i found that even though the strikers have a higher drop rate they tend to not drop anything a lot more and so that puts the drop rate off quite a bit,where as the crushers dropped something everytime making it quicker to get the meat

Crushers have this annoying knockdown/dropped weapon move. But other than taht easy to kill. Drop rate for both is horrid. About 40 kills and only have 8.

I think the drop rate on the Striker is nerfed. I killed 24 and had 3 drop. On the Crushers I killed 18 and had 5 drop.

That would make the Striker a 12% drop rate and the Crusher a 28% drop rate

Farm the level 55 Dredge Strikers to the NE of the hold.

Drop rate of meat for me looks like around 15-20%. High drop on WoWhead is a site bug so it don't count a loot then mob drop nothing at all.

I just killed about 25 dredge strikers and crushers and the sandworm meat dropped 3 times. I will look elsewhere for my cooking needs.

Ok, I too got stuck in the "I'm at 275 cooking and I don't fish" problem, to which there are only two solutions:

1) Go to Dire Maul East and get Runn Tum Tubers recipe, or

2) Get up to 285 by buying fish from others and go to Silithus for the Desert Dumpling quest.

I chose #2. After buying a stack of lobster for 15g (!), I headed to Silithus. Man, I killed every Dredge Striker I could find, as I learned on they might have a better drop rate on the sandworm meat than the Crushers.

I killed them for about 45 min and here's what I got:

21 slimy ichor
8 gelantinous goo
1 green item, and...
5 sandworm meats.

I'd say about 20% of the time they didn't drop anything at all. Whoever said the drop rate was 45% is nuts! If it hadn't been for the large number of sandworms to the northeast of Cenarian Hold, I would have given up entirely.

And there's a quest that requires 10 of these for the innkeeper. Recommendation: kill every worm you see while you are out doing other quests. If you set out to get 10 of these, it would take a couple hours straight, I bet.

I bought Winter Squid from the AH to level from 275 to 285. Cost me a darn 15g, but I guess people realize that a lot of cooks don't want to fish (c'mon, it's sooo boring!) and raise the prices. At 285 I went to Silithus do get the quest to do this. Luckily, I had already quested in Silithus so I had 6 Sandworm Meat to begin with. I spent about 35 minutes killing the worms and I got the 9 remaining Meat to cook to 300. I think about 1 out of 5 or maybe 6 kills dropped Meat.

I was 'lucky' in that I still got XP from these worms, so I got something else out of it too. However these worms do not drop anything else. Only goo and ichor, sometimes even nothing at all.

Around 36,33 (Hive'Ashi) the drop rate was much better!

If you're farming these, whether for the cooking quest, eating, or AH, do yourself a couple of favors.
At the area SE of Cenarion Hold, where the 55-56 Dredge Strikers are:
First, take a skinner alt instead if you have one, or a guildie/friend etc.
You need to kill the spiders, scorpids, and strikers as you're cleaning house. They seem to be on a similar or semi-shared respawn, and if you only kill strikers, you will be spending a lot of time doing nothing.
The spiders also drop spider meat which a 12-stam buff when cooked. AND have chance of dropping the valuable silks.
The scorpids are well, pretty useless except for skinning, but skinning can drop you the Heavy Scorpid Scale which does sell quite well.
ALSO, if you have a skinner, while you're clearing, kill the ghosts along the edge - Tortured Sentinel and Tortured Druid. Most of the time they call a wasp at death, and this can be skinned for chance at Silithid Chitin or Light Silithid Carapace, both of which sell well on the AH.
Make use of your time.

These are used in the creation of Desert Dumplings which bestow a wonderful 20 strength to your character, highly sought after by melee classes. Because of this sandworms are a literal gold mine, I'm fetching 2.50g - 3.20g for each meat on Netherwind US and they fly off of my listings tab like no tomorrow. I average about 40-45 meat in one hour, so the math comes out to around 80-90 gold an hour, not including vendor trash and other drops you may get. I am surprised the worms are not being farmed out constantly, they seem untouched by most players.

Dredge Striker 38/122 31%
Dredge Crusher 541/1869 29%.

The best place I have found to farm them is 55, 18. Good amount! The drop rate is ok, not as bad as some say, but not the greatest. I would comfortably say 20% ish
