For those unfamiliar with the previous potions, this sort of +armor potion is QUITE useful during the "enrage" portion of some melee bosses. It lasts 2 minutes and can be consumed every 2 minutes, meaning you can keep it up as long as you want (as long as you don't mind drinking money).

The materials for this are brutal. The Ancient Lichen is found only in Outland instances or very rarely by herbalizing certain corpses. That's why these cost 10G each.

If they're too much, consider a Greater Stoneshield Potion, instead, which gives 2000 armor instead of 2500. The materials can be farmed solo without killing anything. The best catch rate on the Stonescale Eels is on the deep water islands in Azshara around midnight.

As above comments have said these potions are used forever. REPEAT forever. Used them myself many many times in end game content Im sure the pots + wonderful healers saved my life many times during crushing melee fights. Also good for undergeared tanks and cheaper than a repair bill when 2500 armor is better than some almost lvl 60~ shield. I recommend for use on bog lords in underbog everyone hates those no?

Warriors, Druids and Paladins should be constantly under the effect of this potion on hard-hitting bosses.

For Druids:

/showtooltip Ironshield potion
/script if GetSpellCooldown("Dire bear form")==0 then CancelPlayerBuff("Dire bear form") end;

/use Ironshield potion
/cast Dire bear form

This macro will check whether you are under global cooldown, and if you're not it will use the potion and shift you back to bear. Do not spam it, or you will get stuck in tauren form. Just click it once.

The mitigation cap is way over 25,000 armor. Against level 70 mobs it's around 31,000 and against raid bosses and level 73 mobs it's nearly 36,000. Consider the case of a 70 feral druid with 32,000 armor tanking a raid boss:

Without potion:
32,000 armor = 72.79% mitigation
you take 27.21% of the damage he'd deal to an unarmored target.

With potion:
34,500 armor = 74.26% mitigation
you take 25.74% of the damage he'd deal to an unarmored target.

The increased mitigation of 1.47% doesn't seem like a big number, but when mitigation is already in the 70's, every bit makes a huge difference. If a boss hits for 15,000, it would do 4,081 damage to the druid with 32,000 armor (roughly what Gruul hits my druid for after a few grows). Using the potion and increasing total mitigation by 1.47% reduces the damage he takes by 220.5 per hit. Over two minutes that's a crap ton of damage nullified. Way more useful than a super healing potion (especially since druids can't pop them when they need them the most anyway).

Admittedly the effect is less for warriors and poorly equipped druid tanks. Also, druids can only use it in fights like Gruul and The Lurker Below where they can shift out of bear form momentarily to use the potion every two minutes.

These numbers were computed from formulas found on wowwiki, they worked for me in game when I tested them on my own armor and mitigation.

As useful as it may be for boss fights for well-geared druid tanks, armor's effectiveness is a exponentially decaying stat with a limit of 75%. As your mitigation approaches 75%, each point of armor becomes less effective at adding additional mitigation. What this means in terms of the effectiveness of this potion is that it actually is MORE effective on tanks with less armor, as they are further from the mitigation cap to begin with. In most scenarios, it will be much more effective for the paladin and warrior tanks a(for whom it is VERY useful) whose armor is generally further from the cap than feral druids. As an alchemist on Turalyon I can generally make 3-5 times the mat cost by selling this potion on the auction house, due to the rarity of the recipe (rare drop in the non-heroic version of a dungeon most players only do once) and the demand for this quite excellent consumable.

If you're a Druid tanking something big you might as well drink this just before the start of the fight. You're not likely to need your potion CD while you're in bearform anyway, and shifting out to drink...might be bad.
