I got it on my 2nd Mechanar run. It's confirmed to be dropped by them. Farming for this recipe will be a pain as it requires instancing just like the https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=13494 recipe in LBRS.

terrible drop rate it seems. Ive never seen it drop in my 6+ runs. Guess i need Shatar exalted for flasks anyway :/

I think the drop rate is skewed by the lack of alchemists in many parties that would be gathering data for this website. I've seen it once, but I thought there was another alchemist in the party, and it was gone when we recovered from wiping *embarrassed*.

Does anyone know if it drops in Heroic Mechanar too? I'm exalted with Sha'tar, so the incentive of going back to normal-mode is pretty slim.

As of patch 2.1, these potions will be made 5 at a time, and require 5 Imbued Vials, 3 Mana Thistle and 1 Primal Fire.

I must have done about 20 Mechanar runs, both on normal and heroic modes but i have never seen this drop for anybody.

Regarding PvE content, the bosses Al'ar and Kael'thas do quite a bit of fire damage.

Also there are cauldrons that you can make that will give 25 pots, however those pots are like Mage water and you have to discover the recipe first.

Yes. It can drop from Heroic mech. Thats how I got mine.

Since only alchemist who doesnt have it learned already can see the recipe drop, the % showed here is not really accurate.

You have to use WoW's Armory which give:

Sunseeker Astromage Extremely Low (1% - 2%)

The second boss from heroic Mechanar (Nethermancer Sepethrea) dropped this recipe.
It was about time, took me like 50 runs to get it :-/

I discovered the Cauldron of Major Fire Protection after creating two stacks of those fire protection potions, the chance to discover it is really high.

Resistance potions dont receive additional procs from potion mastery anymore, at least thats what I've observed during the last few months. Either that, or the chance to proc additional potions is really low ;)

The reason for this is rather simple. The Resistance potion recipes create 5 potions upon creation. All other alchemy recipes create only one. This appears to break the mastery proc on resistance potions.

Yes it DOES drop in heroic Mechanar. It actually dropped for me from Nethermancer Sepethrea along with the Jade-Skull Breastplate.

BLizzard: Increase the droprate on this damn recipe! I've run mechanar enough to get exalted twice over, and only seen it drop once. Of course I was outrolled by another alchemist. /cry

Got it from the same area here. The spawning trash mobs after the second boss dropped this.

The Recipe drops randomly off of one of 10 Sunseeker Astromages located in the Normal Mech. It does NOT drop in Heroic Mech. Sunseekers Astomages are the ones that have the swirling flame aura around them which is dispellable via Mages Spell Steal. As the Recipe is BOP it will only show up for Alchemists.

As of this post Allakhazam recorded 42 drops of the recipe from 18,115 kills = 0.23% drop. So by killing all 10 of the Sunseeker Astromages in Normal Mech you have a 2.3% chance of seeing this recipe drop or one drop every 43 instance clearings. Good Luck.

It's been changed in 2.1.0 so that you only require one primal and more mana thistles, but you create 5 potions in one go. There are also now cauldron recipes in the game that supply the entire raid with a prot pot. See patch details on the wow site.

Does anybody know of thsi only drops in normal mode, not in heroic mode? I visited Mechanar heroic quite a lot but - no recipe!

I dont know this for sure, but I put a lot into getting every recipe in the game and this one has eluded me for quite some time. I have seen it drop 3 times and all on regular Mech. I have cleared heroic countless times and have never seen it, so my guess is that it does NOT drop in the heroic version of Mech.

Dropped in Normal Mode from one of the Sunseeker Astromages. It dropped off the last mage that we had to kill before the last boss (lucky break and i won the roll). This was my 6 or 7th Normal Mech run. Good luck folks.

Edit: Discovered the cauldron after making 2 of these. The cauldron discovery ratio seems to be very fast.

I ran heroic mech exclusively to get sha'tar ex once I had gotten my heroic key. Never seen the recipe drop. Seems others have had similar experience. So i guess it only drops in normal mode.

Please don't give wrong information, it does idd drop in heroic mode as well thats how I was outrolled by a shadow priest, in HEROIC mode.

This recipe can drop in both normal and heroic mode of Mechanar.

In normal mode, the recipe can drop from Sunseeker Astromage, the trash mobs which appear mainly on the 2nd floor (3%-14% chance each)
and it can drop from Nethermancer Sepethrea (second "real" boss), 3%-14% chance.

In heroic mode, the Sunseeker Astromage **CAN'T** drop it, but the second boss has a higher chance of dropping it (25%-50%)

So, from my observation there are 10 mobs named Sunseeker Astromage in Mechanar. On NORMAL mode, if we assume the lowest drop rate, we have 10*3% which is 30%, not including the boss, which has 3%-14% of dropping it as well.
On HEROIC mode, the trash mobs can't drop it, so assuming lowest drop rate you have a 25% chance of getting the recipe from a heroic run.

In conclusion, if you want to farm for the recipe, do normal mech runs, they are easier and you get a higher chance to see the recipe drop.

I solo farmed this on my 10/0/51 frost mage w/ alchemy. I've been on many, many mech runs (hit exalted with Sha'tar over 6 months ago) and never had it drop so I decided to try and solo farm it. This was done in normal mode since, according to this thread, the astromages only drop it in normal difficulty.

There is a pair of astromages located near the legion cache. These are (I think) the only astromages that could feasibly be farmed solo.

Getting to the mobs was fairly simple. Zone in and move towards the left hallway, chug an invis pot as you approach the first mobs and run through them, continue down the hall and up the ramp, taking the first left turn. This leads to a small area where no mobs path (in front of you should be the top of the staircase that leads down to the legion cache). It should be noted that for some reason, a bug I imagine, consuming a lesser invis pot places a 10 minute cooldown on your mana gems which sucks since you cannot take advantage of the Serpent Coil Braid proc.

Next, pop mage invis talent and run down the stairs to the legion cache. I didn't stand directly behind it, but close enough where both astromages are in line of sight. This is when I buff up and prepare for the pull (elixir/flask, dampen magic, fire ward, ice barrier - no mana shield though as it eats too much of your mana). Take note of the large power cube to your left. You can use this cube to break line of sight on the mages. Breaking los is useful for pulling them back in to the corner to provide a little more space to move around and also for interrupting their casting of Solarburn if need be.

There is a robot that paths through the mages every 30 seconds or so. I waited for him to get far enough away from them where I thought he would not aggro on the pull (duh).

I pulled by sheeping the closest astromage, then summoned my water elemental and targeted the far astromage as she approaches. Nuke the piss out of the astromage, try to kite as best you can given the limited space in this corner as their melee hits for 700-1000. Counterspell or iceblock the Solarburn. Spellsteal the aoe fire buff and use it against them. I found instant casts to be useful as I could keep out of melee range longer and avoid the extra damage. Be careful when using frost nova though, if you snare her near your water elemental she will kill it. The Solarburn spell they cast will knock you up in to the air if you let them get it off. That knockback can launch you up on to a ledge in the corner which will cause the astromage to evade on you and heal up to full. If this happens you can reset the instance (logout technique - described below) or wait for them to fully bug out and reset on their own. Either way, you're best off to just stay up on the ledge.

Once the first mage is dead, quickly return to your starting spot and resheep the second mage (sheeping the mage will not aggro the robot so don't worry about where the robot is when you cast it). Bandage yourself up, drink a pot if necessary, burn evocation, use coldsnap to reset your water elemental, and rebuff. I saved my trinkets for the second mage as I was usually below full health and wanted the extra dps boost. I recast sheep between most of those steps just to lower my chances of the mage popping prematurely and bringing her robot friend over to kick my ass. Once ready, commence nuking of mage #2.

If your recipe didn't drop, simply reset the instance the easy way by inviting someone to a group, promote them to leader, drop group (this will spawn the "you will be teleported" error) and logout. When you log back in you be at the start of a fresh instance. Wait out the remainder of your invis potion cooldown (10 minutes) and give it another go. Took me roughly 10 attempts to get it to drop (20 astromages killed).

You will surely encounter some bad luck in your attempts. Due mostly to premature sheep popping, robot aggro, or evade bugging from Solarburn knockback. All of which are quite frustrating given the 10 minute cooldown between attempts from the invis pot timer.

Done many runs on normal mech trying to get this potion to no avail.

Then was doing the daily heroic when, quite unexpectedly, the Nethermancer firelady dropped this for me.

So for all you people wondering if it drops in heroic, it does.

I was doing a test run with another guild that I was trying to get in, seeing if it would work out if I joined them... Ran a normal Mech. After getting the two key peices, we opened the chest and it was inside.

Me being the only Alch. there, I was very happy. Couldn't shut up about it. Its not a bad recipe to add, and I made two stacks and then could make the cauldron that goes with it. Its good for raids and the guild I am in loves me for it.

I dont think the level of heroic or normal counts because I had a fellow Alch. friend run it on heroic 14 times so far, and no drop.
