This item is obsolete due to the expansion pack. The items you need to use cured rugged hide for are the following:

Actually, this item is for making Refined Deeprock Salt. You do NOT need it for making Cured Rugged Hide.
If you wish you can buy the Refined Deeprock Salt and Rugged Hide from the AH and make the Cured Rugged Hide without ever having to touch the Salt Shaker.

For creating a Refined Deeprock Salt you need the Salt Shaker along with a Deeprock Salt. Which drops from: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=8150

If your guild is large enough it could be useful to have one stored in the guild bank for communal use by leatherworkers, since the cooldown is per character. Saves on mat costs and bag space.

Note: The Salt Shaker will only make one refined salt every 3 days, so if u were like me and was hoping that it would turn my whole stack of Deeprock Salt into refined salt, wont work. I fugured it wouldnt work but like i said i was hoping! so plz dont down mark, just trying help out other noobs.

So am I correct in assuming that if I had two of these I would still only be able to get one refined salt every three days?

I mean really... I have about 30 rugged hides sitting in the bank, and they are just about worthless unless they are cured.

90 days to cure all my hides is laaaaame.

2.4.2 seems to have lowered the cooldown from 3 days to 2 days and 22 hours.

absurd.i was just thinking to do tier3 for my rogue.i need 42 cured rugged hide,but this 2 days and 22 hrs cooldown is absurd.

Yeah the CD on this is awful.

In my old guild the salt shaker was kept in guildbank to make sure all LW could use it when their CD was up.

On my server the mats for this run 15-20 G's

But I was able to get an Engineer to make this for 9 G.

The timer to create the refined deeprock salt is on each toon, not each salt shaker. Cooldown timer is 3 days to reuse. Think of it as being similar to the 4 day timer for a tailor to create 1 mooncloth from 2 felcloth.

These things sell like hotcakes as leatherworkers begin to reach high lvls.

I started making these on proudmoore horde side, probably made 200g off of them easily.

one of the first posts on this page asked the question "if you made 5 salt shakers, could you use all 5 and make 5 refined deeprock salts?". well obviously no you can't but that does bring up another possibility...

the cooldown itself is assigned to the toon, not the saltshaker, as one post pointed out near after comparing the salt shaker to a tailor's mooncloth purification skill.

so this means that you CAN have multiple characters use the same salt shaker... since the salt shaker in fact does not bind on equip or on pickup...

Saltshaker does not Bind at all...

- use the salt shaker, hand it to another leather worker -

"puff puff give!"

The timer on the Salt Shaker is, in fact, tied to the character and not the item.

I "recruited" 3 people to make salt for me and paid them 1g each. I then sold the salt for 5g each making a profit of 12g in a matter of 15 minutes.

The problem lies in finding LW's with a 250+ skill who do not already have a salt shaker. I recommend standing in IF or SW (alliance, of course) on a busy day and spamming the hell out of "Need Leatherworker (250+)! Will pay generously!"

Deeprock salt is easy to find btw, if you are horde just kill some elementals near kargath (while waiting your group for BRM instances, for example)

The total Raw material you need to make this:

- 6x Thorium Bar
- 7x Mithril Bar
- 8x Solid Stone
- 1x Gold Bar (a third exactly)
- 4x Mageweave Cloth

I really appreciate the guy who made it for me on Arygos. I bought most of the mats at the AH for 20g (thorium is expensive), then found out I didn't have enough mithril. He threw it in for the tip I offered.

I tried buying another one and the cooldown sticks to the toon - no multiple shakers. My only question is can you shake stacks of deeprock or does it only do one individual item?

Hopefully its a stack! Otherwise 3 days! Bit nasty :S Got 2stacks of rugged hide in the bank, really don't wanna take 2 months to process them >< (i know I dnt need to but damnit, its what I do!)

You can only "refine" one deeprock salt at a time
So you make 1 Refined Deeprock Salt in 3 days. Pretty slow... if you need a lot

Friend of mine wanted to make Refined salt - my shaker was on cooldown - just traded the Deeprock Salt + the shaker to her.

If you need lots of Refined salt - you only need 1 shaker as you can post it between your own toons, or to guildies with LW

The cooldown for this is shared, so if you have two salt shakers you will have to wait 3 days in between using either of them.

I made the mistake of buying two, only to have to reauction one of them.

Where do you get the recipie? Who drops it? What vendor sells the pattern?
What trainer will train you in the skill? How do you get the pattern? where does the pattern drop? Does the pattern drop off a mob drop? What mob drops the pattern? Does the pattern: Salt Shakers even exist?

Say you had 2 characters 1 is an engineer and he made 2 salt shakers and the other character is a leatherworker. If the engineer sent the leatherworker a salt shaker and let him make salt then have the leatherworker send the shaker back then the engineer sends the other salt shaker and they do this over and over again. Would the cool down still be on the newly recived one? Or would you have to go out and find a lot of willing lether workers?

Im A Druid Leatherworker(Lvl 260) and am starting to get the hide drops requiring deeprock salt.

From time to time I have looked for a saltshaker in the AH but never found one. I have, however, found Deeprock Salt.

At 12G, what's the advantage of the shaker? Does it manufacture its own, never ending supply of deeprock salt? How many shakes before the cooldown?

i dont know about anyone else but the price to get one of these things just doubled or tripled on my server due to high thorium prices. seems that all the higher lvl miners stopped putting up thorium on the azeroth ah's and prices skyrocketed which makes getting one of these things very expensive. i think i spent 15g to have one made, it pay off in the end instead of having to buy individual refined deeprock salts off the AH but still...
