It is exactly like the Argent Dawn tabard. Seeing that the Argent Dawn are the ones handing out the quest.

The "use" on the tabard creates the same effect as the priest "holy nova" and makes you flex. Has a 5 minute cooldown.

The use effect is only visual, it will not heal you nor damage anything.

I did not get this buff when I used the tabard near the portal, on either side. Are you sure you did not mistake the standard "Honorless" buff you get from zoning?

I heard the portal opening event will be re-enacted on the same date every year, id est January 16th.

Anyone who can confirm this or will we just have to wait and see?

I don't know, but seeing how they did not do a second "scourge invasion" event during the summer, I would be lead to believe that an event is a one-time shot. It would not make much sense either if demons started pouring out of the portal when there are hundreds of players already on the other side (remember that the portal is heavily fortified on the other side now, and the demons are blocked by both the alliance and the horde).

There might be something similar for the second expansion though.

If you stand around the battle long enough, from time to time a group of elites will manage to run through the allied forces without being aggroed. They head right up the stairs and through the portal... unfortunately nothing comes out the Azeroth side.

On the Darth'Remar Server the drak Portal Bugged out and blizzard had to restart outlands. after they did this the quest came back with the world events

this tabard has no global cooldown.
i made my death coil a macro to pop deathcoil while using this tabard. it struck fear into the hearts of my enemies, let me assure you. it has a huge AoE holy nova type thing as well as a little sound effect.

I believe this quest is only available during the Opening of the Dark Portal server event. To do the quest for this, go to the Blasted Lands and one of the Argent Dawn NPC's will have this quest. To complete the quest, you must kill 6 of the Invader Felguards I believe.

Best to have an AOE party member since tons of Alliance/Horde characters will be competing against you to get the 6 kills.

when you use this item near the dark portal it gives you a 2 min battle shout buff increasing your attack power by 260. if you use it anywhere else its pretty much useless.

The NPC to start this quest (Agent Proudwell) is directly in front of the Dark Portal, surrounded by a small guard of Argent Dawn NPCs.

Besides doing a /flex and a pretty sparkling dome effect, I haven't worked out if this actually does anything else, no effects are showing up in any of the logs so /shrug

Yes if you click on item after it's equipped, it will emote flex with a "sparkling dome effect". The 5 min CD is dumb.

for alliance at least, there is a guy standing outside the portal, directly in front of it, I think the quest is 55+ (level 50 friend, could not get it), just kill 6 invading demons. You get some gold (like 4) and the tabard for your reward

i went there with my 58 alt (druid) and main 60 (rogue). The quest giver stands in the middle of the dark portal crater. You need to kill 6 invading felguards (lvl60 non elite). These mobs and more come swarming out of the portal (also includes voidwalkers and Commanding Felguards, if i remember correctly).
Its really easy to complete the quest, just tag 1 and pull it back into the npc's. with their help they go down very fast. Or bring a healer and tank. With my druid i tagged and tanked 4 of them and a 58 priest healed me, i pulled them back into the npc's and we got 4 kills at once.

This could be a bit more difficult if you're on a pvp server. There are always some gankers around (be it alliance or horde, doesnt matter). But stick with it and the reward is worth it.

Its your own: I was at the portal event and all i got was this lousy tabard.

Edit: i got approx 6k xp and 90s at lvl58 and 4g at lvl60. But you dont get AD rep like suggested in a post by War212.

was the tabard quest obtainable only on the day this event was announced? because now i can't find any questgivers around or infront of the dark portal

the questgiver was only there for the pre-opening event. Now that the portal is open. the questgiver is gone. Just like the questgiver for the Argent Dawn Tabard (wich came with the naxx patch)

I can second the Overlord Kruul.
When he was invading, I tried the Tabard of the Protector's effect while in battle with him. and it gave off a 30sec buff that did something...I didn't get to see what the buff was though...he killed me shortly after using the tabard. (Thats what I get for trying it out alone)

yea the quest ended when TBC came out, but for all those who go it i congradulate you on a job well done, hehehe you can seperate the bc newbs from the originals :D

Why should they make it avaliable again? It was from a special event and the tabard wouldn't be cool anymore if everyone had it.

I hate to have read what all of those people wrote 7 months ago about how its vendor trash and stuff. this is the best tabard in the game, the only one iv ever heard of that actually DOES anything, and i am very glad i got it in the couple weeks or w/e when i could.

I really like this tabard, it looks great.

I wasn't around for the Scourge Invasion, so I was very happy to get it when tbc launched.

Chances are that the Argent Dawn may find themselves handing out another round of 'free' t-shirts/tabards, when the Lich King unleashes his wrath on Azeroth once again.
(Can't imagine Blizz not letting all hell loose on Azeroth in another 'world event' when 'Wrath' lands).

I hope they change the tabard design slightly, but if they don't that's also cool, just a different kind of cool :)

Or they could go for a different kind of merchandise and hand out 'mouse on harley' pets, but that'd be kind of hard to top off in later expansions...

Was good fun when Kazzak opened the Dark Portal... and demons screamed into our world.
Those epic days of constant Argent Dawn vs Burning Legion action in the Blasted Lands were good fun.

looked into it my server bugged and possibly he is in the same one and it temporarily went to the setting of this event so even krull showed up again for a little bit

This tabard ends up becoming one of the most infamously unique and rare tabards in the game. Don't miss out! The quest Into The Breach (requires level 55 to pickup) is pretty easy and the on use effect is pretty cool in the classic versions of the game.

Ask a local mage for a port to Stonard (which in TBC is one of the most useful ports around) and simply ride south to the Dark Portal in Blasted Lands. If by some chance no mages are around or if you'd rather journey on foot, the STV Zep from Undercity or Orgrimmar is your best bet as Horde, you'll have to go north to Duskwood, then all the way east through Deadwind pass, then east again to the Swamp of Sorrows, and then finally south into Blasted Lands, traveling south through the zone until you reach the Dark Portal.

There are some mobs along the way that can kill you and the run back is a little lengthy, but dont give up! This tabard is only available to obtain during the TBC pre-patch!

Other: Questie did not show Argent Emissary Proudwell on the world map for me, but once I was in range her exclamation mark appeared on the mini map.

If you obtained this and lost or deleted it at any point, or are hurting on bank space, note that a Tabard Vendor by the Guild Master in any major city will give you a brand new one for free any time you like. It's not in his shop, but is a dialogue option: "I've lost my Tabard of the Protector."
