Dropped off probably my 50th kill of these mobs.
35 or so actually farming it and 15-20 killed while questing.

I'd say it has around the same drop rate as any of the other BoP smithing recipes.

I just picked up this recipe, though I'm not yet at 375 BSing to learn it.

I have a question about it, for those who've been able to see it used in action. Does the rune absorb all 4000 damage up front, before you take any damage yourself? (Judging from reading the spell it would seem this way, but I'm not sure) Or will it absorb damage in increments... something along those lines?

It occurs to me that the drop rate as reported is almost certainly not the true droprate: This item should only appear for Blacksmiths, but lots of non-blacksmiths also kill these mobs. Also, does it still drop once you have already have in posession or have learned the recipe?

Would be somehow interesting to find out how this was supposed to work.
4k dmg is quite mutch, and you usually don't have the time during a tough fight to attach this one to your shield haven't you?
And from a Warrior's perspective I would never want to absorb 4k dmg especially not at the beginning of a fight.. Absorbing through armor is ok, you still generate rage.. but absorbing 4k for 0 rage really puts too mutch of an aggro-loss to be really helpful.

Haven't tried it yet though.

well first of all 4K for 0 rage is a bad thing. also 4K means only 1 to 3 hits against magtheridon, void reaver, gruul etc. i think MT shouldn't use this item due aggro holding problems. couse you know first seconds are most critical phase while building aggro under heavy fire.

but OT's may use it. if MT dies and boss turned to OT theres always a healing problem for 2-5 secs and that rune may help you to survive at those seconds. just a theory didnt try it yet .

There might be an In-Game bug on this item, because I have these plans, and they're called "Plans: Greater Rune of Shielding", not Ward.
It is the same item, it absorbs 4000 damage, and is made from 1 eternium bar, but it's called a Rune of shielding instead.
Hope this might clear up any future problems for people thinking they've looted the wrong item, or can't find theirs on Wowhead.

MT warriors this would suck. but..MT paladins. I think this would be very nice. Most of a paladins agro is the shield block reflect and consecration, at least at first. and I do believe that block / parry / dodge are in play before the absorb on this. so you would lose no agro. *shrugs* Would be worth trying anyway.

I dont normally use this in boss fights. But it comes in really handy when you are tanking the shammy in the fathom lord encounter. That shammy can do some really really nasty burst damage. Most of the time you will have a hunter MD you to start the fight and your initial aggro for 20 sec will be based on his damage out put. This warding will be gone inthe first 3 sec of the fight and gives your healers a little bit of a break to start out. It is no different than dodging the first blow of a fight up to 4k damage. You can stack this with a pws and the chest rune or warding as well. That allows for over 5k damage to be absorbed on a fight durring the inital 5 seconds of the pull thus allowing your healers to not premtively pull healing aggro.

In addition, these are hella cheap to make. btw, these can not be put on durring battle if i remember correctly.

I'm going to farm this on my prot paladin...you can front load your threat without rage concerns and for a fight like void reaver where an early orb can bomb your healers it can be a help.

As Snofire Pointed out, this is not necessarily meant to be for tanks. Yes is would serve a prot pally well who does not need to build up rage. However, it would be extremely useful for a paladin healer. Assuming said healer was using a shield, as most do, this would greatly mitigate the damage caused by a random charge or aggro related phenomenon. Currently, there are no uber shield enchants that would make this futile; I'd gladly give up my +11 int on my shield for 4000 pts of damage absorption. Sure, it requires an eternium bar for each rune, but hell.... for miners, this is cake.

So, I was gonna grind for this thing. Had my shit set up for like a hour grinding or so, then on second mob it dropped. I belive that if you got it on your 50th kill or something like that your just unlucky. Think the drop rate is way higher than that.

Decided to go farm Tomes today, and it drops on the first Bloodwarder kill.

I didn't even know it dropped here. Lucky that I'm a Blacksmithing Rogue(love the maces!), and now this puppy should make me some gold.

I have So much luck when it comes to blacksmithing plans. When i was farming for felsteel gloves, they dropped off the 4th Mob. And just as i sit down and get ready for farm these plans, they drop off of the FIRST F***ING GUY I KILLED!

Got mine on my 5th kill while waiting for invites to Tempest Keep. I advise any BSers out there waiting on TK dungeons/raids to farm for this if they're waiting. =P

I got this off of the 6th mob I killed. The drop % that is shown is much lower than the actual drop rate. It only appears for you if you are a blacksmith AND don't already have it, either learned or in your inventory, since it is BoP. That causes the drop percentage to be tweaked.

I got this on my 3rd kill.
And can make them on Feathermoon.
Be prepared to pay alot of gold for one Rune though.
Going price are 70G each at this time.

Grinding about 4 hours yesterday and still no luck. >:(

Have all the BoP Khorium and Ragesteel Plans, each one took around 10-30min to get, but this one. Damn i hate it, the only good thing for grinding after this plan is the drops with Sunfury Signets and Arcane Tomes, who you can turn in for Rep with The Scryers. (Two flies in one smack)

I'd consider grinding Sunfury's for this.... I've got 2 of these in 2 days, they have a .15% drop rate and vendor for 7g... not bad....

The drop rate is better than .1% It took me about 40-50 kills to get one so I'd say it's more like 2% drop rate.

On the forth kill at 19.71, plans are BoP.

I got these plans to drop after killing somewhere between 30 and 50 bloodwarders. They are usually in clumps of 3 or more around Manaforge B'naar, so farming them is pretty easy.

Look for them on the paths leading to the manaforge, guarding the doors into the manaforge, and in the center of several of the camps around the outside of the manaforge.

The Plans dropped for me on the third Sunfury Blood______ kill. If you want to farm it, I would recommend Manaforge B'naar.

I was doing the Annihilator Servo wanted poster quest at Manaforge B'naar with two guildies when I got these plans. We were clearing the area when these popped up after our second blood elf kill. I was the only blacksmith (367) so I got 'em. Being a tankadin, this should help with those nasty boss fights.

Keep in mind these plans are BOP and you must be a blacksmith to even see them when they drop.

The 0.2% drop rate is alittle misleading, expect it to be higher.... unless 100% of everybody who have ever killed Sunfury Bloodwarders were all blacksmiths.

And you need to not only be a blacksmith to see them, you need to be a blacksmith that doesn't already have the plans.
