what doesn't make sense, is why would a warlock be melee'ing in the first place? the +30 fire damage is alright, but no stats makes this a very poor relic.

ok, so the chance on melee hit is kinda dumb for a lock, but 30 fire damage in your wand slot is awesome for a fire destro lock. Me thinks tempest keep and beyond are the only places to find wands with comparable damage.

This point is mute to affliction/demonology/shadow destro locks.

The mana wyrms in Karazhan are immune to the proc.

There is one and only one occasion in the game where this item is useful. The Risen Aberrations in Scholomance are immune to all non-holy magical damage, including damage from wands. Therefore in order to damage them a warlock must melee. It is advisable to utilize a firestone to increase melee DPS. This is the one and only occasion where the melee proc is actually useful.

yes i agree these are rather pointless items at lvl 70. i remeber playing with melee firestoning when i was lvling, but in a raid it's totally not viable. nor in pvp really.

I do like the conjuring idea though. What blizz should have maybe done is boost just a single specific stat on the conjured offhands (so as not to be too imba and make ppls epic wands etc worthless) that could be used in different situations as needed. For example a stone with high spell hit, for raid bosses (if you lack +hit that is). A pure stamina one maybe. And give the existing Spellstone a healthier chunk of crit on it maybe.

Add some new cool warlock quest to get the spell for the new stones and i'd be sold on them :-)

Fun to use if you're melee duelling another caster (don't ask), but otherwise almost completely useless.

I think you guys are a *little* bit harsh on this item. Of course the melee proc is pointless and you lose the ability to wand but why would you be wanding as a warlock anyway?

As a high level warlock you're only filling the wand slot with something to buff your stats and for a destruction firelock 30 damage is not to be sneezed at. Compare it with a rare level 70 group quest reward like Jeweled Rod. With that you've got 18 extra stam, with this you've got 15 extra damage. I wouldn't think anyone was insane for taking the firestone.

Of course once you're an established raider you'll get something like Wand of the Forgotten Star with superior all-round stats but ... meh, it makes your weapon go all firey, come on it's worth it for that alone.

i wonder if this will stack with the shammys wep enchant spells, when TBC is out there will be alot of alliance making draenei shams. the Draenei have a added bonus to jewlcrafting im guessing this is made with that. meaning you have a dreanei shamman with this item which is pointless coz shammans have spells that add elemental dmg bonuses >.<

So is the first equip buff of this item to encourage melee...warlocks? I'd imagine more often than not their spells being stronger than their melee attacks, not to mention they're squishy, so with any luck, they're not in close range combat for all too long.
