greatest: It's not that hard to get, it doesn't require activation and thus renders you more powerful all the time, it's equally great in PvP and PvE, and it's at home with Tier 2. It's a keeper.

wtf? why cant paladins use this trinket? we are spell users too! Maybe 80% of the action i take in a fight or is spell-based! WTF blizz has to change this trinket to be used also for pallas AND shamans (wich already are)

would be a nice item for pallies, but it seems they forgot about us again...crit healing, dmg spells vs undead, holy shock, judgement dmg, etc...not sure, but it seems like it would effect crit rate on seal of command too (bread & butter of the melee pally)...items like this are why so many pallies roll on warrior gear :(

Since blizzard just shutdown Arthas in the middle of my rare LBRS run, I thought I'd throw in my two cents here for anyone aspiring to get this. It is not hard to get *granted* you can get a LBRS group. On my server all anyone ever does is UBRS. I've tried putting LBRS groups together, no success. Anyway, in LBRS you kill Overlord Wyrmthalak and he drops a note which takes you to an NPC listed above (Too lazy to check). That completes a quest, then you get a quest to kill General Drakisath (sp?) in UBRS. After completing that quest, you can choose this as your reward.

Sounds easy enough? I don't know what the deal is with the note. I killed Wyrmthalak twice and it hasn't dropped. A friend of mine was at my house doing LBRS on his character in a raid group and it dropped. It did not drop for me both times which were 5 man groups doing the Warlord's Command quest. Perhaps the note drops only in raid groups, I'm not sure. I've been trying to find that out here so if anyone knows please post on it. When the note does drop however everyone is able to loot it.

Actually 58.7 intelligence = 1% crit chance. I know it is wierd, but that's how it is. Either way, this is one of the best trinkets in the game for mages; get it.

I looked at this trinket and said "wow that doesnt even seem fair!" you know besides crit healing in groups priests do solo. So really, which is better, +30 healing or 2% crit? I would say the 2% crit, I dont give a crap what others say. Pallys could find better trinkets btw...

What I would like to know is why the hell do shamans get to use this trinket and paladins dont. sure shaman have more spells that they can use all the time, but paladins have spells as well. priest is up there too main healers and druids too so why not paladins? Im a healing paladin, my build is completely baced around spell crit and we cant get any trinkets that boost spell crit with out it beaing stupid cooldown Pos...

but my main thought is why should shamans get there shot at this fine trinket and paladins get left in the dark yet again.

The limitation of the choice of trinkets helps to remember that the paladin was never meant to be a healbot.

It is a great souvenir, even if the paladin class is yet often played by healbots, and yet, better played as it.

Hi i wanted to ask all you 'experts' one question.

If i have 2 trinkets:
eye of the beast and some other +spell dmg,
how "big" +spell dmg should be to make it better than 2%crit chance.

for instance is +20spell dmg better than 2% crit?

I don't know all wow spell dmg math but if i am not wrong then 2% crit is like 2 out of 100 spell that add 50% of regular spell dmg. so if my crit increase is 400, then 2% to chance get 400dmg is almost 8dmg/spell ( (400/100)*2 ). and +20dmg trinket average should be 10dmg/spell, is 2% chance to crit better anyway? I assume its better for PvP but for PvE maybe not, since you don't want to crit alot as caster and have same or better dmg...

this trinket is only worth when you have talents that get benefit from it, like priests, when they critical heal some1 it gets buffed with +30% armor, mages with frost and fire trees, paladins algo have talents to get good use of +crit.

but it is kind of crappy for druids, warloks, shamans, arcane mages, shadow priests...

Um... as of patch 2.0, all +X% crit descriptions seem to be replaced with this type of description.

I guess 28 maps to 2% to crit, but does anyone know why this change would have been made? 2% to crit seems more intuitive to me than 28 to the critical strike rating, especially since I have no idea what the 'total' rating is, or how it's calculated.

with a lot of new gear coming out and also new talent points, crittage could get more than blizz wants it to. Now you can have + 14 on something (=1%) and something else can have +8 (4/7 of a %) on something else. That adds up to 1.57142857142857142857142857142857% So it's easier to read +22 crit rating.

I sometimes sort of agree with people who claim that Blizz hates Pallys.

This item is available to ALL classes that can cast spells except pallys.

Now to all those who say that pallys aren't meant to be healbots, take a look at the Tier3 set you can collect in Naxxramas - it has +Stamina, +Intellect, +Healing and nothing else. This does send a simple message, doesn't it?

So first Blizz tells us we have no need for anything that improves our spells but later decides to tell us we're nothing more than healbots. Why can't I use this item if I choose to be a healbot but don't have any other choice but to become one when I collect my T3 set?

Either they're schizophrenic or just... stupid. And I still don't know what would be worse.

But the upcoming Burning Crusade sets look kinda promising, so I'm shutting the hell up.

I agree that this trinket needs to be re-evaluated for the horde paladin class. +SpellCrit is an essential part of paladin healing gear and this would be an invaluable item. Until it is fixed, this quest will sit in my logbook.

When I equip it at level 70 I do not see any changes in stats. Is it supposed to add % to crit with spells?

Does anyone know if Blizzard has removed the class restrictions on this yet? It would be a great trinket for my Holy Shock paladin, both for healing and for soloing.

Honestly, the whole class restriction thing seems stupid. I mean, why would a non-caster even want it?

from today's patch notes:

Items like the Eye of the Beast will correctly increase your spell critical hit chances.

If there was a problem, they fixed it...
