For Hemo rogues, doesn't hit quite as hard as the 2.9 level 60 rank 14 sword, but I think the extra 12 dps would make up for that.

It's all about average damage really.

The R14 sword average hit is 172.5 (138+207/2)
Average Hemo Calculation: 172.5 + 1500*2.9/14 + 10 = 493

Edge of the Cosmos average hit is 186.5 (130+243/2)
Average Hemo Calculation: 186.5 + 1500*2.6/14 + 10 = 475

So you can see that hemo alone will average higher hits with a R14 sword. Obviously the higher dps on Edge of the Cosmos will make up for this in general. However, lets take a look at Illidari-Bane Broadsword.

Illidari-Bane Broadsword average hit is 193.5 (135+252/2)
Average Hemo Calculation: 193.5 + 1500*2.7/14 + 10 = 493

So we see that even with Illidari-Bane's much higher top end damage, it still is only even with R14 on average for hemo. However, like Edge of the Cosmos, it has much higher normal DPS, which makes it the best easy to aquire sword for hemo.

Great sword full prot warrior but likely to respecc fury when this drops for me this as MH and Latros as OH whould do some nice damage HOWEVER after 32 runs into Mechanar (yes 32, easiest way to farm the rep with Sha'tar in the end we finished a run in littl eover 1 hour not übergeared) and it has NEVER dropped I just can't seem to get the stuff I need from Mechanar (ok did get epic dps-chest there, and countless shards)
what I wanna say if you have some that's allmost as good DO NOT try to farm for this sword it takes way to long (I could just be unlucky ofc)

For a rogue that is looking to spec combat swords this is an amazing mainhand untill you get the arena mainhand or something out of kara.

The drop rate is pretty terrible...I have run Mechanar ~20 times on my hunter and have never seen it.

Which makes me sad because my rogue is combat swords and is using Blood Groove Blade of the Bandit. :-/

This is pretty much equal to Grand Marshal Slicer
They both have an average damage of 186.5 with a speed of 2.6

If you use this over the slicer you lose 5 stamina, 8 hit rating and 9 resilience
However you gain 3 critical strike rating and 4 attack power

For a sword rogue I would much rather use the slicer because it has a much larger low end damage and has hit rating however the resilience is worthless if your going only for PvE stats.

Sweet sword, sword equivalent of demonblood eviscerator. Looks kind of cool too, the demonblood fist is just a claw of the black drake. =.=

Got this and Jade-skull Breastplate on a Mech run last night. Jade-skull was a nice upgrade for my tanking gear, and this will work great with the offhand fist weapon from Bot when i need to farm.

I want this with Lathros for my Rogue. DPS will be nice. Then I start working on my Gladiator's sword. This is the only sword upgrade i will get if I don't get in to Karahzan right away.

so that sword drops, primal nether, and that damn caster blade. for some reason the prot spec'd warrior needed it after he needed the axe from the nethermancer boss.

needless to say i was pissed since he took an awesome slow weapon which as far as my melee brain goes, prot's need fast weapons (by melee brain i mean rogue however would you take this after needing every other 1-handed melee wep in here?)

oh and he took the primal nether too.

Its nice for a prot speced warrior to tank with a fast weapon....

But for soloing and DPS (even though laughable as a prot spec), a slower weapon is better to have in the Main hand due to the fact that devastate is based upon weapon damage. Slower weapons = a higher amount of devastate damage...and since devastate spamming while DWing works well when soloing/DPSing, I could see why he wanted it.

But still, better in the hands of a DPS class like yourself. Sorry to hear that you missed out on a drop when the warrior got 2 :(.

This game seems to be getting a bit...repetitive because you will notice most of the lvl 70 1 handed weapons all have the same dps...just different stats, has it always been like this cause im just noticing now

Hmm..

Ok so im a rogue and im not sure what i should do..

As ive heard from many of my lvl 70 friends (all rogues) a rogue should have a slower weapon in the main hand and a fast weapon in the off hand..
Now this weapon.. well its slow.. now im not sure.. would it be better to have.. :

1. Millenium Blade - Main Hand and
Latros Shifting Sword - Off Hand

or

2. Edge of the Cosmos - Main Hand and
Millenium Blade - Off Hand

or

3. Edge of the Cosmos - Main Hand and
Latros Shifting Sword - Off Hand

So im hoping a Sword-Rogue or someone who knows a lot about them ( ^^ ) could tell me what the best combination would be if i were to get these three swords :)

Whether you are a combat or Hemo build the slower the mainhand weapon the better. You should always lean towards a 2.6 speed plus weapon in the mainhand. Infortunatly in TBC 2.6 - 2.7 speed mainhand swords seem as good as it gets, so i would firmly suggest edge of cosmos mainhand.

For offhand weapons a faster sword is required for poison application and combat potency (a combat talent). Ideally you should aim for 1.2-1.6 speed blades. I would strongly suggest latros shfting sword as it has an amazing speed 1.4.

Note: I personally would not turn down a 1.8 speed offhand sword if the quality was good enough. However im Hemo spec so combat potency is not an issue.

Ok so I am also a Combat/Sword Rogue but I like this sword as main hand and the Millennium Blade in my offhand. Reason is Combat Potency only comes about 5% of the time for me while I have no problem building poisons very fast on my targets. Dont know if other people see the same low rate with Combat Potency but for me the added DPS from the Millennium Blade is very nice in Instances were I usually beat out the other party members in DPS

Btw... if ur combat potency only procs 5% of the time, its probably ur hit rating, at a combat rogue myself, i have learned that the more hit rating u stack, the less ur offhand misses, the more chance of combat potency to proc. and combat potency procs off of swords procs from ur offhand as well. just a tip

This is a nice sword i would like to get one for my self but the last 6 runs havnt gone to well groups always brake up i am starting to think ally just cant finish instences. "o well rogue ftw"

was looking for my tunic of assassination, didnt expect it to drop cause it was my furst run. Edge of the Cosmos dropped first time though. then i got another then enchanted them with 15 agiity :P

Got this last night on my first Mech run. I have to say this was probably the easiest boss in the instance...strangely enough.

Prior to getting it I had Blackout in my mainhand and I can honestly say I have not really noticed a drop in speed with this. I come from the school of combat rogues who think that SS crits are nice, but that its the near endless stream of white damage that makes or breaks the rogue in instance/raid environments. Though I was initially wary about the speed, I have to say I am quite pleased.

im arms/fury spec warrior ran mech and the sword and the gun drops hehe im a very lucky warrior..forgot to say im the tank arms rule!..we ran it twiced but the loots are all same from th first boss up to the last ..i was hoping the jade skull breastplate would but it didnt :(

I think this is one of the best weapons you can get with out raiding, good for a melee classes, especial rogues

Drop rate is random like anything else. Took me three runs to get my assassination chest from Pantheon, saw Edge of Cosmos 4 times first 20 runs. I picked up two for no reason but no one wanted and no DE - I'm mace rogue with crafted weap and no need for it. Took me over 40 runs to get the abacus from Pantheon... only time previous I'd seen it a hunter beat me on the need roll. Around my 45th (give or take) the abacus dropped. Random, but I believe the Edge has a fairly high droprate. Also drops on heroic of course.

Just got this yesterday on my first run to The Mechanar... :D
Pathaleon dropped this and Mana Wrath. I am an assassination rogue, so i'd rather have got Tunic of Assassination, but the pally wanted Mana Wrath and rest of group (priest, druid and lock) all passed it, so i got it...
Very nice main-hand, even for me, though it will not beat two daggers in dungeon use... Also looks cool!

I have no idea how many times I have seen this drop when there is no rogue...
And then I do a run with a rogue and the caster sword drops.
And of course me being a Prot warrior the ring never drops either...
I have conistently seen all of this guy's drops be DE'd. Once a Pally got his helm.
So kids, the moral of this story is you will never get what you want...

If you're tanking you don't want your wepon to be above 1.8 speed at the most. And yes, it is nice for us rogues.

imo https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28956/grand-marshals-slicer is a better MH than this. it has extra hit rating, more base DPS, slightly less AP, and it gets the job done. i must admit this is the best DROPPED blue for a combat sword rogue (as far as my research warrants), and with the limited upgrade paths they gave to us in BC, if you dont feel like farming the honor / tokens for the GM slicer, this is a great alternative.

Not a hunter weapon? That's some kind of narrow thinkin' goin' on. With the enchants these days, this sword is certainly fair game.

Stam, Crit, AP <- useful to hunters. No?

I'm a hunter and picked this up on a need roll. The group consisted of two priests (holy and shadow) and two warriors (prot and arms) and both warriors had far superior weapons. So, no one contested when I asked if I could roll "Need" (I was still toting a green 55dps sword, cuz I don't have the luck that some of you have, apparently.) The sword is a "raw" weapon. Meaning, it was meant to suit the whims of whoever could utilize it...and it will serve them better if they add an enchant that suits their class, and style of play.

And, just because we wield a range attack...doesn't mean that we NEVER melee. So the DPS is useful there.

Are there better swords? Sure, but if you're still wielding greens with lesser stats...go ahead and NEED and slap an agil or intel enchant on it. The DPS alone is better than any green you'll loot in Nethermoon or Shadowmoon when you're just out running around.

Seriously, though, if there's a rogue or even a warrior in your group that's whippin greens or old blues around...Hunters, let them have the Edge. Maybe you'll pick it up the next go-around. But, if they're wielding anything equivelent or better than this....it's fair game for you too.

As far as hunters being the most selfish of characters, well all I can say is that you may know some bad (selfish) hunters, but I know some darn selfish rogues. So, it's not a "class" thing...it's a player thing. This hunter is far from selfish. I have been known to farm my but off to buy people mounts...even flying mounts; to provide easy/free mats for friends and guildmates for their trade skills; run people through dungeons or quests for Free, and even refuse to pick up loot saying "It's your group...It's your loot." So stop the class bashing...it's the player.
