When you use the item its a channel type spell, a green beam will come from your hands to the little gas cloud and it takes about 5 seconds.

Zangarmarsh has green gas clouds that give motes of life, Shadowmoon Valley has yellow gas clouds that provide motes of shadow, and i believe the steamvaults, slave pens, and underbog also have green clouds that give both motes of water and life. Anyone know if there are any other places to find "outland farts"? This contraption is really usefull for lazy farming!

I saw a purple gas cloud in netherstorm by tempest keep, not sure what it gives, i never ended up making this thing.

If you've already done this quest and dropped engineering, then re-acquire engineering later and come back to this guy to get the quest so you can make an extractor again...you will be out of luck. It looks like this quest is not available the 2nd time around. I don't think there is another way to get it, unless someone can offer an idea here? I'll probably start with submitting a ticket to blizz and pray for a decent response...

The extractor itself is not BoP or BoE so you can get another engineer to make it if you have dropped engineering and reaquired it.

Horde get this quest from Mack Diver outside Zabra'Jin.
Just to the northeast of the entrance, under the docks.

Ok, this is used to farm motes from clouds found in different zones. They are as following:
-Swamp Gas (Zangarmarsh): motes of water
-Windy Cloud (Nagrand): motes of air
-Felmist (Shadowmoon Valley): motes of shadow
-Nether Vortex (Netherstorm): motes of mana
Each cloud contains 3-5 motes of that type. The 350 epic engineering goggles can be used to track these gas clouds on the mini-map. You will need the extractor to get the motes.

Note: the extractor has a short range and you cannot be moving while using it. this is really only affected by the windy clouds in nagrand as they can often appear on or near the floating islands. if this happens, they are often out of reach and as of yet I have not found a way to reach them.

I have been farming windy clouds and have gathered 55 primal air in just 2 farming sessions. It's VERY good money and makes engineering worthwhile. Happy farming!

Those who say engineering is a money sink clearly haven't gotten to this nifty little item. It's basically another gathering profession, a very profitable one.

Combine this with your epic headpiece and you'll be rolling in primals and the gold they bring. Don't miss out on this one kids.

WARNING: Make sure you've got bagspace while farming motes, once you hit the mote cloud it will disappear and if your inventory is full you'll lose the motes AND the cloud. Found that one out the hard way.
