Nice Weapon, but as a hunter, i would probably prefer Post 2.1.0 weapon from Wizard of Oz Event;

Comparing it to this axe, you lose 20 Stam (200 Life Without Survivalist or Endurance Training, 210 w/ ET, 220 w/ Survivalist, and 230 w/ Both)
and 4 AP (Hardly worth show you calculations)

But You gain +40 Agi (Not Sure on Crit) which obviously translates into +40 AP, turning that measely 80 into 120. Ontop you gain 8mp5, which is also quite nice.

I myself, as a hunter would like to see a more specific Hunter Melee weapon drop at one point or another;
similar to Lothar's Edge.

Something with say (Fake Stats, just throwing out ideas);

+35 Agi
+25 Stam
+20 Int
+70 AP
+15 Rating To All Ranged
+14 Rating To Hit
+18 Rating To Crit

The 2.1 version of the axe was given a larger "handle" so it no longer looks like a "cleaver". (The handle is the old handle graphic put end-to-end to be twice as long.)

AotGL+Savagery = great for AP/STA
Legacy+35agi= great for Crit/AP

Depending on the fight, each has it's uses. (I suggest collecting both of them, and vary based on fight requirements)

Typically, the toon that is capable of getting either of these weapons does not have a problem with +hit.

Neither Sonic Spear or Hellforged Halbred/ Blackend Spear are more capable than either AotGL or Legacy.

Out of all the damn weapons warriors and shamans get can you at least give a touch of priority on a hunter? This is actually really nice for us. The previous fight requires hunters to OT one of the bosses so saying stam is useless for us is stupid. Not saying 100% but Gorehowl is 10x better then this and way easier to obtain. You would gain (with a pally) about 10 stam and 8 str (give or take) and lose 42 agility... 1.72 crit rating. You are dumb to think that this is better then gorehowl even for pvp. Sorry but 100 health and like 15 ap for a loss of 42 agility is stupid even against a team with 400 resil.

Just doing the quick math, this only has 4 AP (40 of which is pure agi OMG) and 20 stam over Legacy. I think I'll keep my Legacy, kthxbye. Also, this is often dubbed the poop-with-rocks axe.

<edit> Although, if this drops you might wanna pick it up for PvP because of that 20 stam. But Legacy is still better for hunters, IMO.

Having both and Sonic Spear and Axe of the Gronn Lords, I can confirm that they're pretty much equal (with Sonic spear having a savagery and AotGL with agi, then they're actually nearly exactly the same same for dps). You're basically sacrificing the hit rating on Sonic Spear for the Stamina and Melee DPS on AotGL.. I'm still disappointed that I rolled on it.

RadioBandit, you are forgetting how much 124 ap is worth... For a hunter at least this is way superiour after my opinion than legacy... True you lose agi but still... And if you are a Attack Power hunter its just imba!

Although the infamous Stornherald is infinately better for PvP due to its stun and agility, it's also a lot harder (and expensive) to get. This axe, although being a little faster than Stormherald, would still serve well for an arms warrior because of its attack power and very high stamina (both of which are essential for PvP MS warriors). Not to mention that, dropping off gruul, it's a lot easier to get your hands on. Also, although its off the point, this axe looks pretty original (looks like a heavy rock on a large stick with stone teeth growing out of it). Although gorehowl is a nice toy, I'd definately go for this or 'Jin'Rokh, the Great Apocalypse' with an executioner on both for an effective hybrid between an arms warrior PvP and an arms warrior DPS PvE weapon (the latter drops off Zul'Jin in Zul'Aman)

i play a 70 warrior. TBH, this axe is good in the hands of the four classes than can use it: Warrior, shammy, pally, and hunter.

secondly: hunters can get sonic spear, and yes, its better than this. HOWEVER: its the same thing; doesnt drop every run. I know a hunter who has run shadow labs 30+ times and never seen this spear. I realize shadow labs can be run again and again, but, honestly, shadow labs sucks. i had to run that %^&* 18 times for my shield, and I'm not going back unless paid.

As for shamans and pallies...Legacy is better for you...but, again, it doesnt drop all the time. So feel free to fight over it; either loot council or dkp decides who gets this.

oh, and as to who will use this the most in raids? hunters will and warriors...but hunters more. Warriors pull aggro easily with 2h crits, as do enh. shammies, and pallies....well, pally dps sucks. When it dropped tonight, I was a happy camper when it came my way. Yes I am a Hunter, YES it is as good on a hunter as it is on any class that can use a two hander. Don't just look at the DPS it has on it, look at the stats.

Swalton, not sure what your smokin, but that level 62 staff is ok, at level 62. But sucks balls at level 70. Greens and blues kick the crap out of it.
Try something like the Sonic Spear
Sonic Spear you want something to compare. That Explorer's Walking Stick you are trying to compare the Gronns axe to, isn't even in the same ballpark with it.

Just got this axe. While I rarely melee.. regular melee critting for over 2k is rather nice on those rare occasions you have to melee. And with savagery, its almost 200ap. not to mention the added stam, which is nice, since alot of bosses and mobs can throw out some nasty aoe damage.

Its good for alot of classes, and I do think there are better weapons for hunters out there, but its a nice replacement.

And besides, 3months of kara on farm with no legacy, and exhalted with lower city and never seeing a sonic drop... hell.. I would almost be dumb not to take it.

And no... I didn't take it over a warrior. I don't roll like that.

Idd actually consider this for my hunter after it gets a buff, yes it gets buffed. 124AP and more stam. But for now? naah Blackend Spear is still way better, best dmg wpn for hunters imo.

as a hunter myself i think hunters shouldnt be allowed this, its a very good dps weapon for warriors, shamans, or palladins Hunters can get Explorer's Walking Stick savergy and have the same stats if not better

well this is definatly a hunter weapon...i play a hunter and i take no shame in saying this is truley hunter....Warriors i can see wanting this for the stam as a pvp toy but most respected guilds that are killing gruul have malchezzar on farm and getting gorehowls anyways...palys and enhance shammies might want as toys too but both are better off with gorehowl as well since strength benefits those classes...by no means do i think that those classes shudnt get it...i jus think priority shud be given to hunters first since they rely on stats alone..and this wep has some uber hunter stats

well just to say, in my experience id say this is for either warirors (the stam) or for hunters (stam and ap) or enhancement shamy (same reason as hunter). if one of those classes wins its not really a problem, since it is for the best

This is a weapon for the masses. It should go to the person who it would benefit most. Just because Kara is on farm doesnt mean that the Gorehowl has dropped. I would take this over the Gorehowl due to the stats. Gorehowl gives you 49 Str = 98AP, a little over 1% crit with the agility, and -140HP's. I'm really not concerned with the Crit as AP is where its at, so I would ultimately take this axe over the Gorehowl. Sure it looks ugly, but when I smash it across someones face they wont think twice about laughing at me. Hunters, Shamans, and paladins can have it if they want, I'm just comparing stats for warriors. If you want it and ur guild lets you...great. If not..why try to analyze what class weapon it is...its for the masses, like stated before. I digress.

I hope you were joking. Mongoose enchant is not for hunters. Unless your one of the &*!@#$%s that melee more than ranged in a fight....Anyway this is definately a prett nice hunter weapon. The stam is great for PVP as well as the AP you get from it. Savagery gives you 180 AP and +35 agil will give you 145 AP and some nice crit/armor as well. I don't see why people say Sonic is better.

My guild just dropped Gruul for the first time and as a hunter I decided to bid on it. I've otherwise had crap weapons and still useing the stuff I had at 60.

No-one else bid.. all the warriors are prot, the paladins holy, no shamans in the raid(didn't turn up for some reason) and the other hunters all had Sonic spear.
All in all it's better to be used by someone than de'd esp from the frist Gruul kill by a guild.
Critting for 1881 is pretty sexy aswell and scared the crap outta mage when he got too close.

If anyone cares, with Savegry on it it adds 180 attack power and that's just over 14DPS.

I'd say that this is the kind of weapon you give to a warrior or a hunter. No int boost so not much help towards pallys or shammys.

Tested some Atlas Loot Links on the PTR and this Axe's graphics got changed in 2.1 -> longer shaft, same bladesize :-)

Kick yourself if you bid no dkp on it because of size :-)

This thing hits like a truck, especially with the high attack power. On top of that, the stamina is very nice for arenas.
It hits a bit harder than Gorehowl, i have both and have tested them enough to have a good feel for it. With this axe you loose the extra crit you get from Gorehowl's agility stats, but with my axes specialization im already well over 33% crit. I just like being able to hit harder all the time.
Slap savagrey on this beast and you have a hot weapon.

About the looks. It is truly the most god awful, ugly weapon i've ever seen in my life. But it sure does get the job done :)
I even wrote a macro for trash talk in arena.. "say hello to my ugly stick" that i causally spam when i smoke some stupid rogue who tries to go toe to to with me.
MS Warriors, enjoy.

this axe looks like gruul craped it out of his ass when he was wasted or sumthing anyway its a pretty good MS warrior wep cuzz of the high dps it has and AP and speed but also good for hunters even though its slow.... ench shammys wont rly benefit from it first off no strenght or intel OR agil and god knows how much shammy's need agil.... so basicly it would go of a range from

1: MS poleaxe specialy warrior/Survivale BM hunter

2:ret pally/ench shammy

You guys who say that this axe "isn't good for hunters" really make me laugh. You can't make a blanket statemtent like that: for a hunter who has a ton of +AGI on most of his or her other gear and would like to really boost RAP, this axe + Savagery ench is the best bet.

I got this last night and was very reluctant to roll on it but I ended up being the only person rolling.

Due to luck, I have gotten the Season 2 Arena Shoulders and Pants soooo I dont need a lot outta Gruul's area cept maybe the trinket or a second set of armor after we are full farming this area.

Regardless... I am 31/30 MM/Surv and I still think this is as good as Legacy and here is why.

While raid buffed I swapped between Legacy and this and found the following....

1) drop of 0.3 in Ranged DPS with this Axe as really the only obvious negative.

Yes I also lose a little dodge and a little crit but in Raid I am sitting at about 30-35% crit sooooo its not that bad. Big thing is the gain in HP.

Also I do PVP in both Battleground / Arena soooo the melee dps is nice.

All in all, I think this was a decent upgrade expecially since nobody else wanted it. Much better than DEing it.

everyone seems to be very upset about one-another's opinion about who should get this. and me being the peaceful guy i am. believe that if you're still using blues in a raid and your guild WANTS you to have this then dont be an turd and let it get disenchanted. that being said i played WSG and a dwarf warrior tore me a new @#$%^&* with this... i mean it was crazy, and im not gunna be an ass and say OMG HUNTERS ONLY NEED RANGED WEAPONS WTF. instead ima say this; How many times were we all %^&*!ing about you guys needing to be nerfed before bc? and what happened? you STILL kicked our asses, but thats pvp and this is raiding and if you benefit more from this axe then you roll/bid on it without giving it another thought.

Besides. its not your guild is going to stop running gruul's after you get that axe, right? theres plenty more chances for everyone.

Great axe, but there probably wont be any big arguments over this.

Any guild which can kill grull will be able to kill him quickly after a few attempts, and then go do mag or something.

That being said there's lots and lots and lots of 2 handers which warriors can use.

This is VERY useful for an MM hunter and there's not too many 2 handers which you can say that about.

I suspect tho that we will see more decent 2 handers in the ret pally/enh shamen/hunter mold now that rets are getting buffed..

When it comes right down to it, this axe isn't there to be better than anything else as far as PvE is concerned. For the 4 classes that can use this axe, there is a better item that drops in earlier content.

For Warriors, there is Gorehowl.
For Hunters, there is Sonic Spear and Legacy.
For Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shamans, there is Gorehowl, Legacy, and Hammer of the Naruu.

This axe is here as a bone to be thrown out to anyone who has not gotten one of these other drops previously. I am an enhancement shaman that got this axe last night. I have been trying to get a 2-hander for PVP for months, but every time one has dropped, somebody else has needed. I've seen Gorehowl 2-3 times, never seen Legacy, seen Hammer of the Naruu once or twice, and seen this axe once previously. When this beauty finally dropped last night, I was the only one who needed it. Promptly went straight to Eye of the Storm and had a blast. :)

Rolls/DKP/Loot Council will decide who gets this. but if you lose, don't be bitter. There's plenty of other 2-handers out there. Just need a bit of luck with the drop.

There is one advantage of the ugly unassuming looks of this axe, some times in PVP you do not always want a big flashy weapon. I remember seeing people in WSG forget about the flag just so they try and kill a rogue with a Thunderfury. Yes, it is by far the worst looking epic in the game, but I think of of it as camo in BGs.

I can definetly see this becoming a very sot after Hunter weapon. Its stats suit a hunters skills and needs the best, considering the DPS and extra stats boosting the hunters long distance bow and arrow shots.

I guess it can be used my a warrior too, but surely the hunters must get preference on this type of a weapon.
