This rune is applied to an item not the actual character, therefore, it does persist through death.

So does anyone know for sure how this works?

I'm assuming it refreshs the damage absorbtion buff every 2mins and that its a hidden buff (the absorbtion buff itself not the one on the chest item) so you can't see when its going to change over?

Overall I can see it being highly useful for Heroic instances while learning them. Slap them on your healers and tanks for that little extra leyway.

In ideal circumstances, this rune will at most absord 12,000 damage spread out over the hour. Is it perfect? No. But in my experience khorium isn't that difficult to mine and every edge can help when learning an encounter.

I would suggest this is more useful for a tank than for a healer. To get the most out of this rune, the character will need to be getting hit very frequently, something that hopefully won't be the case with a healer. Therefore, for paladin/shaman healers, a better choice would be the Lesser or Greater Rune of Shielding to be used just before boss fights.

I put this on my armor yesterday and it's still proccing. It's been WAY over an hour and the icon for the actual armor buff is long gone but the effect still shows up every 2 minutes. Perhaps they broke it for 2.1?

This is currently broken in 2.1

The effect will stay on you until you enter an arena. It remains on through death, zoning into a new world, zoning into a new instance, zoning into a battleground, changing chest pieces, and logging off for more than 15 minutes.

For me personally, one charge stayed on for 3 days till i went to an arena. If you only casually arena, putting one on after your 10 games for the week will get you the most advantage.

Quick note - Im a druid 2 feral kits, dps and tanking

As of 13 June, its no longer bugged or at least not for me

I applyed it earlier before my Botanica run took 2 hours (ish), and was bugged for the duration of my run (on my tanking chest)

I then went back to grinding (in my kitty kit) for about 30 mins

However ive just got a Shattered Halls run and re equiped my tanking set and its no longer procing,

Ill try it with another rune later and re post

I spellstole the effect, and it's proccing cosistantly on me, even when i never used the item myself. I had to look it up here as to why it happened.

first noticed it when i was doing WSG last night, and i thought it was a JC neck item that gave the buff. With the other reports, and it being magic, it seems likely this is what is happening. :)

These have been disabled for quite some time, as have the Lesser Wardings.
Patch 2.2 changes them as follows
"Greater Rune of Warding: Due to persistent bugs with its design, this item has been redesigned for patch 2.2. It now enchants a piece of chest armor so it has a chance per hit of giving you physical damage absorption."
If this means replacing "standard enchants" (+6 stats, 150 HP etc) then they may become obsolete (dependant on the absorption)

I use this or lesser rune quite often with good results, you see the points absorbed quite often. However whilst farming motes of fire with my fire resist gear on (251 resistance) I don.t notice any absorbtion from either rune, can anyone confirm wether this does not work after a certain amount of fire resistance. NB it definately does absorb fire damage with low resistance (28)

This stacks with EVERYTHING except for a lesser rune of warding. A nice little extra mitigation for tanks, but not something that will make or break your guild progression.

I have a, maybe n00bish, question...

I have a lvl 10 twink and i want him to have this thingy on him. If i put this on my simple black dress (with 15 res) by my lvl 70 hunter it says: "too low level". I'm now camping for the Formal Dangui, which has an itemlevel of 60 which should be enough...

But will it stay on it if i trade it back to my lvl 10 char? Or can i let it be enchanted in the non-trade window.

In case you didn't know these are currently bugged, I've had one on my hunter now for about 4 days, comes on every 2 minutes, kinda nice. Wish a flask had bugged that way :D

You know it's not bad, if you have the money for it. It buffs you every 2 minutes for an hour with a 400 damage absorb, great if you are grinding mobs. Activates every two minutes if you are fighting or not fighting.

So you do the math. 400 damage x 30 times an hour. 12000 damage for the hour, assuming you are fighting the entire time. Slows things down a bit, nice when you start the fight, knowing the first few hits don't count.

However,

It costs a Khorium bar, which as of this writing runs about 8-10g. Will that 12000 damage cost you that much in repair costs? Doubt it. Will that 400 damage save your life every once in a while? Err, maybe.

A nice buff for a tank in a group, other than that, better off with the greater shield rune. 4000 damage absorb, no time limit, and only costs 1 eternium bar.

It's also good for PvP. Remember, it's applied to your equipment, so it doesn't go away when you die. 400 damage can make all the difference in PvP. Also, you can run it in addition to the shield runes for a large amount of damage absorption.

Also, it looks like you get 20 of 'em for 1 bar. (Looking at the image icon, but I guess that's just a misleading image icon up there.)

As already noted above, working out the dmg prevented/hour imo makes this item invaluable for an MT/OT during a raid.

It may also be of use to other people in the group that get hit... however, I would prefer to give the other 8 people in our 10 man Karaz group lesser runes. Still gives a nice enough buff, and won't cost you >100g for one runs worth.

This and the other greater rune are awesome for pulls. Slap both runes on and you absorb 4400 damage right off the bat. On bosses like moroes, you can reapply them when he cloaks for additional damage absorption. I save them for a last push on a new boss though because of the cost.

if you got the spare khorium to blow this item is great to use to get up to 360 BS. You more than likely will have more khorium than you know what to really do with because the armor plans that use it come later in the skill and require quite a bit of mats to make. plus selling khorium on the AH isnt to profitable. IMO use this to 360, the fel steel gloves till 370, then the leggings or what ever the other peice is (cant remember offhand). unfortunately the eternium required for getting a gain after 360 is insane, i never ran auch crypts so i never got the plans for the gloves. the pants require 32 eternium per gain, and since there is no such thing as an "eternium node" it would be HIGHLY adviseable to run crypts till you get the plans even if you really dont have any other drops in there. Im a 70 shaman and crypt runs as far as i can tell arent the most common thing in the world.

well this thing would realy be good for a prot warrior or paladin when there leveling, after all 400hp every 2min well for a prot thats for every fight then and the mobs can only hit you for like 40-60dmg every hit

I tried to combine the Greater rune of Warding with the Greater rune of Shielding, but there seems to be a problem, and no real resolution.

I cast GRS first, then GRW. Everything seemed to be working. The GRW absorbs first, then the GRS kicks in .

Problem is that the GRS looks like it's tied inconsistently to the GRW. I've used Shielding many times by itself and it absorbs a lot of damage during routine game play. When used with Warding, it seems to reduce it's absorb rate by 90%, and not all the time.

Sometimes it would pick up maybe 1000 points of damage, and other times it would just blink out after a few hundred, only when combined with warding.

Without warding, everything works great, and warding by itself seems to work flawlessly.

Both Khorium and Eternium prices have dropped a lot on my server, Khorium under 4g and Eternium around 3.

I'll keep using both of them, as a miner, it's pretty convenient, but for now I'm going to warding to start, but kill it and put on shielding if there is trouble around the corner that I can see.

Confirmed. Greater rune of warding when applied to a chest piece is treated like a sharpening stone on a weapon, where the buff is visible on the chest itself.

BUT

That's the only place you can see it, so you have to check the chest piece every so often to see how much time is left. The timer that used to be up above is now gone.

My guess is that was part of the conflict, so the workaround was to leave it on the item only.

The buff itself works pretty well. 25% chance of absorbing 400 damage, 90 second cool down.

I have tested this with Greater shielding, and there appears to be no conflict now.

Can a 60+ put this on a twink via trade window ?

Would be fun to have as it stacks with enchants. For 20-29 bracket it would be like having a PvP Dmg Absorb Trinket go off now n again, i assume.

Still valuable for 60s, and where it would really shine is for a white or grey non-soulbound chest item, such as a tuxedo jacket, simple black dress, or lovely black dress - preferably with a higher item level (and armor), but no or low level limit.

get the enchant of your choice (under 35 or over 35), and slap one of these on there, send it to a twink.

When the rune fades, send it back & apply another, since white items aren't soulbound.

Lovely black dress or tuxedo jacket, +4stats or similar enchant, and rune of warding. Booyakah!

Simple Black Dress +6 stats or similar, rune of warding. booyakah upgrade!

the ward helps, its not a silver bullet and nothing in this game is, to say it sucks would mean you are completely missing the point, as lowering your damage take is simply advantageous wether it be a black temple or rage fire chasm

Lvl 67 fury warrior, I just started using this and adamantite sharpening stones in BG, all of my stats have done a complete 180.

I've jumped from bottom half to top quarter, and sometimes have 2x killing blows vs. deaths.

Before I used this rune, ALWAYS died more than I killed, now it's the the other way around.

Yeah they're expensive but I'm hooked, I love the big BG stats...

I love using this when dueling rogues, they dont know you have it on because its not on your buffs list, and every hit they do is around 400 dmg

Nice enhancement. just tested it for a few BG's didn't die as fast as without rune.

Use only in the smaller BG's and not in Slackvally.

In slackvally is it a waste of a Khorium bar because in our Bg its still a boss race.
