This weapon is clearly designed as a paladin tanking weapon, yet, why does it only do 41.4 dps? At level 70, shouldn't paladins be able to wield a sword that does more 50 dps at least? Yeah, it has spell damage on it, which is nice, but seal of righteousness isn't supposed to do more damage than our white hits. I really wish that we could get a good one handed sword with the stats we want that doesn't also double as a mage's sword in a pinch.

This item adds roughly 21.5 to seal of righteousness's damage. Giving a (Talented) 43 additional threat per hit when using SoR. More if the person has the imp SoR talent.

IMO this sword is great! I'm an aff lock and +hit and 130 SPdam is lovely. The Caverns rep sword https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29185 is nice but i would rather have +9 SPdam and +6 hit rating extra from this one, than the extra 150hp the rep sword gives at a loss of SPdam/hit.

This is a great warlock staff the armor is rather less important for mage BUT if you are stacking damage it is a very good main hand to go with a good off-hand.
Get +40 spell damage on it and it may not be beat for a go long while.
I suggest this and a good off-hand for any raiding/instancing offensive caster you will notice the difference.

Won it last night from a guild-run Shadow Lab. Any guild that isn't confined to the general class roles would be happy to have more than a Warlock or a Mage roll on it. Oh yeah, I'm a Paladin. The armor is negligible as nothing more than an arguing point, but the 1.8 attack speed guarantees full usage out of Reckoning by a Protection Paladin and the spell-damage is wonderful as it increases SoR/Cons/everything.

Rolled against a mage friend of mine who I informed at the beginning of the instance that I was gunning for it. He and the rest of the instance group agreed as they could see its applications for a Paladin. To Paladins looking to get this weapon that's probably the best route; let your group know that you're going to need it if you think they'll be weirded out by the concept so you have ample time to explain your decision. And if it's a pug and they say no, you have plenty of time to leave the group without feeling bad about leaving them standing at Murmur without a healer.

Oh, and to all the naysaying Warlocks/Mages who are sickened by the idea of my Paladin running around with this, keep in mind that Paladins only have maces and swords to get spelldamage from, and although maces have come a long way in the expansion there is nearly a 2:1 ratio of caster daggers to hammers.

Anybody know why this sword, obviously meant for mages and warlocks, gives 60 armor? Looks like a waste of stats-points to me. Rather would have had 6 extra stamina... or heck, even int :)

Grabbed this tonight. Managed to nab the Adamantine Figurine off of Inciter as well, so I never have to go back to this hellhole of an instance again! (I love the Murmur fight but it just isn't worth facing Inciter again and again. Vorpil was just flying by the seat of my pants -tanking)

.... at least until I get a quest for heroic mode or something.

A point of interest (for anyone interested in aesthetics) is that if your character is a gnome, the sword is actually longer than the gnome's legs. So the sword drags around behind you while you're running, and (strangely) sticks straight down into the ground when you're standing still.

I believe it would be the same for dwarves, although I'm not certain on that.

Oddly enough, it seems this item is being nerfed in 2.1. It's losing its 60 armor, but gaining 1 max damage point.

I doubt that a 10% chance is a true. As for me it seems much lower, as i've done about 20 runs, it dropped once, and some f%*#ing newbie mage got it. Well, one thing is good - that i like this instance. And I still have hope that it drops to me before i get a staff from Curator.

For weapon ownage, 10/10. It will save me some Keepers of Time rep grinding and will suffice until our guild has Kara on farm.

In terms of badassery, 10/10 again. It's so long it goes into the floor. And it pokes out of my raptor's genital area.

How come only one person mentions just how freaking long this sword is? When my gnome mage wears it, it drags into the ground. It looks awesome when you have a sword almost as long as you're tall. Thats a plus 50 style points for this, way out beating the rep sword, and the stupid looking mana wraith.

As a holy or prot paladin it works well with a spelldamage set, since it means a lot less resists on higher level mobs. I offtank in Kara using this weapon, and tank 5-mans with it. Most people go "wtf" when they see a paladin with it, but with a large amount of spellpower and enough spellhit (which I need to get off my trinkets and mainhand, thanks for the itemisation blizz) means that mobs stick to me like glue.

It is one of the best spellhit mainhands that a prot or holy pally can get their mitts on, and even though it can benefit a mage or warlock, spellhit comes in greater quantities on staves, something that a paladin cannot use.

Righteous Defense, Judgement of Righteousness, Consecration, and Holy Shock are all spells, and I die on the inside when I see a partial or full resist due to level. With something like this, I hardly ever get resisted.

It also looks huge. As a Belf, it nearly scrapes the floor when I run about. I've seen plenty of gnomes with it, and they look hilarious!

So this weapon should be an equal roll for anyone that would use it. I admit, I was the only one on the run of Slabs that could use it when it dropped, and I had passed it up earlier when I was specced full ret.

I was so stoked when this dropped on my first SLabs run (sorry if you've been farming). I'm also a gnome lock and I hit (-) to unsheath it constantly cause it sticks like 2 ft over my head :)

One thing I found out today kind of bummed me out though. As I'm going to be keeping this for some time I forked out the coin to get a Greater Spell Damage enchant put on it (the +40 one). This enchant is supposed to make your weapon glow with a white flame but it did nothing to mine. A guildie has the exact same enchant and his glows white so I dont know whats up (thottbot if you dont believe me). I believe its cause the sword has a pretty cool purple glow on its own and they dont want to ruin that. Thats my guess anyhow, other people must have enchanted this, has anyone else experienced this???

BTW, now that I got this my next stop is Arc for
Lamp of Peaceful Radiance as a dope offhand is definately desired.

On my first kill of Murmur, I recieved both the Oblivion Robe and this. I am really impressed with the amount of spell damage, and how it supplies a good amount of Spell Hit and a large amount of spell damage, larger than some staffs. I have it paired up with https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28187, giving you a total of 32 stamina, 32 intellect, 26 hit rating, and a whooping 152 spell dmg.

Compare this to a staff, say, https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28341. This staff is probably the best pre-Karazhan/Heroic Sethekk staff you can get. I don't even have the best off-hand paired with I think the best pre-Kara/Heroic 1h sword you can get. Let's compare the stats.

Total, you gain 10 spell hit rating and 31 spell damage from the sword/OH, while missing out on 5 stamina, 6 intellect, and 26 spell crit rating. My recommendation? Go with the staff ONLY if you have maxed out hit rating. Hit>Crit for raids, and I am willing to take 31 more damage over a little bit of stamina and intellect as an affliction warlock.

I do relize for classes like Spriests, Druids, and shamans, you cannot use swords. I would get https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27868 if you do not want the staff, or farm botanica (from what I've heard, longest BC instance in the game, unless you have a group willing to skip all the bosses and go directly to warp-splinter).

Assuming you never touch heroic Sethekk for https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29355, or for the Thrallmar/HH rep swords, this is one of the best weapons you can farm, as a caster, before going into kara.

I was thinking, being Holy Pala, Ally and all that it means, wouldn't this sword be great for grinding (when occasionally you're not spamming Flash of Light in a 5 man)? It got nice stats, and the speed would be great with Seal of Vengeance (you might get lucky with the procs once in a while). I can see how the possible Mage/Lock would go bananas if a Healer needed on it for dpsing, but really, why should they have first dibbs on it?

Hi friends.......this sword is very cool but i note 1 problem.
Don't use enchant Fiery Weapon or Icy Chill.You will not see any different and you will spell without reason your gold.

I ran Slabs constantly for this sword until 2.4 came out, then, I ran MgT got keyed for heroic, ran heroic once, and off the first boss this Dropped:https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=34604

Now there is no spell hit, and instead there is the Worthless for me (AFF lock) Spell haste, but the pure DMG really out does the 14 hit rating i lose by not getting this sword. It also has better stats, but as a primarily PvE Lock those are almost negliable in that qauntity.

So casters do yourself a favor and get keyed for MgT heroic, get this instead. The first 2 bosses in MgT heroic are push overs, and you should have no problem getting this dagger in 1-2 runs. The drop rate on it is also rather high, so Good luck.

As a somewhat expierianced lock, I loved the +hit on this over the +crit on most of the other caster 120-130dm swords.

as an affliction lock who mostly pvp'd while having this, it sucked for stats, I eventually replaced with Jaded Dagger from heroic mgt, with s1 out and the easily farmable jaded dagger out, DO NOT BUY MAJOR SPELLPOWER on this, you will regret it!

I can see how the possible Mage/Lock would go bananas if a Healer needed on it for dpsing, but really, why should they have first dibbs on it?

They should have first dibs because it is their main spec and you are want it for casual use. You should never roll against someone's main spec out of common courtesy.

I use this sword currently on my paly tank as a main spec. I use Crystalline Kopesh When soloing/grinding because of the higher DPS and stamina. I only need the spell damage for threat generation. And I got it on a run when nobody else needed it. Also I stated before the run started that if it dropped I was rolling on it so if anyone objected they or I had the chance to leave the party before anyone got @#$%ed.

I would suggest going to do Durn the Hungerer if you want a nice soloing weapon.

I am not sure if any one else has noticed but an easy alternative to this amazing spell blade is the Archmage's Guile.

While not as flashy as the Greatsword of Horrid Dreams, this sword is obtainable once you hit Revered with the Shattered Sun Offensive for the low cost of 35g 54s 65c and has the same amount of spell damage as the aforementioned blade.

The only downside is the reduced stam and intel and a trade of Spell hit for Spell Crit. But that can be negligible if your concern is spell damage. You only loose 3 stam and 3 intel and trade 14 hit for 20 crit. A decent trade off considering how much easier this is to obtain.

When paired with an easily obtainable off hand like The Saga of Terokk you will be packing a considerable punch.

Both are the current equip of my Affliction Warlock, and quite frankly I could not be happier. This will hold me well until I can obtain something better like the Jaded Crystal Dagger from Magisters' Terrace or blades considerably better like the Bloodmaw Magus-Blade from Gruul's Lair or the Nathrezim Mindblade from Karazhan.

Dunno when they nerfed the armor but the name *Horrid Dreams* and graphic makes me think of...warlock. :D Also great for mages, but if the mage already has Starlight Dagger w/ +40 dmg enchant and would roll on this when another mage or lock in the grp needs it waay more, than that mage should just kill themselves cause they fail at life. :-)

As for a pally tank weapon, meh, don't think so. Hit rating is good but you get enough +spell dmg from gear to hold aggro. Get something with high sta and def.

It dropped off Murmur in Shadowlabs on the first run. I instantly equiped it for my warlock. Sold my Conjurer's Staff, & a dagger I had been holding on to. Equiped my off-hand item to make up for the Stam & Int loss.

As much as Paladin tanks are going to use magic and skills n' such to tank, they will still want a fairly hefty amount of DPS on the blade to help increase their aggro output. I don't see it as a good Paladin tanking sword really...

The armor is definitely confusing, but I'd still pass on this to mages and warlocks. (I'm a Paladin btw)

All that is, of course, if it is a drop and not a vendor item or quest reward, which isn't aparrent at the time of this post.

This sword is great for looks alone, stat wise though I'd go with continuum blade (for pvp anyways). Even as a "pallie tanking sword" continuum blade's 15 extra stam > 60 armor. ;p

This is nice. I have the Mana Wrath blade from Mechanar, which is comparable. Actually, it seems the stats on the mana wrath are better in my opinion, for a mage. If I'm going with a sword off-hand combo, I want to at least keep my intellect up in the range where I would be with a staff. But, hey, awesome sword still!

Here is a nice off-hand you can get with this from a quest chain. Better than praying the necromancer book drops from the boss in mechanar.

Lol guys, the 60 armor is there for Moonkins/druids in general. Sure the added armor is nice for other casters as well, but it's specifically for druids, and sure I guess a pally tank..... nah. Just like Sageclaw from Arathi Basin Exalted, it has armor for those Moonkins.

Just got it last night (was running Shadow Lab just for this and got it on second run :p). Easily the best non-epic mage/lock one hander imo. Get yourself a Tome of the Nethermancer, Lamp of Peaceful Radiance or Star-Heart Lamp and you're gtg (I have the Nethermancer). Wicked graphic too, although it looks too big for anyone except a night elf or tauren (who prob wouldn't be using it anyway). Goodbye stupid Spellfire Longsword, I'm not a Jedi anyway.

This is a great sword for tankadins to be sure. However, I think Continuum Blade might be a little better just because of the added stamina.

Its not raiding, its a 5man instance. Murmurs the last boss in shadow labyrint, the final wing in Achuindon. Hes a fight similar to ragnaros, with knockback, but also a Living bomb-ish abillity. I suggest a guild run with some program to talk to each other with, coz this boss would be terribly hard to pug.

Level 68 and went in with guildies, i was the only caster who could use it other then a paladin who didn't even ask if he could roll, simply passed right away.

As usually on Thott, people are getting into useless arguing over gear.

I am a pally tank. Not just theorising what it will do for me, I KNOW what that blade will do for me. There are some good points in previous posts, which I agree completely with and won't mention again. But the one thing that's missing is our main source of threat - Holy shield. the only way to boost this ability is +spelldmg. And believe it or not, this in my experience is our most threat generating ability.

As for axes/maces with +spelldmg - good luck finding a good one. Seems like it +spelldmg is priority for Daggers (casters, hello) and Swords. And surprise - pallies can't use daggers.

Oh and one last thought - if I tanked for your group to Murmur's loot, believe me you won't be screaming at me "getzor ur heal gearz an healz me noobzor...".

Just got it as a warlock and it's great.
I'm an affliction lock so I want all the +spelldamage and a reasonable amount of +hit.
Definetly worth a 40 spelldamage enchant.

ok as a mage I LOVE this blade, +30 int on it nice +dam , wish it had +crit , but i'm a pyromage and i live by my crits, My oldest WOW friend has it , he's a warlock , if i get the recipie , he'll prolly add spell dam.

no pallies i run with yet ( i'm horde) but i would be more than willing to roll against a pally for it just like druids priests and shammies , pallies are not ALL healers, they can but some shouldn't, if a players personal preferences say they can really use this blade then great , honestly i wouldn't even !@#$% about a Marksman hunter asking to roll off need for it ( i'd laugh at him later but meh )when we have pallies that are of similar level and gear as i am , i'll be happy to compete for swords with them.

as a general rule people need tonget over what a blade or piece fo gear were made for , and realise that some players have worked their toons out to use the game mechanics differently than others .....

can't we all just get along?

Alliance Paladins, as soon as you can get your hands on a nice SLOW weapon with decent spell damage, never let it go.

I know it goes against everything you've been taught about tanking, but if you use Seal of Vengeance to tank, you want a slow weapon. Ideally 3.0 speed, but you're not going to find that. With this sword SoV will fail to proc on 4 out of 10 swings. That can give you some really bad streaks, and lose you aggro.

With a nice slow 2.7 speed mace, you're only going to miss those procs on about one swing in eleven. Tanking is about consistency. Only use this until you can get something SLOW.

(For those of you who like to switch to Seal of Wisdom/Light while tanking, keep a fast weapon like this one handy, and make a macro to switch it with your seal. Light and Wisdom are the only reason to use a fast weapon, in my opinion.)

As far as Reckoning is concerned, yes, you'll get four less-effective swings per Reckoning with a 2.0 speed weapon, but since Reckoning can proc at any point in your swing timer, you'll find that theorycraft shows it gives the same benefit for any weapon OVER 2.0 speed, and actually a slight DPS LOSS for faster weapons, since you waste precious seconds of the buff.

a) Is Prot spec (can be verified via Armory now)
b) Tanked the instance

then roll Need.

I'm a full prot pally who just tanked Sl for the 8th time. It droped, A mage and I both rolled for it. He was fine with me rolloing because he was able to nuke the whole damn instance with pulling agro. He asked me how I did it and I told him.........spell damage agro. Thats how I hold agro while tanking it's all spell damage. This sword helps US hold agro so YOU can nuke.

I am a level 70 mage and while i do see how this could be an effective paladin tanking weapon and would not object to a paladin rolling need on it, i would object to people saying that i shouldn't because of the armor or some other reason. I feel that people should roll need for what will help them play their class better and it shouldn't be any harder than that.

These comments are supposed to be helpful bits of information in regards to the item in question. Please stop using it as an excuse to flame. Try and show a little maturity and restraint. This sword is a great item for any casters that can use it. That includes mages, warlocks, shamans, AND paladins. The only people who have no use for it are non-magic users and those who cannot use swords. So please stop with the nonsense about it being only for one class. If you can use it and its an upgrade, and you win a roll in your group, then its yours plain and simple. Now, lets move onto more constructive comments. /End Rant

Well I got this sword the second run of SL. Perfect sword for Locks/Mages. So get this and run Sethekk Halls for the Off Hand that you get from that quest. Thats a good way to start off 70. And keep running SL for some of the Oblivion set. If I'm not mistakin two parts of that set drop in SL.
So there's a way to start off level 70 imo. It's what I did as a Mage but got the Incanters set instead. Good luck w/70

Just as a slight correction from an above post not meant to cause an argument!, while continuum blade is a good replacement for locks without the hassle of running the inst to death as its bought from rep, +stam is god to aff lock no argument and poss to a demo (not going to comment as not specced as one )but saying spellhit is lowly?. running a 0/21/40 - +spellhit is GOD cannot have too much! with a good healer in party the difference in health is minimal compared to the damage i can deal out. But tbh i have no probs with what class should/shouldn't get rights to /roll on this so just get yourself a good party and go for it, even better go with guild and then you can assign whatever drops to whoever it would benefit most for the next run or next inst or next raid you are aiming for, in guild its all for the collective good. What benefits your char benefits the guild. Theres no point even starting a inst run if you can't be sure that you aren't going to get screwed at the point you have put your time and g (mana pots etc )into to get to especially when its a low rate drop from a final boss (not so bad if it was from and early encounter).

I (Prot Pally) was running this instance today for rep. When low and behold this drops off Murmur. Nobody wanted so I snapped it up. Really good sword for pally tank, although yes there is better. I'm torn between putting +40 spldmg on this or if I should wait until I get continuum blade and put it on that. I have the mats collecting dust just waiting for something to put them on.

Great prot pally weapon.

Won this the other night on my freshly dinged 70 prot pally. None of the group minded since I had tanked the entire instance without any wipes and only one death on the ogre boss (I swear that boss was made to piss pally tanks off, 0 mana for most of the fight = may as well put on healing gear and help heal, lol) but the mage who we'd picked up to finish the last hallway after our shadow priest disconnected started whining about it...

I couldn't really believe it, he joins the instance, kills !@#$ with us for 15 minutes compared to the two hours the rest of us had been there and he had the balls to whine about the tank winning it.

Why are prot pallies saying they are the only pallies entitled to this sword? This is a nice weapon for holy specced also. It also has a good healing bonus, stam, and int which are the prime stats for holy. The spell damage also beefs up holy shock. The spell hit rating helps holy shock hit. This sword is ideal for many classes, not just pally tanks.

This sword is awesome for Warlocks too. It has the most important stats for a Warlock. Stam and Int are crucial for locks, along with the spell damage. The name of the sword sounds like something a Warlock should own.
