This also has the third highest armor of any leather chestpiece in the game (behind Tier 5 and Ghoul Skin Tunic from Naxxramas). Its probably the best tanking piece a Druid can get outside of raids.

Anyone know how this is going to change in the 2.1 patch? The notes say some items will change armor or stats, wondering if this is one.

This is actually a really excellent chest from the agility and armor, kinda feels better than it should be for the level... but then, there aren't a lot of good feral tanking pieces with excess armor, so that might not be saying a lot. And @ Kurazzi, that list is extremely flawed for not taking into account armor for tanking purposes. Armor is the best bear tanking stat there is.

this chestpiece is sick for a feral druid, for cat and tank.
cat: 32 str, 25 agi =89 ap + stam fcourse

and for a tank, around 2k armor! wich is realy great :) first thing to replace is with (as far as i know) is the heavy cleft vest. (for tanking tht is)

As a feral druid you MUST obtain this item, as it is a really easyquest

i say for a combat spec rogue as myself this chest is GREAT im lv 62 now and i still use it hehe i can ensure its very good for any rogue
the armor is great + alot of stats

Unless you have an extreme dislike for leather this stat wise is acceptable to take as a warrior IMHO, mostly only if you are 58 and still in greens it can be a fitting carry over armor to actually use before vendoring, the piece is clearly a feral druid or rogue item tho.

This Chest is insane...

Not including any set bonus, compared to a Rogue Tier 3 Chest..(Bonescythe Breastplate) this Chest has..

125 more armor

7 less Stamina

23 more Strength (Tier 3 chest has no Strength bonus)

22 more Agility (Tier 3 chest has no Agility bonus)

But, Bonescythe gives you a 1% bonus to hit, a 2% crit bonus, and +80 attack power.

BUT...

with the +22 Agility and the +23 Strength, you do get the equivalent of +22 Attack Power

awfully close though at the end...lol

(this is a general level 70 epic)
You'd gain 4ar, 15str, 7agi, 8sta and 3 sockets.

Not effin shabby for a blue you can pick up by level 61 or 62.

This chest peice is more for a druid imo. It's not to shabby for a sword rogue to, but as a sword rogue I would rather have the Darkstorm chest b/c of the added AP. For a tanking druid, or even a cat druid this chest peice is much better.

Wow, could Blizzard have not been paying attention to the amount of armor they slapped on this piece? I felt almost guilty taking it, thinking the game makers made a mistake. It has 42 MORE armor than Breastplate of Malorne (Tier 4 Feral) and only 4 less armor than Nordrassil Chestplate (Tier 5 Feral). Unreal reward for one of the very early Outland quests.

So how does this compare to the Darkstorm Tunic? Will this Jerkin be good for both cat and bear, or should I keep the Tunic around for cat?

I don't think anyone has actually posted the amount a Bear (feral) gets from this piece. If my add on is right I get 2389 armor. Not to mention the 340Hp. 2.09 dodge. 54 attack power. 1.23% crit. and also in my case +7 healing.lol

So pretty amazing gear. XD

This has almost as much armor as my old PLATE Hydralick Armor O_o

I replaced it with this, until I got Protectorate Breastplate on the next quest... TBC is messing with my head, first replacing a blue PLATE chest with a blue leather chest, then replacing that with a green like 10 minutes later, lol...

This is the reward from a farmer chain of quests in outland. A guy in thrallhammer (if horde) send you out for some farming. Turn in and get a quest for some blood. I believe after the blood you get sent to kill somebody. Kill him and turn in for this reward.

It CLOBBERS the thick sillithid chest from Moam and I think this is on par with Malf's. With the buffs bears got to armor (360% to 450%), this chest will send feral armor for bears through the roof!

an AMAZING chest piece when you consider how effortlessly easy the quest for it is. Especially if your alliance. Seriously its a complete no brainer.

Here's what someone posted in the comments for the Feather Vest, another possible reward for this quest, about how to start this questline as Horde:

1. "Wanted: Worg Master Kruush" Go to Spinebreaker Post and get the quest from the wanted poster at the entrance. Go into Zeth'Gor and find the stables. Kill Kruush (60 non elite) and his two wolves, loot head, run back to spinebreaker...

2. "Zeth'Gor Must Burn"- pick up this quest from Captain Darkhowl. Go back to Zeth'Gor and kill Peons. They will drop torches. You only need 4. Light the torches (right click on their icon) at the camp's forge. Then go find the 4 buildings that need to be burned and right click on your lighted torches. This part was super easy as it was crawling with players killing all the mobs. Go back to Spinebreaker and find Captain Darkhowl. Finishing the last quest seems to open up Zezzak's quest for you, and that is:

3. "The Eyes of Grillok"- Talk to Zezzak, he is there sitting down in Spinebreaker. Take the Shard and use it on an Eye of Grillok. I found one there by the forge. You will turn green and then run back- you have 5 minutes to turn in the quest. Then he will give you the last quest:

4. "Grillok "Darkeye""- Get Darkeye's eye patch. He's a 61 non elite but takes a while to wear down. He is found outside the camp in a cave behind the cauldron. There were lots of mobs around and my first attempt I had to abandon (had like 6-7 mobs on me). When I healed up and came back, someone else had pulled most of the mobs so I went for it. He has two adds but only one aggroed. I thought, cool, just two, but then it got difficult because I aggroed two more mobs outside, seems that those boars have wiiide aggro ranges. I killed Darkeye, looted his eyepatch and then was about to die but a friendly alliance player pulled all the aggro off me. Might be best to two man this part unless you have really good gear. Turned the quest in to Zezzak at Spinebreaker, got the chestpiece. Awesome.

Did this today with a couple of guildies. I'd done all but the last step, but they needed to get the pre-req's. "The Eyes of Grillok" became available for them as soon as they turned in #1 "Worg Master Kruush".

This is one of the best leather chestpieces out there, esp. for rogues. It is in fact, the highest armor chestpiece useable by a rogue out there (unless one looks at Ghoul Skin Tunic, but that's Nax gear) and it has great stats.
My rogue is 69 and I have yet to find something better.

The rewand is crappy for rogues, you can get Darkstorm Tunic earlier and it's better. You lose 0.03 % crit with Darkstorm +- 0 HP and + loads of AP.

I have Warden's Hauberk which has twice the Agility, although the Jerkin has slight higher mitigation, once u shocket the wardens with some strength as I did it adds another 20dps and some how it is higher than the Jerkin :)

The mitigation through dodge in Cat form is outstanding compared to this and the bear form mitigation is basically the same.

I think it is good but not as good as you think...

Got the "battle seeker chestguard" before this one (outland Q aswell).

For a rogue :

The jerkin gives lower ap (23 str = 23 ap) vs 38.
Lil higher agi (only 3 agi).
And lower sta (chestguard has 30 sta).

The higher migration doesnt really do it for me, considering the loss both AP and sta.

5/22 patch gives this 26 strength, 25 agility, 22 stamina now.

Anyone happen to know if there is a leather chest piece that either can be made and is boe, or drops in an instance that has better armor then this one - have a 70 feral druid and I just have not found anything else with the armor that this does.

I am about to choose the item as the quest reward for killing Grillok - but I noticed the armor amount is in green rather than white. Doesn't this mean that bear form will not magnify the armor?

For the druids out there, this is the best chestpiece for feral unitl around 70. If you are a tank like I am use this until you can get the Heavy Clefthoof Vest https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25689/heavy-clefthoof-vest . Unless you want to do alot of pvp then get the Merciless Galdiator stuff until end game sets. And you don't have to take my word for it. Check out this mitigation for all druid bear armours.

Works well for my combat rogue too.
It's almost TOO good, because now I keep getting all those awesome chest pieces from later quests, and they completely suck compare to Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit.

I went to the Auction House and checked out what was available and it's gonna be a WHILE before the blue or even some of the epic gear matches the armor stat for the Jerkin.
