When learning this, know that the Stormy Star of Elune is placed in the Trade Goods tab in the Jewelcrafting window, instead of the Gems tab. Possibly a bug, and you will go crazy looking for it :)

This pattern is not in demand at all. No one purchases them and non of my guildies want it crafted. Any caster will want spell damage or crit.

Where this pattern dropped is trival, as it is a world drop rare. This means that any mob in a certain level range has a chance to drop it. What should be the concern of these posts is the actual "value" of the pattern. On muradin these gems sell for 10 gold below the price of the raw star of elune, and it is not hard to see why. The uncommon gem of the stormy family is Stormy Azure Moonstone, which has a +spell penetration of 8, and sells for about 1.5 gold on AH. Whereas most gems see a 33% increase in stats from their uncommon counterparts, this gem only sees 25%. Spell pen is a niche as well. Even for pvp combat there is no way to determine how much resistance, if any, your opponent will carry. The general consensus is none augmented by whatever you get from talents and or passive bonuses. For a boss with high shadow resists, a good lock would just go fire spec or a priest would just go holy or disc and offheal.
IMO a worthless pattern, only useful to the collecter who wants all rare JC patterns.

Got this off of one of the water elementals in Nagrand, while farming motes of water.

I asked it's value, since none were in the AH and right away someone offered me ~330g.

I just can't get rid of this item, it dropped for me a week ago and people won't even buy it from the AH for 100G. Must be because the gem you get from it (+10 spell penetration) isn't that good either.. Ah well, too bad.
