GREAT cloak. Possibly the best non-raid cloak there is...and adds to shield slam for better soloing!

I hate to say this (I use this cloak), but the Devilshark Cape is better. If you cannot make it to the Steam Vaults, farm BM until this bad boy drops. Enchant it with something fun (I did +15 AG) and you'll be good to go. Easier to get than Devilshark, but it is inferior.

I use it on my bear as a (finally) replacement for a warden's cloak. The +shield block goes to waste, but it's a perfectly fine bear tank cloak

Okay, I've heard a lot of complaints about how this cape is inferior to the Devilshark Cape. Let's apply a little bit of math and see if that is actually true or not.

A quick review before we begin:

The value of a piece of armor is determined by how long it will allow you to live given an arbitrary hostile DPS, a.k.a. it's Time to Live (TtL). It is modified by stamina, damage mitigation, and damage avoidance, represented by Stam, Mit, and Void, respectively. We determine TtL with the following formula:

TtL = Stam / ( DPS * * )

Please note that your total Stamina DOES affect the value of an item in relation to it's armor, and including your total Stamina before adding the stamina from the armor item is necessary for an accurate analysis (see http://evilempireguild.org/guides/acstamina.php for more information). For the purposes of this exercise, total stamina will be assumed to be 12000, and hostile DPS will be set at 200.

Armor Mitigation is given by the formula

Mit = A / ( K + A )

Where K is a function of the attacker's level, K = 467.5L - 22167.5 Which means that for a lvl 70 attacker, K = 10557.5

Also, keep in mind that a given armor increase will increase your TtL by a constant amount of time, irrespective of what your total armor is (see http://evilempireguild.org/guides/diminishing.php for a proof). So when calculating an armor piece's value, you do NOT need to include your total armor.

Avoidance is determined by a number of ratios of various dodge, parry, etc. ratings, however the most important one is Defense rating. For warriors, 2.38 Defense Rating grants 1(one) skill point of defense. One skill point of Defense, in turn, grants a 0.04% increase in your chance to be missed, dodge, parry, and block. (It also reduces your chance to be crit by the same amount, however since there is a cap on the amount of crit reduction at 490 Def Skill, we won't include that.) Therefore, Avoidance is determined by the following formula:

Void = INT( DefRat / 2.38 ) * 0.16 + ( A / 18.9 ) + ( B / 23.1 ) + ( C / 7.9 )

Where INT(_) rounds the resulting number down to the nearest integer, and A, B, and C are avoidances from Dodge, Parry, and Block ratings, respectively.

Now that we know how to determine an item's value, lets begin to compare the Burnoose of Shifting Ages to the Devilshark Cape.

First, let's determine the value* of the Burnoose of Shifting Ages:

(* Since the block values on these two capes are identical, and do not affect TtL directly, they can be ignored.)

Mit = / ( 10557.5 + )
Mit = 2.00%

Void = INT( / 2.38 ) * 0.16
Void = * 0.16
Void = 1.60%

TtL = ( 12000 + ) / ( 200 * * )
TtL = 12150 / ( 192.86 )

TtL = 63.00 sec

Now, let's determine the value of the Devilshark Cape:

78 Armor
22 Stamina
20 Defense Rating
18 Dodge Rating

Mit = / ( 10557.5 + )
Mit = 0.73%

Void = INT( / 2.38 ) * 0.16 + ( / 18.9 )
Void = * 0.16 + ( 0.95 )
Void = 2.23%

TtL = ( 12000 + ) / ( 200 * * )
TtL = 12220 / ( 194.11 )

TtL = 62.95 sec

According to the above numbers, you can clearly see that these two capes give almost exactly the same amount of protection. If anything, the Burnoose gives a miniscule advantage over the Devilshark.

So if you want a nice tanking cape ASAP, pick this one up. It dropped for me on my first try at Black Morass, and I'm not upgrading until I get an epic.

As with Devilshark, this cloak has excellent mitigation and threat generation for a protection warrior. I've used this cape through Karazhan, Gruul, Mag, and in SSC and The Eye as my primary tanking cloak.

Burnoose looks a lot nicer than Devilshark. White with a green border is much prettier than plain blue.

To my belief the drop rate is significally higher than that of devilshark, and higher than the noted 15%.
I saw this drop at 4 out of 8 normal dark portal runs.
As a prot paladin I took one, put +12 Dodge, not going to waist time farming devilshark.

Its a cloak, what they worried you going to dual wield this thing? Maybe equip to over powered rings/trinkets? Its a cloak! You can only have one on...

Finally got it after about 10 runs. Not many compared to some people aye but was enough :). Just a shame i'm now a DPS warrior xD

i cant seem to get my hands on this cloak, from all the refence sites i find it says its in Black Morass, from the first boss Chrono Lord Deja, i killed him 35 time and he doesnt seem to wanna drop this cape he is the guy that drops it right?

Recently did BM. This dropped off 2nd boss. Coincidentally, it was my 2nd run.

Yet I've done SV about hrmm.. 8-10 times and no Devilshark. *grumble*

This is a solid Prot Tank cloak, of which I am. I don't understand why a druid would want this over Thoriumweave cloak. Maybe they took one too many shots to their bear head? :P

teh defense on the cap adds to more armor and helps us to dodge, parry, and decreases our chance to be critically hit.

For all the druids that want to post that they should get this cloak, if you have a warrior in the run that does not already have this then you are a moron for rolling on it. Yes everything you said is right and it does you some good but it does more for the warrior class or even pallys for that matter. +shield block is sweet and any warrior would be well within his rights to take you out back and skin your dire form for rolling on this.

Got this and the Bold Leggings on my last Black Morass run. Nearly wet myself when I saw this.

Very nice Tanking cape, this or the Devilshark cape is an excellent cape for a Tank.

Druids may not get the benefit of the +shield block but the high armor value and +Defense make it a viable choice. Though try giving the right of way to the shield users first, like me =).

It could be a big upgrade. If a druid is tanking, it should go to them hands down. Defense is a must. When's the last time you heard someone say a warrior couldn't roll on something "because there's better out there"? That's just %^&*!@ed.

Whatever class is tanking should be the only one to 'need' this, be it warrior, druid, or paladin. A DPS or healing druid shouldn't have any more right to roll on it than a fury warrior or protection paladin.

I always hate to say this sort of thing but, this dropped for me on my second run through BM. Slapped the +120 armor enchant on it and rocked out. My $.02 this is a warrior piece so please stop the insanity.
