With casters paying 500g in the AH for a belt of the archmage for the 1% crit chance, you'd think there'd be an equal amount of people farming the elite dragons in the wetlands for these scales because they'd sell for mad for the Chromatic Cloak!

But no, 2 weeks and i've seen perhaps 3 on the AH, ranging from 1-4g each.

this Scale only drop from elite dragons and they are pretty hard to solo.. So u need a group for farm them and ofc they also want a part of the profit so in the end its not so much money in it... Took my guild mate 3 hours with a group of 5 to farm 30 of them .. say they sale for 2 G each thats 60 Gold and thna if every one gonna have a part each Than they only get 12 G each.

And 12 G in 3 hours thats not much

They're very easily soloable by dotting and fear kiting as a warlock, with imp out for extra damage. The meelee pets break fear every hit. Just apply agony and corruption before fearing. Then add imolation and deal 1 or 2 shadow bolts before fear breaks. fear, shadowbolt, repeat. I got from lvl 58 to 59 by killing them with a rested 1.5kxp per kill, and I do realize they're 57-59 elites on the outside. Less than a minute for each kill that dropped enough silver to pay for plenty of morning glory dew.

Saddly I didn't know they had to be skinned to drop what I needed. Now I'm back on them, skinning.

I rarely ever get hit by them.

i just realized my imp doesn't even affect them, they're immune to fire. So pardon me on that.
In addition, I was lucky in only fighting the noncasting dragons. the casters kick my $%#.

I soloed them all the way from my 58 to 59 as a shadow priest. Both the casters and non-casters are pieces of cake. Just spwn shield/fear/silence in the middle of mind blasts and they die fast. But the scale is a very rare drop...it's like 1 per 30 kills to skin it out afaik.

the drop rate is quite low tho

Put down freeze trap, aimedshot+multishot, when dragonkin gets trapped, cast growl with pet (only growl), FD, move back to range, trap, aimedshot+multishot again, when trapped, FD move to range again, etc...

For the casters you need to out-DPS them before they nuke you, and I think you have to tank them for half the fight and FD in middle to let pet tank for you.

Shaman Tactics for Red Scale Farming

Mages;
Grounding totem is a must, I advise setting one down before you fight and letting the cooldown come back around before you begin so you've got another one ot pop out instantly. The casters use fireball, flamestrike, fire blast, and one-shot arcane missles. The fireballs can be absorbed by grounding, but have the same cast animation as flamestrike, so its safest to interrupt fire spells. The flamestrike targets the ground so grounding wont work for it. The arcane missles are easily taken up by the grounding totem, but they usually dont use this unless they were previosuly interrupted by eath shock. Since fire blast is instant, its best to reserve your grounding hit for that.

Warriors;
Establish max attack range before engaging, then spam some lightning/chain lightning until they get to you. Stoneskin helps alot for these guys, as does fire resist totem since the fire ward effect annot be purged. Uusually a rotation of chain lightning + earth shock + lesser healing wave is enough to do good damage and keep you alive. If you want to use some of your nifty 2-handers on these guys, then i'll see you in the infirmary.

I am a shaman, and it is commonly known that we are the worst grind class in the game. Grinding these guys for red scales is just not effecive. I recommend you to buy the scales from the AH and save A LOT of time and repair costs.

First of all I'm a crit spec'd hunter with the +30% increased dmg when I crit and have a 29.5% to do it unbuffed. Any hunter can ride and FD their way through. Once U get outside Grim Batol it's Cake. Nice big open kiting area. 3700 HP/ 3500 MP.
Aimed - Multi - Freezing trap - Aimed - Multi - Stay in cheetah and it's easy. FR for ur pet is a must. Drop rate isn't great but it's good enough that if u get a few stacks of conjured food and water. You can stay out there for hrs. Take plenty of arrows! Pst If you can kite these guys you can also kite Dreamtracker outside the Emerald Dream porter in Seradane (Northern Hinterlands) once you get the path right.

This seems to be much easier than the above comments say it used to be. Granted, I'm a lvl 70 combat rogue, but I've been playing solo for about half an hour killing the lvl 60-62 elite Wyrmkin Firebrands and Scalebane Lieutenants further inside the gates (88,59) and I have 8 red dragonscale.

However, it is likely this is because I'm skinning, so bear that in mind if you're going to have a go.

the drop rate on these, after the last 2 patches has been raised from about 0.5% to 5/6% much better to grind

i hate these dam things already, im the only one that can make the cheastpiece and im trying to make em for all my guild shamen, so wheve been here all week, which something worthwild drop from the dragonkin while whare waiting on the scales
