I just got this last night, dropped on Karazhan trash. I never knew the potion existed until now. Looks like something a mage would want to pop when the Curator goes into evocation or something along those lines.

Also its strange that this provides a flat 2% spell critical strike chance. I thought Blizzard was getting away from that and going more for crit rating than crit %.

Just a comment regarding the % vs rating,

Because ratings are rounded (usually down), sometimes 22.08 rating will be less than 1% crit. By making buffs static, buffs don't get hurt by having a certain rating before the buff so that you get the full effect.

The reason for a percent critical strike rather than a rating is because this potion can be used at levels 60-70.
At level 60, 14 spell crit rating = 1% crit.
At level 70, 22.1 spell crit rating = 1% crit.

If they were to change this potion to spell crit rating, they would have one of two issues:

A) If they wished to make it so at level 60 you gained 2% crit through rating, this potion would only give 28 spell crit rating, which is slightly more than 1% crit at level 70.
B) If they wished to make it so at level 70 you gained 2% crit through rating, this potion would give 44.2 spell crit rating, which would be 3.15% chance to crit at level 60.

As you can see, if the potion used crit rating the inconsistencies of crit percentages between the levels 60 through 70 would vary, causing this potion to be more powerful towards level 60 and become weaker at 70. But because this potion drops from 70-level mobs, it should be equally or more beneficial to use it at level 70. Hence, we have a flat crit percentage.

From a Caster DPS Standpoint

These are an absolute must for fights that involve high sustained DPS during the fight such as Brutallus (approx 1800 DPS minimum). As stated before these do have a shared cooldown with the other potions in the game which may be discouraging to use these in the stead of say a Mana or Health Potion. My advice would be to use a rotation to keep both your health/mana up as well as get this temporary buff. When using Destruction Potions, rely on the Healthstone to keep yourself up, then you can rotate this (to economize your usage of stones) with Super Rejuvenation Potions and a Trinket such as Hex Shrunken Head, The Skull of Gul'dan or Icon of the Silver Crescent. While not perfect, this, in my opinion, is the best way to maximize your uptime for spell damage/ spell crit buffs as well as keep your health and mana up.

And guess what, I'm an alchemist!! ;) Just wondered if I should sell it or learn it, since I'm a rogue. The only use for me would be to sell the potions.

Dropped from one of the Skyriss' in Arc a while ago.

There was none on the AH when I went to sell my stuff and I didn't feel like looking it up so I slapped it up there for 100g buy out and 55g bid. Sold sometime while I was asleep for 100g.

Wasn't expecting a green to go for so much.

Just my thoughts... rather than just using this to get burst DPS on my Mage, I also use these at the begining of boss fights with my Palatank.

The initial burst of Holy DPS jumps my aggro high enough that the rest of the group dosen't have to worry nearly as much about their threat... thus higher DPS and faster fight.

Some people think it's better to keep the potion cooldown for the possibility of needeing to health-pot. Frankly, if you end up needeing to health-pot in the first 2 min... then you need to get a better healer.

Though Alcemy doesnt have Blue Recipes for pots this one is probably really tough and great for AOE casters. Went for no less then 600g the 3 times ive seen it since BC. Pots are going to 60g a stack so you make your money back pretty quick on this Recipe. Dropped from Shadow Labs but i lost roll :(.

I just got this off the third trash mob in shattered halls, and they let me need on it since I was the only alchemist there. Then I check my AH, 350g! And it really is a fntastic potion, it's like being able to pop a trinket again. Very nice for burst damage.

The recipe dropped for me in Skettis, after escorting our dear confused prisoner! Sent promptly to my Alchemist character. But, I may see if it is offered on my server Khadgar before learning it. I am trying to decide between specializing in potions, elixirs or transmutes.
