You can farm this quite easily from the first named Guard in DM North. One of the better tank shoulders once you first hit 60. It has good stats and a decent amount of defence.

While you're farming DM North you may as well a decent tanking 1h axe off him as well:

Because the guy who drops them is the first named in the northern instance. You only have to kill two dog pats an can kill him - he's quite easy though.
After that leave and let someone else from you group invite...
We did it 8 times or something to get the key of that guy, but the shoulders dropped as well. Unfortunately, our Pally got them and I still have to wear the Imperial Shoulders... Maybe next time ;)

I specifically ground Guard Mol'dar for several hours every few days. He drops utter crap alot of the time, but you can get class tomes and about 4 or 5 decent blues from him. Actually you only need to fight one mob at the very beginning of the instance (assuming you have 4 or 5 people)one person can then wait for the dog patrol to pass and run near Mol'dar to aggro him (works best for pallys with the boomerang as they can shield to prevent him from doing a knockdown stun) then run back up to the entrance of the instance to fight him. Our guild groups got this down to the point where we could kill him and restart the instance in less than 5 minutes.

I understand that after 1.4 patch Mol'dar no longer class tomes...guess Blizz wised up to the fact you could grind this guy for tomes easily *sigh* knew I should have kept at him till I got my pally trinket. Oh, and he no longer can drop Furor's Compendium of Dragonslaying either, major letdown.

pallies would always go for the LF more than these......always better stats.... ITS ALL ABOUT THE SETS!

Calling the tier 1 sets "mediocre" is practically a compliment.
"Highly overrated" is much closer.
"Hilariously generic" is even better, as it seems that every single one of the big-guild warriors on my server (Uldum) is wearing either the Spaulders of Valor or Lightforge, (which is piles of lol).

Farming Mol'Dar for these shoulders and the Hedgecutter axe has become a Rite of Passage for would-be tanks in my guild. Every warrior in our guild either has them but can't wear them yet or is wearing them now.

Simply put, they are argueably the best non-MC non-Epic warrior shoulders in the game.

Period.

I've run maybe 40-50 runs as well, and I haven't seen thoose damn shoulders drop yet!

Seriusly suspecting that it has been removed from this guy... -.-

Does anybody know if the first guard still drops these? I was told he no longer drops blue items, but some caster bracers just dropped.

If he does drop the shoulders still (somebody confirm a drop since 1.9?) then I can convince guildies to go.

the most acurate way to find out how much he drops it is to kill him. the top one sais 4000 kills with a 4% drop rate. that means that for every 40 times you kill him he drops it i think. i *!@#ing hate math so w.e but the point is the 4000 is pwnzer sauce. its about 4%. that is if it still drops. like the guys above said. no one has seen the shoulders for a couple of patches. and i dont know when they killed him 4ooo times.

Just did a tribute run last night. After the run my group went out and reset the instance. First kill on Mol'Dar dropped the Bulky Iron Spaulders. I'm a very happy prot-spec dwarf.

After reading this forum, I had to see if i could get them for myself. After about 45 tries this dude finally droped them. So, 2.22% drop rate for me. Thanks to my guildies who kept renewing the group as ppl got bored and left. With a 4 man, you can take him out pretty easy in 5-8 minutes, depending on how long the patrols take. Take out the 2 patrols that walk by the entrance. (to avoid stupid wipes) Take out the dogs on the right at the bottom of the ramp. Kite Mol'dar to entrance and kill. Oh, the +stam axe dropped twice, a couple other blues also droped and a bunch of green junk.

Mol'dar the first gaurd in DM north and slip'kik also same instance sill drop them i got mine and my friend (paladin) and also got his same run but fom diffrent gaurds i was amazed to see them drop cause i heard very drop rate but here we go :) iam very happy warrior

Avoid the first pat and roaming pat, run down the stairs and aggro the right dogs. The dogs spawn in packs of 4 or 5. Kite them to the entrance, kill, wait for the 2 pats to pass again, kite the guard to the entrance, kill. Takes 8min w/ 2 ppl (dps/healer).

I hear they don't look like anything special, just iron colorod bulky shoulders, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone confirm if these spaulders still drop off the 1st guard in DM North (Guard Mol'dar)? We've killed him a good 40 times now and he hasn't dropped these or the Denwatcher shammy shoulders even once. Have the two shoulders been moved to the 2nd guard perhaps?

Bulky Iron Spaulders and Denwatcher Shoulders both still drop from the first guard in DM North, did maybe 10 runs and got both on my pally, one for solo and one for heaaling gear... waiting/hoping to get them restored by blizzard after account was hacked -_-

Okay have done this boss 15 times and no shoulders. Had the ax drop 4 times (3 times in a row), the cloth bracers twice, the nose ring 4 times, a green gun, a green set of gloves and a leather belt.

of course he is an easy pull and reset mob, but now Blizz only lets you do 5 runs before they wise up on ya and tell you to go home.

I cam across these playing my warrior (prot spec, terenas eu) but they were won by a paladin (much to my dismay). No offence to any of you pallys out there but i really think you should begin passing on this type of gear, if a prot spec warrior needs them. Then again, thats just my opinion ^^

Drops off the first guard in north Dire MAul. if you get a good group u can easily farm him once every 5 min till he drops it.
