Ok, no matter what, it's a better shadowbolt. So where does it come from? Vendor or drop? I haven't even heard about this. Please do tell if you know.

What makes this new rank great is that it's still actually MORE mana efficient than Rank 9 even if you have a lot of +damage gear.

Normally, once you load up on +damage gear, the higher ranks of spells become less mana efficient than the lower ranks. This happens because you get the same +damage bonus regardless of the rank of the spell.

For example, if you have +300 damage gear, Rank 8 Shadow Bolt is more mana efficient than Rank 9. Here's a simplified example:

In fact, you'll find that with this much +damage gear, every lower rank is more mana efficient than the ranks above it.

Now compare Rank 9 with Rank 10 using the same +damage value (300):

After Gear	738	767
Mana	370	380
Damage per Mana	1.99	2.02

Thanks to the very small mana increased mana cost of Rank 10, it's actually more mana efficient than Rank 9!

In case you were wondering - the crossover point where Rank 9 again becomes more mana efficient is around +700 damage gear.

We got Shadow Bolt 10 off Kurinnaxx with no warlocks in the group, lol. Grats Sacred guild bank! (Horde)

I have been using this new rank for a week on icecrown and with +400 damage gear and tallisman of ephemerial power non-crit bolts are landing for an average of 1077 with crits routinely landing for 3000+ and some appoaching 4000. Problem is I have been jumping straight to the top of the aggro list in 20 and 40 man raids and immeadiatley die. Be careful what you wish for.... :)

easy, if you start plling put both ranks on the toolbar and switch between the two. So if you have one massive crit back off and use the weaker one.

wtf if your only hitting for 700 then you neeed new gear... i hit with rank 9 for about 1000 and i dont really have that great gear

I have SM/Ruin talent.
I talented back from DM/Ruin, which gives more dmg, but i aggroed too much, so i decided to switch back a bit, and with this i have some pvp options too.

I have 2 T1s, no T2 and T3, only ZG epics, i have 449 shadow dmg up, and i shoot around 1200, with ZHC around 1400.

My critline records
2009 non crit shadow bolt
3987 crit shadow bolt

both into the same Molten Destroyer.
No shadow Priests or any potion.
I have only rank9 SB, not rank10.
And i think if i am lucky i could shoot about 2100/4200, but i wasnt.

The posters above me have much more gear.
The Question is
WTF are you doin?

You should shoot waaaaay greater shadow bolts than me.

Just fill in what you're looking for. Sort it on Item Level Increasing, so that the highest level gear comes last. Those will only drop from the high-end instances anyway.

Choose the right Talents. Demonology Warlocks get some dmg boosts, Affliction gets a Shadowdmg boost, Destruction gets Imp. ShadowBolt and Ruin.

It might be wise to go for Quest Rewards with +spell dmg. Those get you lvl'ed and get you the +dmg gear while you're at it.

If you are in a Guild, go with some better geared members. They are more like to Greed items you Need.

Go for instances a lot. I lvl'ed my Warlock just by taking Quests in instances and go to instances all the time. For the last so many lvl's at least.

Set bonuses usually give +dmg aswell. Just remember that it might not be worth the effort to go grind all of it. But that's something you need to decide for yourself.

When I turned lvl60, I tried looking up some things I want to go for. I'm not there yet, but I've also got some nice drops in between that are not bad at all.
Still looking for ZHC & Charm Of Destruction, Kris of Unspoken Names, more crit gear, more enchants, etc..

Highest Immolate Crit = 1048 (unbuffed, Rank7)
Crit% overall is around 20% (unbuffed, rarely casting SearingPain)

Some people like to do high damage in their DoT Spells, some people like there pets to do lots of damage, some people just like to bomb the crap outta you! What I have works for me, 19-0-32, not shadow damage bombing, I often just go for Immolate, Corruption, CoA, Conflagrate, and if Shadow Trance kicks in, an instant shadow bolt, then if they are still alive, id use Shadowburn that would kill someone often because, if you have the right stuff, (High int, Eye or the Beast and if there is a balance druid in your group with moonkin aura ) Your crit chance is extremely high! if you crit with shadowbolt, youll hit from 1-1.8k damage, if you crit with conflagrate, thats 1-1.6k damage, and you also have DoTs on, then if you ALSO have Shadowburn, and if you crit with that, thats 1-1.3k! by this time they would be dead unless they have been healed, and all of these skills are (or can be ) instant casts, and this is also without much +Spell Damage equips on you, you can do around 4-6k within 5 seconds. (All of these damage calculations are also with the Ruin Talent)
And dont get me started on crits with Soul Fire and Curse of Elements!

Isnt it a waste to buy that book of shadow bolt if ppl are leveling to 70, then you can get it at your warlock trainer?

With TBC there is a lvl 11 Shadowbolt. So this is not the highest rank anymore... will it still be on trained by epic book or will trainers give it?

For your Information, Warlocks got 3 new spell update(as did every class). Warlocks got Shadow Bolt Rank 10, Immolation Rank 8 and Corruption Rank 7.

Shadow Bolt got a 9.66_(average) damage per second increase
11.6 damage with Bane

Corruption got a 7.8 damage per second increase
8.66_ damage with Improved Corruption

Immolation got a 2.71 DPS increase over the full duration:
-10.5 dps increase on casting(initial damage) only
-1.66_ dps increase on the DoT only
2.79(16.66_/1.66_) damage with Bane

Shadow Bolt got a 10 mana cost per cast increase.
Corruption got a 50(!) mana cost per cast increase.
Immolation got a 10 mana cost per cast increase.

This will be an item that drops in the 20 man AQ instance. If I'm correct, these kind of grimoires drop of bosses. Each class has 3 different ones. Warlocks have Shadowbolt, Immolate and Corruption.

I got mine yesterday. I am a casual player in a small guild so I never thought I'd get it, but someone put it on AH, so I grabbed it and ran to Alterac for PVP test.

I am SM/Ruin specced, with 35 +dmg in sucky equipment.

Regular SB hits against decent lvl 60 players went from a little over 500 on average to a little over 600 on average. Crits went from avg 1000-1100 to 1200-1350, and one hit Grouchy (ally lock on Shattered Hand) for 1542. Dead as yesterdays news.

Can you tell that I lub the new SB?

They sell it for 350-600g at AH on my serv... and i'm not a lucky one on drops/rolls... :( corruption seems to have a lower drop rate, 'cause there are always immolate and shadowbolt grimoires, but i never saw a corrution grimoire. I'm ah NF/conflag specced lock, so all three would be a great up for me. Well, immolate would be useful in pvp only :o.

This is an obsolete item since TBC, because you can train Shadowbolt rank 10 and 11 from any warlock trainer.
