I can easily say that this is the best bow that you can get at levels 65-66. Way better than all of pre-TBC raiding weapons.

Hemet's Elekk Gun while not looking very spectacular carries potent DPS for hunters, at 59.2 DPS it replaced my Grand Marshal's Hand Cannon.

The series of events leading to acquiring the gun are identical to the Nesingwary expedition in Stranglethorn Vale, You kill several tiers of 3 styles of enemies, then an elite for each style, and finally 'Tusker'. The entire quest chain is contained within Nagrand and albeit tedious, does reward well in both items and XP.

Also, while this quest chain is greatly rewarding for some classes, classes like warrior do not benefit as much as ,for example, we hunters do.

There is also another elite quest chain in Nagrand which involves killing 6 Elite bosses one after another and also greatly rewarding both in means of xp and gold.

Attack power and +crit makes this a good ranged weapon for any melee DPSer to equip. The chain is simple enough to do, just don't try to do it all at once. Deffinately worth picking up.

Unfortunately it's too fast for BM specced hunters with Serpent's Swiftness (can't get your steady shot rotation in).

not a bad gun to pick up if your a dps class because of the crit rating on the gun along with the attack power.

This is a must for any hunter who is not being twinked or has better. Grab a couple of buddies and do these quests. We had three (rogue (70) shaman (65) and me(I was about 64-65) and I believe it took only about an hour and ½ to do them. You could do it quicker but we were having a good time. I am a gun toon so I thought the skin of the rifle was pretty cool, I still have it as I am not a power player. (now 69) I will replace it soon as something better drops

Was thrilled when I got this, then just a couple levels later came across a https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25266 "of the Bandit". Sad that a random world Green would be better than this, even if it is just slightly. Yes, it's missing the extra crit, but as a BM hunter I'm going more for AP than crit.

Hunters interested in acquiring this gun: the chain is soloable (with care) by BM hunters up to at least Bach'lor and Banthar. I am going after Gutripper (and the Elekk itself) next, and will update my post when I find them to be soloable or not.

Kiting, stuns, and a couple mana pots are what I needed. Goodluck!

Update: Gutripper hits very lightly, and can be outhealed with Improved Mend Pet. A horde shadowpriest ran up at 50% and dps'ed with me the rest of the way, but I think it could have been soloed. Gutripper does, however, move faster then an epic ground mount, so is probably unkitable.
Further Update: Tusker was a joke, just kite w/ pet dps'ing with growl off... slow as dirt.

This is an awesome weapon. The speed is perfect for a 1:1 rotation (bm). However, i did the quests at 64 and they were easy until the elites and i could not solo them. I got a guildie, a 70 rogue to help me out, and we downed all 4 elites quite easily. I don't see any viable upgrades to this weapon, so i think i will hold onto it until 70, I already have Valanos' Longbow https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=31303 for when i ding 70.

Got the gun last night.. quest was annoying and long, but well worth it. Put the Khorium scope on it and it hits nice and hard.

The only problem with HEG is its speed. It's too fast to be used effectively with a steady-shot roation. :-(

I say go with the Gunblade so the Steady Shot rotation is not screwed up. On Darkspear they are going for 40g.

I just got this and don't know if I should switch it up instead up The Gunblade, i see the Steady Shot comment and that help a little but the speed speed still kinda makes up for it I think. Any one else have comments?

Entire quest line is pretty easy for a hunter. The killing 30 each of mobs was kind of tedious but tracking helps out. The elite clefthoof is soloable, easy to kite with cheetah. I grouped up for the talbuk and the bird, didn't seem to be any easy way to kite them, immune to slowing effects I think. They were too fast to just use cheetah on. The last mob, Tusker is also kiteable.

If you want to do Tusker really easily alliance side kite her into the nearby town and the guards will kill her almost immeadiately.

Yes! This gun is all it looks like! My hunter did this quest with another hunter who loves his bows and he even put his bow away for this gun. It looks awesome too! I can't wait for my warlock to get that wand too.

OMG Hemet Nesingwary is dwarf hunter, and for killing biggest elekk there is he gives you Hemet's (gasp) Elekk (gasp!) Gun (GASP!). Ofc he gives elephant gun, no reason for him to have Tyrande's Longbow handy.

i did the 30 kill quests alone as a 64 bm hunter (easy, just boring).

for the elite quests, i tried kiting...but failed miserably. every single one of the elites has an intercept/charge ability that screws you (since you have AotCheetah on). i don't have the +6 yard range from the survival tree, so maybe that played a factor.

anyways, i grouped up with a 67 shammy and a 70 paladin...the rest was cake. the gun is a nice upgrade from the green crossbow i got in hellfire peninsula. >:D

really boring working up through the 180 kills you have to do to get to the elites, easy enough alone though since the first 3 parts are yellows, the next ones you just have to avoid getting 3 or 4 on you at once. Grouped up for the elites since i didnt really wanna kite & failed miserably on tusker just having 2 people, 64 hunter (me) and a 65 druid. Only problem was my pet wasn't aggroing like she should and he immidiately went for the healer, ah well, get another one on & try, try again

This is a very powerful weapon for such a relatively simple quest; two or three people can power through the entire Hemet quest chain in a few hours, or hunt the 3 final wussy elites and Tusker in 15 minutes.

Powerful enough for me to switch over from bows and spend some time at the Dark Portal pewpewing the 70 elites for gun skill. I was doing almost the same amount of damage with level 40 ammo and this gun as I was with the crossbow from the group quest in Hellfire and Blackflight Arrows.

True, although hardly a constructive answer.

Kiting is aggroing a mob and then running away from them, having them chase you. You run away in front of it, having the mob trail you like a kite on a string. Keeping aggro is paramount, of course, or the mob will simply leave combat after a while and run back to its original spot, meaning your kiting wil have failed. This is where the famous jump-shooting comes in. And no, I cba to exlpain THAT, too. :p

I kited him and the elite Clefthoof to Telaar. Just use AoTC, R1 Arcane and reapply Serpent Sting. The Guards dealt with him quickly.

Easy for a 65 hunter, turn growl on pet off, do distracting shot+arcanse shot and serpent sting, and kite her along the road, she was dead before i reached telaar.

If you cant find a group clear all the elleck to make a kite path and kite him back to telaar where you can get the help of 4 lvl 70 elite guards. :P

my old gun was the level 60 pvp epic with a +7 scope on it. then i got hemet's elekk gun which has a few more dps points in the item description and... surprise, surprise... after equipping it and reading my ranged attack stat, without a scope the dps of the elekk gun is EXACTLY THE SAME (to the 1/100th of a dps point) as my old gun that has the +7 scope. not joking, absolutely serious. need to put a scope on the elekk gun for it to really be any better at all, aside from the slight increase in crit percentage.

also: the alliance has it so easy in nagrand, when it comes to solo kiting the final parts of the nesingwary quest chain. bach'lor, banthar and tusker are so close to the alliance camp (telaar), any newbie with attention deficit disorder could kite the elites to that camp. try kiting tusker through halaa and all the way across the zone to the horde camp (garadar)! i never want to hear anyone complain ever again about flippin' level 14 defias pillagers being so unfair to alliance players... things like that are completely trivial compared to the scandalous tusker-kiting imbalance.

Soloed Tusker on my 68 BM Hunter without kiting. Took 6 or 7 tries before I got that perfect balance of crits and timely dodges from my pet. This gun is pretty swank for BM. I just wish it was a bow sos I could reap the benefits of being a Troll. This will last me until I can equip the Valanos in my bank.

Completed this quest last night (lvl 68 MM Hunter) and I wanted to know if I should ditch https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=18835/high-warlords-recurve , High Warlord's Recurve for it. I love the speed with Recure (1.8), but I find it's lacking a little firepower (80 - 121 Damage). I am a Troll, so the extra Bow specialization is good, but I have not found a better bow than this one. Should I use Elekk Gun instead?
