I love it on thott how people just say oh just go get this or that, pass on this...Like it is that easy.

To say to a warrior who tanks should pass on this item when they have a redoubt cloak is absurd. Dragon's blood cloak is not for tanking either, I would prefer it for pvp. (Plus I am in a guild that has killed rag atleast 15 times or so and we havent seen one dragon's blood cloak, so don't hold your breath.)

This is a great cloak for tanking as is the rare one from the hexxer. But as far as ZG, AQ 20, and MC go this is the best tanking cloak available.

Yes the +stam would lead one to say the dragon's blood is good for tanking, but +stam is good for any class. Plus the dragon's blood has no defense, no chance to parry, and no chance to dodge. Any tanking cloak needs atleast one of those, if not 2. So to say to a tank to wait for the dragon's blood is idiotic. +def is what keeps tanks alive.

I'm not opposed to feral druids getting this, but if your tanks want it, it should go to them first.

I would prefer this cloak to Dragon's Blood Cape for Melee encounters.

However for the magic heavy fights in BWL (those without Shadow Flame) and elsewhere Dragon's Blood Cape is my cloak of choice. Not only does it have a little bit of resistance to several schools of magic it also has lots of stamina. Stamina isn't just for PvP. It's good for any PvE content where magic damage is the primary concern.

Very good tanking cloak, and even better with the +threat enchant or +1% chance to dodge enchant. :)

The elementium threaded cloak is better. +20 str = +1 block value, this dosn't even give you one block value. You are .76 higher dodge with elementium threaded cloak. you do gain .26 parry, but it's not worth losing more armor than the elementium cloak.

Aren't going to find much better than this. Also, it's almost exactly the same as the AV Honored cloaks for PvP, which isn't that great, but it's not terrible.

This is a great cloak for tanking.

Comparing it to the Elementium Threaded Cloak, it has only 1 less sta but +12 str and only 34 armor difference. The main point point people point out is the +2 dodge vs +1 dodge and +6 def.

I would take +6 def since each def point is .04% chance to dodge, block, parry, and be missed. This means 6 def adds up to .96% of damage mitigation as well as .24% chance not to be crit. Also, I have found that the game considers a block as a hit that can not be crit or a crushing blow.

Compared to elementium threaded cloak, you gain the following:
24 AP
0,6 block value
0,24% parry
0,24% block
0,24% crit reduction (reduces the chance you will suffer critical hits)

And lose the following:
34 armor
1 stamina
0,76% dodge

All in all, in terms of survivability the elementium threaded cloak perhaps wins ever so marginally. But the crit reduction is a nice thing as long as you are below 440 defense (the amount that makes you avoid all critical hits from lvl 63 mobs including bosses) since it removes incoming damage spikes.
Anyway, you gain in terms of generating threat which is also highly important for tanking.

This is AQ20 loot I heard, any idea what boss...a damn good cape. Comparable to Cloak of the Golden Hive which is AQ40?

These are the best two tank cloaks in the game IMO.

This cloak is a little bit better than the Elementium Threaded Cloak unless you have enough defense skill and you dont have problems with holding aggro.

As Secured mention before me each points of defense skill means 0,04% dodge,parry,block chance, 0,04% be missed chance and 0,04% to not to be afflicted by a critical hit. Not counting the block chance this means you have 0,96% dmg mitigation(6x4x0,04). The Block chance reducation isnt 0,24% because you cant block every hit. Anyway if the game really consider a block not to be critted or crushed than maybe it can be a 0,24% dmg reduction too(0,96+0,24=1,20%).
After all we have approximatelly 1% dmg mitigation maybe a little bit more.
Now lets see the stamina and armor. The Elementium cloak has 1 more stamina(this means 10 Hp) and 34 armor, but the Sandstorm cloak has 12 strength which adds melee AP and extra block value. 1 strength means 2 melee AP so this cloak gives us 24 AP and according to this formulas X = maybe the 12 strength gives us about 0,5 extra block value. With the extra AP(more dps) we can build and hold aggro faster and better! Dont forget white dmg generate painfull aggro!

Lets see the conclusion!

The Elementium Threaded Cloak focuses only to avoid the dmg completely(+2% dodge) and a little dmg reduction(169 armor) and gives us some stamina of course(13). So this cloak is wonderful thoose who has enough defense skill(400+++) or dont bothering suffer a crit because their armor and health is pretty much enough.
Now the Sandstorm cloak gives us everything what we needs when we tanking. Its dmg mitigation and avoiding are equal to the Elementium cloak. And! Sandstorm cloak gives us strength which means aggro!

With warriors all packing the cloaks off Rag and Chromaggus i'm going to restrict this to Hunters only in my guild.
Why? well wearing this i'll be able to tank effectively with my dodge build. i pack about +60 defence and have actually tanked Nefarion.

The 6 Defense on this claok give 0.24% Dodge, making it 1.24% on this, vs. 2% on the Chromaggus one, leaving out the .24% Parry, .24% Block and migtation in critchance provided by +Def.
I'd say 1% Dodge and 6 Def pretty much make up for 2% Dodge after all, I remember I saw some calculations which said that 7 Defense is comparable to 1% Dodge or Parry.

Taking the Defense soft "cap" at 415, I guess you'd take Chromaggus' cloak if you already reached a certain (high) amount of Defense, and this one if you don't :)

And.. go farming Guardian Stones for +1% Dodge Enchant :>
