Currently tied for the highest stamina neck in the game - obviously very good for tanking. Great for any tank, this one would be of particular interest to druid tanks, since none of the stat budget is wasted on stats the druid can't use (block, parry, etc).

Considering where this drops from, it's a very poor neck.

Necklace of the Juggernaut (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29386), for example, which has 1.6% avoidance for a warrior (0.55% dodge from 18 agility and 1.05% combined avoidance from 21 defense rating) and also the small armour boost of 36 is extremely comparable to this neck. You could argue it's better - it certainly beats out this neck on mitigation, only at the cost of 12 stamina and 15 hit rating.

Direct quick comparison for warriors:

Seems to me putting defense on a PvP item or putting +hit on a tanking item don't mesh very well.

One thing I like personally about this necklace is that its on an item slot that you really dont find an upgrade to for quite a while, as is Aldori Legacy Defender. Reason why this is good is because you have that solid 2% chance to hit with you for a long time.

I'm a feral druid tanking the ends of SSC and the start of TK right now, and I'd pick this up when it drops for us. There aren't a lot of items out there with defense on them for ferals once you get past the Clefthoof set, so the items that you can get with high defense are def. worth picking up.

The same goes for hit rating, there isn't a lot of stuff with +hit for tanks.

One might argue a necklace like this should get warrior prio, but in my opinion the high stamina (for druids, even higher stamina) negates that arguement since druids thrive on stam. Warrior gets more out of the def, druid gets more out of the stam. So they get an equal value out of the item in total.

I currently have the karazhan tanking necklace (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28516) but losing some dodge does not weigh up to the +hit, extra stam and extra defense because of the rarity of those stats on higher tier sets. Those sets do holster more agi tho, so you will not lose dodge while upgrading.

My point, this is just as much a druid neck as it is a warrior's imo. Personally, I will go for it.

For a protection paladin, this is actually better then Brooch of deftness from heroic badges.

it has:
- 3 stamina
- 4 hit
- 22 expertise
+ 24 defense rating

Protection paladins hardly have any benefit from expertise. (we only have auto-attack that can be parried/blocked) So i prefer this one for the extra +defense.

I wasn't particularly impressed with this item and wouldn't spend the DKP to trade the dodge from the Barbed Choker of Discipline for some hit, defense and 6 stamina.

From a warrior's perspective, I'd suggest buying Brooch of Deftness with badges from heroics if you're interested in hit rating and more stamina, since you'll also get the rare expertise stat.

Another option is to save up for the Kael'thas tanking neck from the Verdant Sphere quest: The Darkener's Grasp.

Most new epic items with I level of 115 will be dropping out of Serpentshrine cavern. Off which boss? Couldn't tell ya.

However, decreasing your chance to miss - well, decreases your chance to miss - so there is a slightly lower chance your attack will not go through - and a slightly lower chance you'll get a sudden streak. Getting your hit to the "no more missing" minimum is always helpful - and not always easy to do with tank-gear.

I've noticed the same thing.....very little +def gear has +hit on it.

I'm level 70, starting Kara, and not in bad tanking gear.....guess how much +hit I have?

That's just wrong. I know a lot of tanks prolly have more than that, but I doubt by much. Why do you think Blizz is keeping our +hit so low? I'm SERIOUSLY tired of missing sunders. Please put up some links to epic +def (or dodge/parry) gear that has +hit on it if you read this post.

Mate if all you care about is landing sunders, you should be shot.
If you are a tank, and have points all the way down the prot tree... sunder is the WORST agro gainer, even a shield BASH (silence) gives equal agro to sunder. Sunder is only used to slightly increase melee dmg. A shield slam does 3-4x more agro than 1 sunder, and if it crits then your in for an easy time tanking. Blizz serz need to buff sunders, all agro abils scale with an increase in gear..... all except %^&*ty old sunder.
While i understand that sunder leads to more melee dps, it is the worst way possible to gain initial agro, if all u do is spam sunder to tank, your in for a hell of a time tanking, especially in high end raids.

Hit gems, imo

If you can't hit the mob, you are worthless. Doesn't matter how much stamina or avoidance you have. If you can't hold aggro, you lose. I had 12 hit rating at once point before I re-evaluated my stats and gear. After some regemming and a lucky drop of Aldori Legacy Defender, my hit rating was up to 48 one week later.

I still don't have this neck piece or Mallet of the Tides. But once I do, my threat generation will be amazing.
