The Whispering Blade of Slaying is a powerful dagger comparable only to one dagger found before the expansion, Kingsfall.

This dagger is dropped by Murmer, the last boss of the Shadow Labyrinth wing of Auchindoun. Murmer will be kind enough to reward you with this dagger only about 12% of the time.

This is a fairly amazing dagger, it's comparable to the KingsFall and for a Mutilate build I can see it (at least in pvp) being a bit better.
I want to see myself dual wielding these guys.

This has dropped on both Shadow Lab runs I've been on. Both went to me, but since I'm a sword rogue I haven't had a chance to use them yet.

I'm not sure if my luck is indicative of the real drop rate, but it seems pretty reliable.

i got this just today, it pwns as an offhand and my damage is insane. i just wish greater eternal essences werent 10g (they used to be 4g before BC!) so i could get +15 agi on this baby.

This dropped for me on about the third run.

I noticed right away a fairly substantial increase in damage over the slightly faster and less-damage twin-bladed ripper.

This dagger is awesome, perfect for a Mutilate/Envenom Rogue's MH!

In my opinion one of the best combo for mutilate daggers outside karazhan and other high level content is this one in main hand with a Claw of the Netherwing Flight in offhand(https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=31492) because you'll get a good average damage and stat bonus with a total of:

+56 Attack power
+30 Dagger skill
+15 Hit rating
+15 Agility
+21 Stamina

really nice dagger especially for ambush or if u dual-wield those you can be a rly good mutilate rogue. it can be used up tp Malchazeen (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28768).

This is the best blue dagger in the game at the moment, it blows away all pre-TBC weapons except Kingfall ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=22802) a, uncommon Naxxramas drop of Kel'Thuzad. Whispering Blade of Slaying is a 10% drop of Murmur (Last boss) in Shadow Labyrinth, I got it on my 2nd run. This is a superb 70 weapon all the way until you start running 25 mans to replace.

The first instance run I did when I hit 70 was Shadow Labs... I had no idea what drops to expect, but this dropped off the last boss and made me a happy rogue.

I got one on my first SL run... very lucky. Got my 2nd a few runs later. When I had one, I enchanted it with +4 dmg, and when I got the 2nd I changed the enchants to dual +15 agility (I'm waiting for my end game epics for the Mongoose). One thing I gotta say was a little disappointing was that the glow from the enchants does NOT span the entire length of the dagger. The tip, for some reason ends up with no glow. (uploaded pic)

Got mine last night on my 5th SL run and even if it looks a bit silly it the best dagger for Mutilate-rogues until you hit Kara or heroic dungeons I also won the Cloak of the Inciter so all in all a pretty good run.

I would just like to tell those that may not know that any +weapon skill is important, get as much as you can because it adds alot to your stats. This also has some good dmg to it although slow its good for MH, so i agree with the coments so far, this is a very good dagger for mutilation spec imo. Although i have not used it i will be trying to get it now.

Lets compare this with Riftmaker.(rogues)
Riftmaker requires exhalted with KoT and spend some money, which means you have to do perferably Black Morass over and over again.
This one's damage is lower but has 21 stamina while Riftmaker has none, and you can get it by running SL which gives most rep for Lower City on the way to exhalted.(for Shapeshifter's Signet)
So both are quite worth getting.

Wow it took me weeks of grinding to get Murmur to finally drop the dagger, and a dps shaman won it. Oh well, at least he did ask permission. All the best for his game.

Killed (as many others i guess) this damn boss seriously 30+ times and i havent seen this dagger drop, now, i had a chance yesterday to join a party for shadow lab, since i needed to go to BM i didnt go, guess what, and im serious, this damn dagger drops for the party i could have joined, now im never going to that instance again, never laying my finger on murmur again, worst drop rate ever. (!)/ a pissed of rogue

This may make some of you mad, I just got this dagger last night and I was histarical.. Mainly because it was my first run in the dungeon and I had no idea it dropped off the guy we killed.

Even worse, I won it at 69 so I can't even use it yet, I CAN"T WAIT TO HIT 70, Once i'm off work I'm not going to bed till I'm weilding this dagger...

Hell of a Dagger. Unfortunatly no Rogues were present, I felt guilty but I took it for my offhand. Nice improvement over Crystaline Kopesh. Im sure Ill be farming Murmur with my Guild's Rogues trying to get another to drop.

Start the fight behind him for Backstabs (every bit of DPS helps this fight), and CoS the first AoE. As soon as it ends, move around to the front, switch to SS and SnD and Sprint out when he sets up for the second AoE. Move back in once it goes off, and resume DPS. If he is still alive for a third AoE, CoS will be up. Stay on your toes, and this fight is easy-peasy. Hell, last time our tank died at 10%, and I had to Evasion tank Murmur, and it went smooth as silk. And he STILL wouldn't fork over my dagger! Selfish jerk...

This fight can easily be done in melee range. He does an emote when he's 'powering up' for the AoE explosion. Just run out (as rogues should be behind him, run to the back wall). If you don't start running right when he says it, you WILL get hit.

But the stamina TBC's given us I could take a straight shot from him. It's really one of the easiest boss fights ever for a rogue. Simple tank and spank...if you do it right - you don't even take any damage.

Try going to arcatraz, bosses there are good for leveling up thrown weapon skill. :(

OH hell yea this baby isnt unique. This makes this dagger one of the best pve daggers in the game. Get duel of these babies and get ur dagger skill up by 30. Thats freaking amazing. Oh wait, will it still have the same effect as it would before TBC, i'm not sure. Hmmm, anyone know if blizzard changed anything about this kinda stuff?

LOL, just got it a lil while ago, a fury warrior rolled "need" on it and he rolled a 95. i was like OMG...but i pulled a swift 97 =)

Warriors, little hint, never roll against a rogue that will kill u for this dagger =)...the warrior is my Best Friend!

we did an awesome run yesterday and BANG! the dagger dropped how lucky,
and if like this wasnt enough today i went to my first run to botanica and BANG! the offhand dagger drops this is just CRAZY how much luck in 2 days :)

just be patient luck can appear at any moment,

if you plan on farming one of those daggers try first
the whispering blade of slaying because each full run is like 2.5k rep with lower city youll get a nice ring in exalted

btw im dagger rogue if i didnt mention

because most rogues skills REQUIRE a dagger to be equipped. exceptions are mace and sword rogues (which are kinda boring to play).

It's a matter of design.
Why should hunters get first pick on ranged weapons?
First and most obvios reason is because it's their BEST source of dmg. The whole class is BASED on their ability to pump out dmg at range both with a pet and ranged weapons.
And its pretty much the same for rogues with the exception of full combat spec rogues you wont see rogues with anything but a dagger in the mainhand. Why? because we have multiple abilities that REQUIRE a dagger in the main hand regardless of talent spec. And typically speaking rogues use a slower higher base dmg main hand for the big hits on backstab/ambush and a faster (for applying poisons) high dps weapon in the off hand. Believe me there are plenty of rogues who think we should be able to use our daggers only strikes with fist weapons as well.

Rogues get priority because of ambush/backstab/mutilate. I just lost a roll to a hunter 96 to 99. I'm sure the upper damage range will really help him out. I don't roll on cloth or bows, why should other classes roll against rogues on this kind of thing just because they're able to equip them?

A hunter rolled need on Ced's Carver when it dropped in shadow labs! Then he rolled need on this too! Over me (rogue). Now he's selling Ced's Carver on AH.

From my experiences fighting Murmur, I have found that rogues can pretty much keep themselves alive in this fight. I suggest using deadly poison in the off-hand, and shiv'ing the heck out of him and backstabbing if you can (which would involve standing behind him right?)

The reason deadly poison is so good for this fight is because you'll spend a bit of time running off when you get "the bomb" as well as when he's charging up for his sonic boom.

Rogues you CAN stand behind him and keep yourself up just fine, this is how:

1. Do not stand INSIDE Murmur, he's got a very big Hit-Box and if you are far away as possible (yet in range) then you will be able to run away from his sonic boom (against the wall that rests BEHIND Murmur).

2. Run against the wall and out of Line of Sight :O (you can do that?) That's right folks! Out of sight :) There are some column/pillar like things that serve as a nice little shield.

3. Bandage! Us rogues are used to not being healed in PVP, so we should be ready to do the same in PVE! You'll most likely be out of range of heals anyways using my tactic, but you'll come to realize you don't really need heals, except for after you get the bomb, or if you don't manage to escape the sonic boom (which you should be able to do anyhow)

I personally suggest using Cloak of Shadows when you get the bomb, or if you can absolutly not evade his Sonic Boom. I got a little messy with my own strategy, and found myself with only 800 or so health left, but I went right back into the fight (and in range of heals) figuring the only thing I need to watch out for is that sonic boom and random bomb.

By the WAY! With evasion + cloak of shadows (and if you have prep for that second evasion!) You'll be able to hold your own on the boss long enough for you and the rest of the group (if the tank goes down) to do some major damage.

This fight is really cake for rogues :)

Rogues;do use the cloak of shadows on this boss and you will avoid the damage first try. Next time he blows just use sprint out of range.. Should be down before the 3rd time if you do it right

I have 2 of these on my rogue, it was only a slight upgrade the second time (crystal infused shiv) basically higher top-end for mutilate. Love the dagger, but the look... ugh, it looks so sweet, but why did they take such a cool outline and color it in in paint? I can't stand my char at the loading screen, better pixels please. if you need to, borrow some from TF, it has too many.

I am about 7k from exalted and have not seen this drop once... there are rogues with 2 walking around, so I want to believe the drop rate is 10-15% like Thottbot and Armory says, but my current experience says otherwise...

I must say, if you're a warrior and you roll for this over a rogue that wants it, you deserve to rot in a hole. I'm a fury warrior myself, and I would love to have this baby as an offhand, but the only way I'd ever take it was if a rogue didn't want it or wasn't in the group; if you roll over a rogue on this as a warrior; Log out, delete your account; and uninstall wow.

got this dagger at 69 then saw it drop again at 70 but I already had CED's in OH dmg is good for backstab and ambushes. about 2800 max crit backstab with this as a combat dagger rogue. Mix that with adrenaline rush. Dont know if it has anything to do with envenoms but I got 3k envenom the other night with this equipped.

Ran Shadow labs the other night. God I hate that instance!

I'm a prot spec tanking warrior. This dagger fell off Murmur. I only rolled a /greed but it dropped for me (no rogue in my grp) Can’t say I was after it but I'm messing around using it for grinding and I'm impressed with the DPS.

Still, I'd rather see Hellmaw drop the shield!

Got this a way back and still using it as my OH (enh shammy) good luck getting it though.. I got exalted with lower city before I saw it drop once! Nice dagger and 21 stam on a 1H is very nice... plan on replacing it with a nice n slow 2.6 arena weap.

I got this on my first run. No kidding. I am a mutilate rogue, I have a Gladiator's Shanker in mainhand so I decided to offhand this one. It's a solid upgrade for mutilate rogues from Ced's Carver.
