there's good money to be made in buying the mats off the AH and then reselling the diamond. I can easily get 100-120g for an uncut earthstorm diamond on my server, and the mats only run about 50gish. If you have a miner, like I do, it's even easier. Send all your mats to get prospected to a guildie or alt (something you should od anyway, since blue gems sell better than ore stacks), and use the green gems and primal earth you got from mining for this mute. That leaves you with 2 primal waters to farm/buy.

If you're wondering why the price of these has gone up since patch 2.4, it's because of this:

Making Brilliant Glass in on a 1 day cooldown, but that's still 18 green gems per day per highlevel JC that are off the market.

Eventually though, this will push down the price of blue gems, and ideally, green gem prices will drift back down a little.

It seems that crafting Diamonds does not give a chance of making a discovery of another transmutation recipe. I have crafted Diamonds for about a year with my Alchemist and never procced a single discovery. I then tried Earth to Water and got 3 discoveries in a week.

Yes it is used to make one of the best healing gems that you can get, +26 healing.

I learned how to make primal manas with fires from making an Earthstorm Diamond. ive never seen anything like that before, or heard of that. Is that common?

If you're an alchemist, then you have a chance of learning a new recipe in a specific category. In this case, creating an Earthstorm Diamond is in the 'Transmutation' category.

So whenever you transmute something, you have a chance of learning how to transmute something of a similar level.

This only applies for recipes that can't be learned via a trainer or recipe though. Those you need to find yourself.

Has anyone with transmute mastery had this proc multiples? I have had primal mights, etc., proc with what can be considered on a "regular" basis, but have yet to receive more than one earthstorm.

I'm starting to re-think my decision to become a transmute master...

Wowlock117, im in the same situation. Primal might procs for me on a regular basis, alas i have made like 15-20 earthstorm diamonds with not a single proc!. I think blizzard has made a boo boo some where because they come under "Transmutes". If you be interesting to know if any one else out there has had any luck?

Ok yeah i just ate my words... after 20+ diamonds its proced 2 last night. Mebbe its the 2.32 patch? i dont know but after doing so many with no proc, i just dont think im that unlucky.

I'd highly recommend (unless my server's AH is significantly cheaper on TBC uncommon gems) getting mats and an alchemist in your guild (otherwise get one now, makes life so much easier with jobs needing professions you do not have) to do it. If you have a jewelcrafter whom is able to cut it into what you want, that is even better.

K. So my AH's price on an Earthstorm Diamond goes around 70g.

ESD = 70g

Now, what are the mats?
Golden Draenite x3 = ~50s/a piece... little variation
Shadow Draenite x3 = "
Deep Peridot x3 = "
Primal Earth x2 = 4g/a piece, sometimes lower
Primal Water x2 = 15g/a piece
____________________
Total = ~42g50s

70g - 42,5g = ~27,5g

Unless I've skipped something, with some time (AH'ing & finding the right people) you can easily save yourself a good deal of gold.

But what if you farm primal waters? The shimmerscale eels in the lake next to Shattrah in Terokkar have a nice drop rate. Remember, 70's who are getting better equipment are farming too. Expect PvP encounters, unless you are not on a PvP server. If I wasn't jumped by an evil warlock (I a holy paladin... There is absolutely nothing much I can do to dish out good damage on casters), 20 minutes and I've got primals already. Otherwise, the lakes in Nagrand or Zangarmarsh can easily be farmed.

Primals were farmed! Minus ~30g of fees.

Now, let's see...

42,5 - 30 = ~12,5

I've paid ~12,5 gold on materials in total. And I've saved myself about (70 - 12,5 = ~57,5g) 57,5g in total, instead of paying the AH price of 70g on an Earthstorm Diamond. Even with some tipping, you're probably saving more money to buy whatever more crap. I could do a whole lot crap about cutted meta gems being cheaper this way.

FYI - The 350+ alchemists in my guild (We're not über, but we have really good members) didn't even know they could make an ESD. Meaning, that my comment doesn't really consider cooldowns and how much they're valued. Thank you.

I have skilled on Earthstorm Diamonds 18 times, 350-368 and made three discoveries, earth-life, life-earth and water-shadow.. Is that many discoveries common or am I just lucky? :D
